Miss Mystery Episode 23 Recap
> Miss Mystery Recap
Zhu Guanwen's subordinate quickly reported to Zhu Guanwen and Lin Bao'er that Mr. Zhu had fallen asleep. Later, Lin Bao'er and Zhu Guanwen returned to the mansion. Someone with an oil lamp entered the room. Lin Bao'er saw the old clock and opened it with the password left by her father, discovering that it contained information about Mr. Zhu's human trafficking activities. Surprisingly, Mr. Zhu's father was not Mr. Zhu but the one who had killed the only son of a family surnamed Zhou. Mr. Zhu had used the ill-gotten gains to expand his power. Just at that moment, the lamp suddenly lit up, and Mr. Zhu arrived, confirming that Xue Tong was the one who had found the secret.
Mr. Zhu accused Lin Bao'er of influencing his son, Zhu Guanwen. Zhu Guanwen presented the secret documents and questioned his father, suggesting that he had killed Zhu Guanwen's mother, making it look like an accident. Mr. Zhu still believed that Zhu Guanwen was ungrateful, and he sent men to tie up Lin Bao'er and Zhu Guanwen. Lin Bao'er seized the opportunity to quietly cut the ropes with a knife. Zhu Guanwen criticized his father for his human trafficking activities, saying that he didn't even deserve to be called a human. Mr. Zhu arrogantly claimed that he could control the town with his wealth and explained that he had killed Lin Bao'er's father because he knew too much. Mr. Zhu told them that in this world, only the strongest survived. He revealed that Zhu Guanwen's mother was the woman he loved the most, so Zhu Guanwen had to be his son. Lin Bao'er compared Mr. Zhu to a homeless child, and Mr. Zhu aimed a gun at her.
In the evening, Dou Lili went to see Mr. Zhu's second aunt, aiming to make her reveal the secret information that Dou Lili wanted to know. The second aunt had been tormented by opium and was helpless. From the second aunt, Dou Lili learned that Mr. Zhu's main source of income was human trafficking. Mayor Dou had already uncovered Mr. Zhu's secret, giving him leverage to negotiate. Mayor Dou explained that Mr. Zhu had been the mastermind behind the events from the past, and now he wanted the Zhu family to gradually withdraw from the business and hand it over to him. Mr. Zhu, who felt defeated, finally killed the second aunt because she had revealed the truth, putting him at a disadvantage.
Mayor Dou privately spoke to Lin Bao'er and handed her a boat ticket back to the Nanyang islands. Initially, Lin Bao'er refused to leave, but Mayor Dou explained that if she wanted to save Zhu Guanwen's life, she had to go. Before leaving, Lin Bao'er spent time with Zhu Guanwen, and he was her beacon of hope. Lin Bao'er talked about how Zhu Guanwen had saved her and how she wouldn't let anyone harm him. The next morning, Zhu Guanwen woke up to find Lin Bao'er gone, with only the wedding ring he had given her left on the table. Zhu Guanwen said he had known that Mayor Dou was involved in shady business, but he couldn't believe they were trafficking opium, something so morally reprehensible. Zhu Guanwen explained that Lin Bao'er's mother had despised opium, so this revelation was even more shocking. He told Lin Bao'er not to act recklessly, as this matter could lead to the involvement of his father. Then, he went to a reporter who had investigated the case and disclosed the information. The reporters went to the docks to check the cargo, but Lin Bao'er deliberately obstructed them. A new inspector and Zhu Guanwen arrived. Mayor Dou appeared calm and allowed them to open the cargo. Upon inspection, the cargo indeed contained canned goods, indicating that someone had swapped the opium. Dou Lili mocked Lin Bao'er, and Mayor Dou pretended to be a good person but secretly claimed that Lin Bao'er had bewitched Zhu Guanwen. Later, the reporters left, and Zhu Guanwen left with Lin Bao'er. Back at their place, Zhu Guanwen apologized to Lin Bao'er for being unprepared. Lin Bao'er didn't blame him and said that Mayor Dou was cunning, and they should have been less impulsive. Zhu Guanwen had never considered his actions unnecessary and told Lin Bao'er that she was his everything. He also told her that they weren't fighting alone, as he was with her.
Lin Bao'er suspected that someone had tipped off Mayor Dou. She witnessed a scene with Dou Lili and a reporter discussing something.
