In the past, when Xue Tong's father was still the mayor, he was deeply beloved by the people but was eventually killed. Zhu Guanwen learned that Lin Bao'er had left and searched everywhere but couldn't find a trace of her. He believed that as long as she was in the town, she would eventually reappear.
Zhu Guanwen revealed that he had known about Mayor Dou's involvement in shady dealings but never expected they would be dealing with such a wicked substance as opium. He mentioned that his mother had a strong aversion to opium. While opium was not widely circulated in the town, it could be a transit point for such illegal activities. He advised Lin Bao'er not to act recklessly, as this matter could implicate his father. Zhu Guanwen directly approached the inspectors, revealing the situation to them. They quickly arrived at the docks, and although Lin Bao'er tried to hinder their inspection, a new detective and Zhu Guanwen joined in. Mayor Dou remained composed and even encouraged them to open the containers. However, when they were opened, it was revealed that the opium had been swapped with canned goods. Dou Lili taunted Lin Bao'er, and Mayor Dou claimed the shipment was headed for Shanghai. He even accused Lin Bao'er of influencing Zhu Guanwen. Reporters left, and Zhu Guanwen escorted Lin Bao'er away. Back at their base, Zhu Guanwen apologized for being unprepared, but Lin Bao'er didn't blame him. She acknowledged that Mayor Dou was cunning and that they shouldn't have acted impulsively. Zhu Guanwen emphasized that Lin Bao'er meant everything to him and assured her that they were in this together. Lin Bao'er suspected that someone had tipped off Mayor Dou and witnessed a scene involving Dou Lili and a reporter.
Today was the day Mayor Dou was giving a speech and preparing for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. He called his daughter, Dou Lili, to join him on stage. However, when the curtain was drawn back, it revealed contracts related to opium and scenes of Mayor Dou's clandestine dealings. Everyone was shocked, and they began to shout curses at Mayor Dou. In fact, Lin Bao'er had known about Mayor Dou and Dou Lili's dirty deeds and aimed to deliver a severe blow to them.
Lin Bao'er sought the help of reporters to gather evidence of Mayor Dou's opium smuggling. Even though Dou Lili saw Lin Bao'er, she could only pass by in embarrassment, as she had no opportunity to explain this time. Sitting in the front row, Zhu Guanwen spotted Lin Bao'er, and after the event, he gave her a big hug. Lin Bao'er hadn't informed anyone about her plan, and she explained to Zhu Guanwen that she had kept it a secret to protect him from harm.
Zhu Guanwen held Dou Lili's hand and left. Lin Bao'er had prepared this plan a week ago. When she returned, she informed Zhu Guanwen about it. He sometimes worried about her, as she undertook everything by herself. While there were risks involved, the final outcome was perfect.
