Huo Zhanbai held Xue Ziye in his arms, covering her with his cloak to keep her warm. If only they could stay like this forever, he thought. The next day, Tong woke up but kept complaining of a headache. Shuang Hong and the others thought it best to inform Xue Ziye. However, when Shuang Hong and Feng Lv went to find her, they saw Huo Zhanbai holding Xue Ziye as she slept peacefully, like a scene from a painting.

Xue Ziye slowly opened her eyes, and though she realized she was in Huo Zhanbai's arms, she didn’t seem angry. Instead, she curled her lips into a smile. But once Huo Zhanbai woke up and hadn’t yet figured out what was happening, Xue Ziye harshly pushed him away. Huo Zhanbai felt annoyed—just last night, she had been as gentle as a kitten, but now she was acting like this again. Xue Ziye hurried off to check on Tong.

Though Tong had regained part of his memory, he vehemently resisted the idea of being Mingjie. Xue Ziye took out the silver bell hairpin, knowing that if Tong had picked it up, it meant that, deep down, he remembered her and Mo Family Village. Suddenly, Tong flew into a rage and grabbed Xue Ziye by the neck. But to his surprise, Xue Ziye was unafraid of his eyes, and he immediately passed out again.

All day, Huo Zhanbai worried that Xue Ziye was still angry with him. He pried some information out of Feng Lv and learned that the new patient in the valley was someone Xue Ziye had ordered to keep secret from him. Curious, Huo Zhanbai went to find Xue Ziye, but she was on high alert around him. To divert his attention, Xue Ziye asked him to go with her to gather medicinal herbs in the back mountains.

Before leaving, Xue Ziye instructed Shuang Hong and the others to find Granny Ning and bring Tong to the hot spring to remove the second golden needle. Two hours later, when Xue Ziye returned to the valley, the second needle had already been removed, leaving only the final one. However, the third needle was deeply embedded in Tong's brain, and Xue Ziye had no confidence in removing it. She feared losing her younger brother Mingjie again.

If someone could open Tong’s meridians, it might help her force out the third needle, but because of the complicated history between Tong and Huo Zhanbai, Xue Ziye didn’t want to make things difficult for him. When Tong woke up, he remembered his time in Mo Family Village. By accident, his eyes had killed someone, and his grandfather had ordered him to be locked in a small wooden cabin in the back of the mountain.

Tong confirmed that these were his memories, but both Mo Family Village and Yuanyi Palace had imprisoned him in dark, sunless rooms! Huo Zhanbai accidentally found Tong’s sword and suddenly realized that the patient in the valley was an assassin from Yuanyi Palace. When Tong demanded that Xue Ziye hand over the Dragon Blood Pearl, Huo Zhanbai arrived just in time to save her.

Xue Ziye stepped in front of Huo Zhanbai’s sword to stop him from harming Tong, insisting that Tong was her younger brother, Mingjie. Xue Ziye’s hand was injured, and Huo Zhanbai carefully bandaged it for her. Xue Ziye finally revealed the truth. She believed that once the three golden needles were removed, Tong would have a complete change of heart. Tong was taken away by Zhang Wujue, and Xue Ziye had been restless ever since.

She and Xue Huai hadn’t made it in time to save him. Huo Zhanbai repeatedly warned her that harboring a tiger could come back to haunt her. With Tong staying in the valley, Huo Zhanbai couldn’t bring himself to leave. Late at night, Xue Ziye came to his door but didn’t know what to say. Xue Ziye planned to stay in the library for a few days.

Granny Ning was very concerned, fearing that Xue Ziye might exhaust herself over something impossible to achieve. Even the most skilled doctors are still human, not gods. Upon hearing that Xue Ziye had been staying in the library the whole time, Huo Zhanbai became anxious and wanted to see her. Shuang Hong and Feng Lv told him that Xue Ziye didn’t want to burden him, so she was in the library searching for another solution.

Huo Zhanbai struggled with his feelings. If he saved Tong and Tong continued to commit evil deeds, wouldn’t he be betraying Dingjian Pavilion? However, his inner conflict didn’t last long before he heard the news that Xue Ziye had fallen ill. He rushed over to help heal her. Granny Ning remarked that this illness of Xue Ziye’s was no trivial matter, yet Xue Ziye stubbornly continued to search through medical texts for a solution, even while sick.
