Tang Jie went to the hospital for a prenatal checkup, accompanied by Lu Yan. After completing all the tests, Lu Yan asked Zhong Wenxuan to handle the payment. Zhong Wenxuan had just hung up a phone call and seemed distracted. It took Tang Jie several calls to get his attention. After he left to pay, Tang Jie confided in Lu Yan that Zhong Wenxuan had been acting strange lately, frequently going out to meet friends and taking constant phone calls.
She suspected he might be having an affair. Lu Yan advised her not to overthink. Yu Zheng called Jiang Chengyi to inform him about being followed by Yu Baifeng. Jiang Chengyi asked if she wanted the local police to intervene and detain him. However, Yu Zheng felt it wasn’t necessary, suggesting that if Yu Baifeng was serving as Wen Peng’s informant, they could use the opportunity to uncover Wen Peng’s plans. Jiang Chengyi reminded her to stay safe.
At the hospital payment counter, Tang Jie overheard Zhong Wenxuan on another phone call, mentioning the low-price liquidation of assets. Zhong Wenxuan even instructed Yuan Dalu to delete their call records to avoid worrying Tang Jie. When he turned around, he was startled to see Tang Jie standing nearby. Back at home, Zhong Wenxuan revealed everything to Tang Jie, explaining that he was preparing to sell the company and lay off employees.
Tang Jie believed the long-term employees who had supported him since the start of his business didn’t deserve such treatment. She took out the savings from her dowry to help Zhong Wenxuan through the crisis. Despite the help, the financial shortfall was still significant. Tang Jie decided to sell their house. Lu Yan, worried about Tang Jie’s pregnancy, expressed concern about where she would live. Tang Jie assured her that she could stay at her mother’s house for a while.
Her mother had been urging her to move back home since she got pregnant, so it would work out perfectly. Moved by the situation, Lu Yan transferred 100,000 yuan from her savings to Tang Jie to help. Yu Zheng visited the Chengzhou criminal police team to verify that the unclaimed corpse was not Yan Mei. She then inquired about Wang Yifan, a temporary worker at the funeral home.
The liaison officer mentioned that Wang Yifan was idle and even had a criminal record. However, due to his father’s former position as a formal employee at the funeral home, Wang Yifan was reluctantly given the job. He Yan went to the hospital again to find Lu Yan, asking her to deliver a letter to Wen Peng. Feeling awkward but unable to refuse, Lu Yan agreed. After He Yan left, Lu Yan called Jiang Chengyi to explain the situation.
Jiang Chengyi told her to give the letter to him so he could deliver it personally to Wen Peng. Jiang Chengyi handed the letter to Wen Peng, who tore it up on the spot. Jiang Chengyi then pleaded with Wen Peng to stop targeting Zhong Wenxuan. Wen Peng, however, provocatively replied that as long as Jiang Chengyi refused to leave Lu Yan, everyone around him would suffer.
Jiang Chengyi, angered by Wen Peng’s blatant provocation but unable to refute him, decided to wait until there was concrete evidence to take action. Yu Zheng and Liu Hao followed Wang Yifan to a pool hall. Liu Hao went inside, hoping to obtain a cigarette butt from Wang Yifan, while Yu Zheng waited outside. Unbeknownst to her, Yu Baifeng was also following her. Wang Yifan didn’t stay long at the pool hall.
When Yu Zheng saw him leave, she quietly followed him. Yu Baifeng, thinking this was his chance for revenge, followed Yu Zheng. Suddenly, Wang Yifan emerged from an alley and strangled Yu Zheng from behind. Terrified, Yu Baifeng hid in the shadows. Using his strength, Wang Yifan knocked Yu Zheng unconscious, locked her in a car, and turned on the gas to cause her to die from oxygen deprivation.
Seeing this, Yu Baifeng approached the car, intending to open the door. However, Wang Yifan overpowered him, seized the electric baton he was holding, and knocked him out as well. Meanwhile, Liu Hao exited the pool hall but was immediately accosted by two thugs. After a brief fight, Liu Hao managed to injure them. The police arrived quickly, but Liu Hao rushed to Yu Baifeng’s side, opened the car door, and rescued Yu Zheng, taking her to the hospital.
While lying in the ambulance, Yu Zheng gradually regained consciousness. Yu Baifeng sat beside her, showing genuine concern. He admitted that he initially intended to take revenge but couldn’t bear to see a stranger bullying her. What hurt him the most was overhearing Wang Yifan call Wen Peng after using the electric baton on him. Wen Peng had ordered Wang Yifan to get rid of him, allowing Yu Baifeng to see Wen Peng’s true colors.
Liu Hao reported the incident to Jiang Chengyi, who immediately instructed Qin Yue to investigate all of Wang Yifan’s recent call records.
