Originally, Hao De had planned to feed Fang Yuchan hemp seeds to make her pretend to have malaria and leave the prison. Then, she would find a similar body to create a false death and deceive everyone. However, Xue Guang intervened just in time and, after threatening and bribing her, Fang Yuchan had no choice but to publicly admit her affair with Shen Huizhao.

She accused him of helping her marry to escape her sentence and claimed that he had even instructed Qiao Du to break her out of prison. Du Yangxi, upon hearing this, defended Shen Huizhao, but Xue Guang refused to listen, angrily accusing Shen Huizhao of betraying the trust and favor of the imperial family. He acted as though he was being righteous, claiming Shen Huizhao had conspired with his relatives, covered up his family’s crimes, and had personally freed prisoners.

With Huang Daren present as a witness, Xue Guang solidified Shen Huizhao’s guilt and intended to report it to the emperor to ensure Shen would receive severe punishment. Shen Huizhao calmly removed his official hat and proclaimed that, throughout his time as an official, he had always ruled fairly, without favoritism. He had acted honorably in service to the emperor, the court, and the people, and he was willing to remove his official robes and face any questioning.

After hearing about this, Hao De pretended to believe Fang Yuchan's lies. She stormed out of the room, ending her relationship with Shen Huizhao and returning to her family. That night, Cui Mama went to see the young servant, Mao Chun, at the Shen residence. She said that she had completed all the tasks as instructed and anxiously asked when Fang Yuchan would safely return.

Mao Chun, who had been bribed by Xue Guang, pretended to comfort Cui Mama, but in reality, he planned to silence her when she wasn’t paying attention. The next morning, Xue Guang arrived at Kaifeng Prefecture, proudly overseeing the interrogation of Shen Huizhao. He learned that Shen Huizhao had even written a petition in front of the emperor, and this case would now continue under his jurisdiction.

Soon, Fang Yuchan, Qiao Du, Cui Mama, and Mao Chun were all brought before the court. Shen Huizhao pointed out that Mao Chun had encouraged Cui Mama to lie about Fang Yuchan not having completed her mourning period, thus allowing her to escape punishment. He also revealed that Mao Chun had attempted to kill someone last night to cover up their crimes, and Shen had caught them red-handed. Cui Mama and Mao Chun began accusing each other.

Shen Huizhao ordered that Mao Chun be taken out and beaten. He also confessed that he had long suspected Qiao Du’s involvement, so he had secretly worked with Shou Hua to investigate and expose the true culprits behind the plot. Qiao Du broke down, blaming Xue Guang for disregarding human life. Despite the evidence, Xue Guang stubbornly maintained his innocence, but just then, Lu Sheng appeared, lying to protect Fang Yuchan by claiming her actions were an accident.

Fang Yuchan, moved by his words, suddenly changed her stance, accusing Xue Guang of coercing her into falsely implicating Shen Huizhao. After the dust settled, Shen Huizhao personally went to the Li family to fetch his wife, but was blocked by Fifth Lady Le Shan.

Hearing that Shen Huizhao had left, Hao De became somewhat upset. Amidst the sound of drums and gongs, the people gathered to watch and congratulated them. Finally, they had their long-awaited wedding. On the second day of the third lunar month, the Li family eagerly prepared the wedding gifts. After much consideration, Fifth Lady Le Shan personally chose He Guangyuan, the youngest son of a wealthy merchant family in Bianjing, as a match for her daughter.
