In the past, when Xue Tong's father was still the mayor, the townsfolk deeply respected and loved him, but he was killed. Zhu Guanwen learned that Lin Bao'er had left and searched everywhere but couldn't find a trace of her. He believed that as long as Lin Bao'er was in the town, she would definitely show up. A journalist from a magazine visited Mayor Dou, intending to document his achievements for the county records. At that moment, an assistant informed Mayor Dou that Mayor Dou and Dou Lili were on their way. Mayor Dou locked his son in a room. Dou Lili claimed to have investigated and found that Lin Bao'er wasn't the Lin family's daughter. She urged Mayor Dou to call Lin Bao'er and questioned her about her true identity. Dou Lili even exposed the scars on Lin Bao'er's shoulder and prepared to interrogate her with a baton. Feeling the immense pressure and fearing for her life, Lin Bao'er thought that she would die if she showed any vulnerability. Suddenly, a man caught Lin Bao'er as she was about to fall, and it turned out to be her brother.
Today was the day Mayor Dou was delivering a speech and preparing for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. He called his daughter Dou Lili to join him on stage. However, when the curtain was drawn back, it revealed contracts related to opium and scenes of Mayor Dou's clandestine dealings. Everyone was stunned, and they began to shout curses at Mayor Dou. In fact, Lin Bao'er had known about Mayor Dou and Dou Lili's dirty deeds and aimed to deliver a severe blow to them.
Lin Bao'er asked the journalists for help, primarily to gather evidence of Mayor Dou's opium smuggling.
