Ruan Meiying was deceived by a fraudulent agency when she went abroad. They took all her money, leaving her with nothing. She now works at a bar in Southeast Asia. Mu Xiao tracked her down and informed Ning Yue of her whereabouts. Ning Yue got in touch with Ruan Meiying, urging her to return and turn herself in.

Ning Yue told her that her current miserable life was worse than before and that if she chose to return, she and Mu Xiao would help her with her legal case, giving her a chance for a better future. After listening to Ning Yue, Ruan Meiying decided to return to the country and surrender herself to the authorities. Hu Cheng was granted early parole for good behavior.

No one came to pick him up from prison, but a fellow inmate who was also being released offered him a ride. The man mistakenly assumed that Tian Qiuzi was Hu Cheng’s wife because she had visited him often, but Hu Cheng clarified that she wasn’t. Standing once again in front of Yaofeng Technology’s building, Hu Cheng was spotted by his former assistant, Xiao Ma. Surprised, Hu Cheng asked why Xiao Ma was still at the company.

Xiao Ma explained that Ning Yue had kept most of the old employees and ensured they were taken care of during the company’s most challenging times. Ning Yue, watching from upstairs, came down and locked eyes with Hu Cheng. She initially intended to have a proper conversation with him, but after a few words, Ning Yue realized Hu Cheng hadn’t changed. Frustrated, she told him to get his life together before contacting her again.

After calming down, Hu Cheng called Ning Yue to apologize. Moved by his sincerity, Ning Yue decided to send him some money to help him get back on his feet, telling him to contact her once he was settled. With nowhere else to go, Hu Cheng sought out Tian Qiuzi.

It was then he learned that Tian Qiuzi had been making secret moves and was planning to present him with a "grand gift" at the upcoming shareholders’ meeting to help him make a triumphant return to Yaofeng Technology. Tian Qiuzi brought Hu Cheng to meet Lao Song, the brother-in-law of Jiang, Yaofeng’s largest shareholder. To Hu Cheng’s surprise, Lao Song was someone he had fired years ago.

Feeling there was no need for further discussion, Hu Cheng turned to leave, but Tian Qiuzi stopped him. She didn’t care about the past and was willing to endure anything to achieve her goals. She urged Hu Cheng to be patient. It turned out Hu Cheng and Lao Song were old classmates. Lao Song wasn’t meeting him to settle scores but to encourage him to let go of fame and fortune at their age.

Seeing Lao Song in a wheelchair, Hu Cheng felt a pang of guilt. Lao Song advised him not to be too harsh on others or himself. Lao Song’s words reminded Hu Cheng of what Zhou Wei had once told him. Hu Cheng wanted to visit Yaofeng Technology again, but Tian Qiuzi stopped him outside the building, not wanting him to return in such a dejected state. As they were talking, Ning Yue came out of the building.

Tian Qiuzi deliberately grabbed Hu Cheng’s arm and said she would support him. Ning Yue glanced at them but said nothing. Tian Qiuzi later informed Hu Cheng that the shareholders’ meeting next Monday would be his perfect opportunity to return to Yaofeng Technology. It was only then Hu Cheng realized her plan was to replace Ning Yue. However, by now, Hu Cheng had grown tired of schemes and power struggles. After all, he still had feelings for Ning Yue.
