Miss Mystery Episode 18 Recap
> Miss Mystery Recap
In the evening, Dou Lili took the opportunity to seek out Mr. Zhu's second aunt, who was now heavily dependent on opium. Dou Lili wanted her to reveal the secret she was after, and eventually, she learned from the second aunt that Mr. Zhu's main source of income was human trafficking. Mayor Dou had already uncovered Mr. Zhu's secret, giving him leverage for negotiation. He explained that Mr. Zhu was the mastermind of past events, and now he aimed to gradually retire the Zhu family and take over the business. Mr. Zhu sighed and mentioned that he was getting old, leaving the future in Mayor Dou's hands.
Mayor Dou then went to the Ciyu Orphanage, where journalists quickly gathered to inquire why he held the orphanage in such high regard. He diplomatically stated it was for the children's welfare.
On the other side, Mr. Zhu killed his second aunt because she had revealed the truth. Now, he was at a disadvantage.
Mayor Dou privately called Lin Bao'er and handed her a ticket to return to Southeast Asia. Initially, Lin Bao'er resisted the idea, but Mayor Dou explained that it was necessary to avoid offending the Lin family and to ensure Zhu Guanwen's safety. Before leaving, Lin Bao'er and Zhu Guanwen shared a heartfelt moment. She recalled the past and the pivotal role Zhu Guanwen played in her life. The next day, Zhu Guanwen awoke to find Lin Bao'er gone, with only the engagement ring he had given her left behind.
Zhu Guanwen admitted that he had always known that Mayor Dou was involved in illicit activities but never imagined that he would be dealing with opium, a substance his mother had despised. He cautioned Lin Bao'er not to act recklessly, as this situation could implicate his father. However, he took matters into his own hands and exposed the situation to the authorities. The inspectors arrived at the dock, and despite Lin Bao'er's attempt to hinder them, a new detective and Zhu Guanwen were soon on the scene. Mayor Dou remained composed and even encouraged them to inspect the goods. When the containers were opened, it turned out to be canned goods, indicating that someone had switched the opium with these items.
Dou Lili taunted Lin Bao'er, and Mayor Dou claimed that the shipment was intended for Shanghai. However, reporters left, and Zhu Guanwen escorted Lin Bao'er away. Back at their base, Zhu Guanwen apologized to Lin Bao'er for not being better prepared. Lin Bao'er didn't blame him and acknowledged Mayor Dou's cunning. Zhu Guanwen emphasized that everything he did was for Lin Bao'er and assured her that they were in this together. Lin Bao'er suspected someone had tipped off Mayor Dou and witnessed a scene involving Dou Lili and a reporter.
