Lin Xiaoman was thrilled, holding Lu Yan and Wen Peng’s hands, creating a harmonious and joyful scene. After Lin Xiaoman returned home, Wen Peng invited Lu Yan to dinner. However, Lu Yan explained that Jiang Chengyi would soon pick her up. Wen Peng's demeanor immediately changed.
He questioned why Lu Yan always treated him like a senior but acted more natural with Jiang Chengyi, even though both of them were one year her senior. Unable to explain, Lu Yan simply stated that she had reconciled with Jiang Chengyi. After leaving the stadium, Wen Peng’s expression turned gloomy. Qin Yue found the hiding spot of Li Ruonan but only discovered a power bank and some insignificant daily items. The phone was clearly taken by someone.
After reporting this to Jiang Chengyi, Jiang Chengyi ordered the withdrawal of all officers. Jiang Chengyi and Lu Yan returned to the rental house, where Lu Yan recounted the day’s events. She explained how Wen Peng, claiming to be too busy, had asked her to take Lin Xiaoman skating. However, Wen Peng suddenly appeared at the rink, clearly intending to join them. Later, he made vague remarks hinting at his feelings.
When Jiang Chengyi asked about Lu Yan’s response, she said she walked away without looking back. Back at his office, Wen Peng fumed over Lu Yan's statement about reconciling with Jiang Chengyi. In anger, he smashed the glass cup in his hand. Shortly after, Yu Zheng visited the company, mentioning that Yu Baifeng’s celebrity status and irregular attendance had caused dissatisfaction among some students. Yu Zheng suggested stopping the lessons.
However, she also noted that Yu Baifeng had shown significant improvement, even solving a particularly complex logical question. Wen Peng immediately claimed credit, saying he had encountered the same question during a college course on criminal psychology. Yu Zheng did not press further. Zhong Wenxuan and Yuan Dalu came to Wen Peng’s company to finalize their collaboration. The assistant had already prepared the contract.
After glancing at it, Yuan Dalu noted that filming was scheduled to start next month, feeling the timeline was tight. Wen Peng explained that the film’s release date was already set, so filming must be completed on schedule. Both Zhong Wenxuan and Yuan Dalu agreed and signed the contract. Liu Hao, recently discharged, returned to the Criminal Investigation Team. Jiang Chengyi suggested celebrating with a team dinner.
During the event, Yu Zheng asked Jiang Chengyi if he knew much about Wen Peng, noting that Wen Peng’s meticulous thinking made it hard for others to read his mind. Jiang Chengyi revealed that Wen Peng had suffered abuse from his father as a child, which might have left deep psychological scars. However, he acknowledged that Wen Peng was connected to Deng Man, Wang Qianqian, and Ding Jing and wanted to talk to him face-to-face.
Yu Zheng felt that Jiang Chengyi’s direct approach would put Wen Peng on guard and suggested she continue engaging with Wen Peng through Yu Baifeng. On the day of Yu Baifeng’s discharge, his assistant informed him that Wen Peng wanted him to report back to the company first. However, eager to meet Yu Zheng, Yu Baifeng decided to take a half-day off without permission. He candidly told Yu Zheng that the role of the serial killer had already been cast.
Yu Zheng responded that she had known this all along and also knew that Yu Baifeng liked her. However, she stated they were not compatible and would not work out. Despite feeling like a child in front of Yu Zheng, Yu Baifeng couldn’t help but like her. In the end, he invited her to dinner. During dinner, paparazzi secretly took photos of them. That evening, Wen Peng received news that the photos of Yu Baifeng had already spread online.
He immediately ordered the PR department to work overtime to intercept all the photos. While Lu Yan was at work, Liu Yujie suddenly came to the hospital and revealed that she planned to move with her parents to another city. She thanked Lu Yan for saving her life and shared some details about Deng Man. She recalled that during university, Ding Jing often ordered Deng Man to go to the gym to watch Jiang Chengyi play basketball.
She even instructed Deng Man to tell Lu Yan to give Jiang Chengyi up to her. Deng Man, intimidated, always complied. When asked why she obeyed, Deng Man revealed that Ding Jing held a compromising video of her. After Deng Man’s suicide, Ding Jing became terrified and immediately went abroad. Liu Hao expanded the investigation into Ding Jing’s phone records and found frequent contact with Zhou Zhicheng, a coach at Ninghai University.
After work, Lu Yan relayed what she had just learned to Jiang Chengyi. Meanwhile, Wen Peng managed to suppress the news about Yu Baifeng. Yu Baifeng quickly returned to the company to apologize to Wen Peng, but Wen Peng didn’t reprimand him harshly. He only instructed Yu Baifeng not to contact Yu Zheng again for the time being. Wen Peng confiscated Yu Baifeng’s phone and ordered the assistant to keep a close watch on him.
