Ding Jing then instructed Liu Yujie to tarnish Lu Yan's reputation as soon as possible. Liu Yujie subtly suggested that targeting Lu Yan might not be a good idea. Sensing that Liu Yujie was no longer on her side, Ding Jing angrily humiliated her by making her clean her shoes.
Yu Zheng visited the criminal investigation team to help Jiang Chengyi analyze the case. Jiang Chengyi believed that the motives for Deng Man’s and Wang Qianqian’s deaths were different, indicating that the killer was not the same person. He reasoned that if Ding Jing wanted to harm Lu Yan, she had the financial means to hire a professional killer with strong counter-surveillance skills. This suggested that someone besides Ding Jing might also be targeting Lu Yan.
Jiang Chengyi suspected that this mastermind's relationship with Ding Jing was worth investigating. As they were discussing the case, Qin Yue reported receiving a tip that a female tenant near West Mountain resembled the suspect in Wang Qianqian’s murder. " After Ding Jing walked toward the exhibition area, Tang Jie signaled Da Zhong to adjust some data in the surveillance room. After the signing ceremony, a promotional video was about to be shown on the big screen. However, instead of the intended video, footage of Ding Jing bullying Liu Yujie was played. Ding Jing urgently demanded that the video be stopped, but the big screen continued playing.
It then broadcasted a recording of Ding Jing cursing Lu Yan in an underground parking lot. The audience was shocked and began questioning Ding Jing's character. Lu Yan emerged from the surveillance room and confronted Ding Jing, demanding she confess to what she had done to Deng Man. Ding Jing attempted to push Lu Yan, but Lu Yan preemptively shoved Ding Jing instead.
Just as Ding Jing steadied herself, Tang Jie slapped her, giving them both a sense of justice for Deng Man. Yu Baifeng immediately announced his intention to terminate his contract with Ding Jing, citing her breach of contract, which freed him from any liability. That evening, a woman resembling Deng Man was apprehended near her rented apartment by the police, who had been lying in wait.
Upon interrogation, she revealed her name as Zhou Fang and admitted to being a secondhand dealer involved in smuggling artifacts. Although her activities were unrelated to the current case, the police contributed to solving a matter for another department. Qin Yue reminded his colleagues to handle future tips with more caution. As Tang Jie and Lu Yan left the hotel, they both felt vindicated but began to question another matter.
They speculated that even though Deng Man was gentle, she wouldn’t have kneeled to Ding Jing unless Ding Jing had some leverage over her. Ding Jing, frustrated, decided to move out of her family home. Her father scolded her for her arrogant behavior, which had caused such a scandal and led many partners to sever contracts with him. Ding Jing retorted that her father had never cared for her and only prioritized business.
Driving away from home, Ding Jing replayed in her mind how Lu Yan and Tang Jie had exposed her in public, fueling her anger. She received a call from an unknown man and told him they both shared responsibility for the events of the past. She warned him that if anything happened to her, he wouldn’t escape unscathed. After hanging up, she vowed to destroy Lu Yan.
The next day, Liu Yujie went to the police station to hand over the recordings of her conversations with Ding Jing. She urged Jiang Chengyi to protect Lu Yan, stating that based on her understanding of Ding Jing, she wouldn’t let this matter rest. Lu Yan spent the night at Tang Jie’s place, and the next morning, her phone ran out of battery. Tang Jie left early for work, leaving Lu Yan alone.
That day marked the anniversary of Deng Man's death. Lu Yan decided to visit Deng Man’s grave in the countryside by taking the subway. Jiang Chengyi called Lu Yan, but her phone was off, so he called Tang Jie. After learning the route, Jiang Chengyi immediately drove to the subway station. Lu Yan was indeed being followed by Ding Jing. However, another woman was also tailing Ding Jing.
As the subway train approached, Ding Jing quietly positioned herself behind Lu Yan. Jiang Chengyi arrived just in time and shouted Lu Yan's name from the stairwell. The moment Lu Yan turned around, Ding Jing pushed her onto the subway tracks. Jiang Chengyi jumped down immediately and carried Lu Yan back onto the platform.
