Xie Xuechen and the others selected a new alliance leader, who was Fa Jian from Xuantian Sect. Xie Xuechen told everyone to prepare well today, as tomorrow they would transfer the Chaos Pearl to Xuantian Sect for safekeeping. Gao Qiuyun sat alone, thinking that Su Ningzhen would be unhappy for not being chosen as the new leader. She knew she would probably be scolded when she returned.

As Gao Qiuyun sat there, the wind and sand blew, making her eyes water. While she rubbed her eyes, Fu Lansheng approached and mistakenly thought she was crying. He greeted her, and Gao Qiuyun explained that the wind and sand had made her eyes teary. Fu Lansheng offered to help by blowing on her eyes. Just then, Fu Yuanting and Duan Xiaorong saw them.

Fu Yuanting commented that Fu Lansheng was too soft-hearted, and there were too many women in Bi Xiao Palace who were interested in him. Duan Xiaorong said her son was indeed charming. The two of them spoke for a while before leaving. Once Gao Qiuyun’s eyes cleared up, Fu Lansheng comforted her, telling her not to worry about Mu Xuanling and Xie Xuechen. Though they had an engagement, Gao Qiuyun was angry at the suggestion.

She clarified that she had no engagement with Xie Xuechen and asked Fu Lansheng not to speak nonsense. After everyone left, Xie Xuechen asked Xuan Xin if he had noticed anything, to which Xuan Xin replied that he hadn’t seen anything unusual. Xie Xuechen then asked if he had discovered anything strange in the past two days. Xuan Xin said he would need to investigate further.

Xuan Xin went to visit his master, Yi Nian, and asked if he had any inner demons. Yi Nian replied that his inner demon was the desire to see his senior brother, Fa Jian, become the alliance leader. Xuan Xin pointed out that Fa Jian had already become the leader, and Yi Nian said he no longer had such an obsession. Mu Xuanling sat in front of Xie Xuechen’s door, perched on a tree.

She saw Xie Xuechen walk out and asked why he was outside when there was no moon tonight. Xie Xuechen asked when she had arrived, and Mu Xuanling responded that she had been there for a while. She told him that she had been observing the human world that day.

When Xie Xuechen asked what she had seen, Mu Xuanling said she had witnessed a street vendor selling hairpins for sixty wen to a group of people, but the last one was sold for ninety wen. She also saw that most people in the D market were losing all their money, and an old man on the street had his medical expenses stolen, yet no one stepped in to help.

Mu Xuanling asked if this was the world Xie Xuechen wanted to protect. He replied that there was still some hope. She said there was only a little bit of hope and didn’t think the human world was worth protecting. Mu Xuanling moved closer to Xie Xuechen, stood on her tiptoes, and kissed him. Xie Xuechen promised that when they had time, he would take her to see the real world.

Mu Xuanling thought to herself that she would protect this world for him, just this once. After kissing Xie Xuechen, she left. Xie Xuechen found her behavior a bit strange but decided to wait until tomorrow to ask her about it. The day of the new alliance leader’s inauguration and the transfer of the Chaos Pearl arrived. Xie Xuechen asked the leaders of the Immortal Alliance to bring the jade tokens forward.

He and Fa Jian went to the tower where the Chaos Pearl was stored. Xie Xuechen placed the five jade tokens in their respective positions and successfully retrieved the Chaos Pearl. He handed it to Fa Jian, who was preparing to leave and place it under Xuantian Sect’s care. Xie Xuechen stopped him, saying they should wait for Nan Xuyue to set up a formation.

He then explained to the group that when the Dark Clan infiltrated Yongxue City, someone inside must have been helping them, and their goal was also the Chaos Pearl. Xie Xuechen said that, given the importance of this occasion, the Dark Clan would surely show up. He told everyone that this formation had been newly developed by Nan Xuyue, and that neither the Dark Clan nor any traitors from the Immortal Alliance would be able to escape it.

Then, he asked Fa Jian to recite a spell, which would reveal if anyone had been possessed by Chi Ying of the Dark Clan. Suddenly, Fa Jian attacked Xie Xuechen and the others. Mu Xuanling realized that Fa Jian had been possessed by Chi Ying. A fierce battle broke out, and Xie Xuechen was puzzled as to why someone of Fa Jian’s high cultivation would fall under possession. It turned out that everything had been planned by Yi Nian.

Yi Nian had hoped that Fa Jian would become the alliance leader, and since Fa Jian had refused, he had used Chi Ying’s possession to make him comply. Everyone had assumed that Xie Xuechen hadn’t fully recovered his spiritual power, but in reality, he had already fully regained it.
