Perfect Match Episode 11 Recap
> Perfect Match Recap
During the imperial examination at the Golden Luang Hall, Du Yangxi, who had outstanding talent, was chosen as the third place scholar, or "tan hua. " As the newly minted scholar rode his horse through the streets, crowds of citizens gathered to watch. Among them was Madam Yu’s daughter, Yu Xiu'e, who had come down from her carriage to observe. With just one glance, Du Yangxi caught her eye, and she kept him in her mind.
Soon after, the Du and Li families began preparing for a marriage. Initially, Du Yangxi had hoped to marry the third daughter of the Li family, but since Kang Ning had married Chai An, Madam Li couldn’t bear to give up her "tan hua" son-in-law, so she decided to marry off her eldest daughter, Li, in her place. Du Yangxi’s mother agreed, thinking of old ties. However, Du Yangxi was upset. Despite marrying Shou Hua, he showed her no warmth.
On their wedding night, Du Yangxi purposely ignored Shou Hua, not lifting her bridal veil and falling asleep on his own, leaving her to sit up all night. The next morning, he went alone to Dongjing Temple for a scheduled event, completely disregarding Shou Hua. Despite this, Shou Hua, as his wife, still respectfully greeted Du Yangxi’s mother early in the morning and kept the cold treatment from him a secret.
While Madam Du spun thread, Shou Hua, despite having no experience, eagerly offered to help and humbly learned from her. Madam Du, patient and kind, taught her how to spin. On the day of the "return home" visit, Shou Hua went back to her family. Chun Lai, hearing of this, told the other sisters. Everyone became enraged, vowing to call out Du Yangxi for his behavior. Madam Li was equally furious, believing that Du Yangxi was an ungrateful villain.
She was ready to confront him at Dongjing Temple, but Shou Hua quickly stopped her, saying she had a way to manage her husband. Kang Ning felt guilty, and Shou Hua reassured her that there was no need for such feelings between sisters. Meanwhile, Ling Yao helped the drunken Sang Yanrang back to his quarters. Sang Yanrang had suffered from alcohol poisoning, leading to a stomach hemorrhage.
Thankfully, Shou Hua had acted quickly, sending for medical help and looking after him. Fan Lianghan and Chai An invited Du Yangxi to Pan Lou, and Du Yangxi, knowing they were there to speak on behalf of Shou Hua, mocked the two men for being henpecked. Du Yangxi didn’t intend to target Shou Hua specifically. His bitterness stemmed from the Li family’s broken promises and their decision to swap Li for the eldest daughter, which left him feeling resentful.
Chai An advised Du Yangxi to cherish his new wife, Shou Hua, for she was both beautiful and virtuous. If he truly saw her, he would be happy. Later, Fan Lianghan had Du Yangxi confined to his house, telling him to get along with his wife. Du Yangxi reluctantly went to find his mother, only to be scolded by her as well. She told him to apologize to his wife first.
With no other option, Du Yangxi entered his room, noticing how well it was arranged, including paintings and calligraphy that were all Shou Hua’s work. Moreover, Du Yangxi overheard Sang Yanrang praising Shou Hua, saying that she had arranged everything so meticulously, even ensuring his clothes were clean and neat. While they were talking, Shou Hua, with Chun Lai, brought food to Sang Yanrang.
Du Yangxi looked at his wife, noticing how gentle and beautiful she was, and he immediately fell in love with her. All his earlier grievances vanished. But Shou Hua, in order to teach him a lesson, deliberately ignored him. With her beauty, intelligence, and kindness, as well as her filial piety and care for friends, Du Yangxi finally realized how fortunate he was to have married such a woman. At dinner, he sat with Sang Yanrang, becoming increasingly uncomfortable.
He joked that it seemed like Shou Hua was more attentive to Sang Yanrang than to him. Sang Yanrang, annoyed at Du Yangxi’s neglect of Shou Hua, threw him out, scolding him for not appreciating his good fortune. That evening, Du Yangxi tried to speak to Shou Hua, but she ignored him and slept on a separate bed. Later, she even used a cough as an excuse to make him sleep in a side room.
Du Yangxi regretted his actions and quickly sought help from Fan Lianghan and Chai An, asking for advice. Fan Lianghan suggested he apologize by kneeling, while Chai An recommended that he write a poem to express his feelings, since Shou Hua liked literature and poetry. Du Yangxi, excited by the idea, immediately wrote a letter to Shou Hua. But to his surprise, she returned an empty sheet of paper.
Chai An, seeing this, quickly made up a reason, causing Du Yangxi to misunderstand, thinking Shou Hua had feelings for him and was just playing hard to get. He wrote another letter, but still, the relationship didn’t improve. Soon, it was the Cold Food Festival, and Kang Ning and the others sent Shou Hua several food boxes filled with treats prepared by her mother and sisters. Du Yangxi’s mother arranged for Sang Yanrang to join them for the meal.
Du Yangxi watched as Shou Hua worked hard early in the morning, his fondness for her growing even more. However, Du Yangxi was now favored by the emperor and had also caught the attention of Yu Shouxin, the Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Personnel. Yu Shouxin personally invited Du Yangxi to share a carriage. Other scholars, jealous of Du Yangxi’s rising fortunes, gossiped behind his back.
Just as Du Yangxi was about to reprimand them, a stranger, the scholar Yan Zimei, stood up in defense of Du Yangxi, scolding the others. Du Yangxi quickly thanked him, and the two shared a drink in camaraderie.
