After the matter was resolved, Du Yangxi and Chai An discussed the riddle given by the eldest lady. However, Chai An’s offhand comment sparked an idea in Du Yangxi’s mind, leading him to come up with a satisfactory answer for Shou Hua, successfully passing the test. Du Yangxi then reprimanded the four individuals involved and gave Shou Hua a delicate silk fan as a gift.

Little did he expect that Shou Hua would present another challenge, deliberately tossing the folding fan into the Bianjing River and ordering him to retrieve it. She told him that only by doing so would the couple be able to restore their relationship and mend the broken mirror. Du Yangxi, seeing this, sighed deeply, wanting to jump into the river to find the fan, but the onlookers mistook his actions for a suicide attempt.

Just then, Fan Lianghan happened to pass by, noticing Du Yangxi's troubled expression. Realizing that the eldest lady had given him a tough task, he ordered his servants to help search for the fan, but they found nothing. At this point, Du Yangxi recalled the "Li dai tao jiang" (using a substitute) strategy and personally asked Chai An for help.

They decided to have Kang Ning and Fu Hui invite Shou Hua to Pan Lou, where they would secretly place the fan inside a fish and present it to her. Shou Hua was furious upon seeing this, blaming Kang Ning and Fu Hui for colluding with outsiders to deceive her. Fu Hui, however, had no idea about the plan, while Kang Ning was upset with Chai An.

After returning home, Shou Hua, although aware that the fan was not the same one, had no way to prove it. Du Yangxi cleverly resolved the second challenge. Du Yangxi later noticed that Shou Hua had made a new pair of shoes. He initially thought they were for him, but upon trying them on, he realized they didn’t fit and understood that she had made them for her deceased husband.

This filled him with jealousy and resentment, thinking she was still thinking about her late husband, which was why she kept making things difficult for him. Consumed by jealousy and frustration, Du Yangxi turned to Chai An for some wine to drown his sorrows, drinking to the point of getting very drunk. Meanwhile, Mrs.

Cui had opened a new tea shop called "Cui Ji," directly competing with the Sifu Zhai tea house, causing Madam Li to be furious and wanting to confront her. Fortunately, her daughters persuaded her to calm down. Shou Hua saw Madam Li holding a piece of Du Yangxi's calligraphy and learned that someone was offering 300 guan to buy it. She had to remind Madam Li that those people seeking the painting were just trying to curry favor.

At that moment, Qiong Nu brought in the quick-witted maid, Chou'er, who was to stay with Shou Hua to take over Chun Lai’s duties. Chou'er was bright and lively, which made Shou Hua very pleased. Madam Li kindly advised Shou Hua not to dwell on her deceased husband. She told her that although her late husband was good, she needed to cherish the person in front of her, or else how could she ever live up to Du Yangxi?

Shou Hua was deeply moved by her words. That evening, Du Yangxi came home drunk, and Shou Hua stayed by his side, taking care of him. Just as she was about to fetch a hangover remedy, Du Yangxi suddenly embraced her from behind. He confessed that he had grown up as an orphan, with no father or mother, relying solely on Du’s mother, who had sacrificed her reputation and faced public scorn to raise him alone.

He owed her a deep debt of gratitude. Du Yangxi admitted that he could not compare to Shou Hua's late husband, who had a noble family background and high moral character. He was selfish, greedy, and petty. All he had done was study relentlessly, striving to pass the imperial exam and show the world that an orphan could still achieve great success. Shou Hua, hearing about Du Yangxi’s difficult childhood, felt a mix of emotions.

She understood that his sharp mind was shaped by the blood and tears of the world. However, Shou Hua, still unfamiliar with the ways of marriage, thought that couples could only last long if they respected each other and treated one another like guests. But Du Yangxi didn’t want to be that cold and distant person. He pleaded with Shou Hua to be affectionate with him.

His pleading, laced with a bit of childlike charm, softened Shou Hua’s heart, and she finally kissed him on the forehead. Du Yangxi, filled with joy, took the opportunity to consummate the marriage, and the couple reconciled. The next morning, Du Yangxi drew a picture of pear blossoms on Shou Hua’s camisole, and the two shared sweet moments of affection.

Meanwhile, Cui Ji’s daughter, Rong Mei, was adept at using her charms to attract customers, leading to a decline in Sifu Zhai’s business. Qiong Nu wanted to personally greet the customers, but Madam Li refused, insisting she would not follow in Mrs. Cui’s footsteps and use her daughter to make money. She still hoped to find a good match for Qiong Nu in the future.

Shou Hua, Fu Hui, and Kang Ning returned to their family home, only to find Yan Zimei trailing behind their carriage. Madam Li saw this and instructed her two sons-in-law, Fan Lianghan and Shao Qimin, to properly discipline Yan Zimei. However, Fan Lianghan went too far, beating him to the point of losing consciousness.
