Zhu Guanwen said that he had always known that Mayor Dou was involved in shady business, but he never expected them to deal with something as morally reprehensible as opium. Zhu Guanwen mentioned that his mother had a strong aversion to opium, and even though there wasn't much circulating in the town, it was likely just a transit point. He warned Lin Bao'er not to act recklessly, as this matter might be connected to his father, and they couldn't afford to act impulsively.
Zhu Guanwen directly found the authorities and exposed the situation to them. Soon, the officials arrived at the dock for inspection. Lin Bao'er intentionally tried to hinder the inspection, but soon a new inspector and Zhu Guanwen also arrived. Mayor Dou remained calm and even allowed them to open and inspect the goods freely. However, when Zhu Guanwen's subordinates opened the containers, they indeed found canned goods, indicating that someone had swapped the opium.
Dou Lili taunted Lin Bao'er while Mayor Dou claimed that the goods were meant for transfer to Shanghai. Dou Lili retaliated, even grabbing Lin Bao'er's clothes. Zhu Guanwen immediately shielded Lin Bao'er behind him. Although Mayor Dou portrayed himself as a good person, behind the scenes, he accused Lin Bao'er of bewitching Zhu Guanwen. Subsequently, the reporters left, and Zhu Guanwen led Lin Bao'er away.
Upon returning, Zhu Guanwen apologized to Lin Bao'er, stating that he wasn't prepared. However, Lin Bao'er didn't blame Zhu Guanwen and remarked that Mayor Dou was too cunning, and they shouldn't have acted impulsively. Zhu Guanwen never thought that what he did was unnecessary and emphasized that Lin Bao'er was everything to him. He assured Lin Bao'er that she wasn't alone in this fight, as he was with her.
Lin Bao'er suspected that someone had informed Mayor Dou in advance and witnessed Dou Lili and a reporter discussing the situation.
