Although Chen Jiaping realized that Luo Guanqun was deceiving him, he had no intention of exposing him. It appeared that the formula had already fallen into Zhang Shuyun's hands. Once Luo Guanqun and Zhang Shuyun reunited, he would have no chance to obtain the formula again. So he came up with a plan, claiming that he saw two people running ahead, fearing they might be Japanese agents. Chen Jiaping went ahead to scout the situation. However, when he arrived at the location, he found that Da Mashao had been shot in the head and killed. It seemed that the Japanese had already taken the formula ahead of him, and he was too late.

Chen Jiaping covered Da Mashao's body with a haystack and returned to meet Luo Guanqun. He didn't reveal the truth but lied, saying that he had made a mistake. Chen Jiaping then dropped off Luo Guanqun, hoping he would take care of himself.

Luo Guanqun, unaware that the Japanese and Zhang Shuyun were waiting for him, knocked on the door and walked into a trap. He knelt before Naoshita, surrounded by Japanese with guns pointed at him. Zhang Shuyun revealed that she had previously seen Luo Guanqun with another woman, which prompted her to secretly follow him. She stumbled upon Luo Guanqun placing the precious colored phoenix pen in the telephone booth on Sanguantang Road. At the time, she didn't know what it was, but it wasn't until she overheard the conversation between Chen Jiaping and Luo Guanqun the previous night that she understood what the object meant to the Japanese. So, while Da Mashao was taking her to this location, she got off the car and called Naoshita.

Luo Guanqun's meticulous plan was ultimately foiled by a woman, and his face was filled with despair.

As Chen Jiaping met up with Zuo Shuangtao, they passed by the Rain Ink Calligraphy and Painting Store, which reminded Chen Jiaping of Lu Yousheng. Lu Yousheng had died at the hands of Luo Guanqun. Chen Jiaping didn't eliminate Luo Guanqun to avoid arousing the Japanese's suspicions, but in Luo Guanqun's hands, his fate was likely to be a brutal one.

Chen Jiaping went to meet with Zuo Shuangtao and remembered his encounter with Lu Yousheng as he passed by the Rain Ink Calligraphy and Painting Store. Lu Yousheng had died at the hands of Luo Guanqun. Chen Jiaping didn't eliminate Luo Guanqun to avoid arousing the Japanese's suspicions, but in Luo Guanqun's hands, his fate would likely be gruesome.

Zhang Shuyun's ambition didn't stop there. She used this situation to climb up to the powerful Naoshita and gained control over Luo Guanqun's life and death. She framed Zhao An and falsely accused him of being the one who buried Luo Guanqun alive in the broken temple. Naoshita ordered Luo Guanqun to dig the soil, but for some reason, Zhang Shuyun spared his life. Zuo Shuangtao and Chen Jiaping, temporarily in hiding, had no idea that after dealing with Zhao An and Luo Guanqun, there was a new threat in the form of Qian Chengyi. Chen Jiaping had been aware that Qian Chengyi had been monitoring them.

Qian Chengyi volunteered to be Naoshita's interpreter, and Naoshita agreed to let him continue his investigation into the Plum Blossom Red Peach in the business while trying to recover the side currency copper plate. Hearing this, Naoshita found it unexpected.

Lu Fangfang saw that Shan Xia Wufu had come to the Kempeitai headquarters, followed by Naoshita and Qian Chengyi. She pretended to have left a task unfinished and asked Qing Shanjun for the keys to her office. Naoshita and Shan Xia Wufu discussed matters inside, while Qian Chengyi waited outside. He thought Lu Fangfang was acting suspiciously.

Lu Fangfang eavesdropped on the conversation between Shan Xia Wufu and Naoshita from the Three-Number Document Library, but Qian Chengyi heard some noise from inside. He went to tell Qing Shanjun that he had overheard someone tearing up documents. Qing Shanjun rushed to open the door, and Lu Fangfang quickly restored the documents and the cabinet to their original state, preventing Qian Chengyi from finding any evidence.

To turn Zuo Shuangtao and Chen Jiaping against each other, Zuo Shuangtao was informed by the Military Statistics Bureau that Liu Wuchang had died and that Chen Jiaping had killed him. Seeing Liu Wuchang's lifeless body, Zuo Shuangtao covered her mouth and wept. After analyzing the situation, Qian Chengyi suspected that the Bund Park was a regular meeting place. Lu Fangfang had a monthly pass for the Bund Park, so it was likely where she met with Chen Jiaping.

Zuo Shuangtao found herself in a dilemma. On one side was Liu Wuchang's death, and on the other side was Chen Jiaping. She didn't know what choice to make. Chen Jiaping managed to retrieve the copper plate and went to the Bund Park to meet Lu Fangfang. However, they were targeted by a sniper.
