Zhu Guanwen said that he had always known that Mayor Dou was involved in shady business, but he never expected that they would dare to get involved with something as despicable as opium. Zhu Guanwen mentioned that his mother used to detest opium the most. Although there wasn't much opium circulating in the town, it was highly likely that this place was just a transit point. Zhu Guanwen advised Lin Bao'er not to act recklessly, as this matter might implicate her father. Therefore, he emphasized the importance of not taking hasty actions.
Zhu Guanwen, on the other hand, directly contacted the authorities and disclosed the situation to them. Soon, the authorities arrived at the dock and requested an inspection. Lin Bao'er intentionally tried to prevent them from inspecting. The new inspector and Zhu Guanwen also arrived. Mayor Dou appeared calm and even allowed them to open and check the cargo. When Zhu Guanwen's men opened it, it turned out to be canned goods, indicating that someone had switched the opium. Dou Lili taunted Lin Bao'er intentionally, and Mayor Dou claimed that this batch of goods was meant for transportation to Shanghai. Dou Lili started to shift the blame onto Lin Bao'er and even pulled her clothes. Zhu Guanwen immediately shielded Lin Bao'er from them. Mayor Dou pretended to be a good person but accused Lin Bao'er of bewitching Zhu Guanwen behind the scenes.
Afterward, the reporters all left, and Zhu Guanwen led Lin Bao'er away. When they got back, Zhu Guanwen apologized to Lin Bao'er, saying that he wasn't prepared enough. However, Lin Bao'er didn't blame him and noted that Mayor Dou was too cunning, and they shouldn't have acted so impulsively. Zhu Guanwen had never thought that what he did was unnecessary and even said that Lin Bao'er was everything to him. Zhu Guanwen also told Lin Bao'er that she wasn't fighting alone; he was with her. Lin Bao'er suspected that someone had informed Mayor Dou in advance and saw a scene involving Dou Lili and a reporter.
