Nan Xuyue activated the formation, saying it was ready and they could all step inside. It would only take ten breaths of time to reach Yongxue City. Mu Xuanling reminded A Bao not to forget the promise she had made. A Bao assured her that she wouldn’t cause any trouble in Yongxue City. She added that if she sensed the presence of the Dark Clan, she would immediately inform Mu Xuanling.

After saying this, A Bao transformed into a sniffing treasure mouse and burrowed into the pouch Mu Xuanling carried. As they looked at Nan Xuyue’s formation, they noticed a death curse had been cast on it. Nan Xuyue urgently called Feng Yao to help him. In the end, the formation was forced to shut down. Nan Xuyue speculated that someone had tampered with the materials used to activate the formation.

A Bao blamed herself for failing to detect the killing formation, but Nan Xuyue explained that the aura of a killing formation was inherently hard to detect, especially when concealed. Xie Xuechen also reassured her, and Mu Xuanling added that since her cultivation level was low, no one could blame her. Xie Xuechen suspected this was all orchestrated by the Xiu Xian Pavilion. He proposed that everything, starting from the incident at Jinghua Palace, was a two-pronged scheme.

Nan Xuyue elaborated that if Xie Xuechen was right, the chaos at Jinghua Palace served two purposes: stealing the jade token and creating a distraction, allowing them to sabotage the formation materials. Xie Xuechen pointed out that Nan Xuyue, being the most knowledgeable about the formation, would have detected any anomalies if he had been present. He explained that the large commotion was intentionally caused to lure Nan Xuyue away.

Mu Xuanling agreed, adding that Nan Xuyue’s work on the formation wasn’t a secret. Moreover, Xie Xuechen’s decision to stop at Yunxiu Manor instead of heading directly to Yongxue City upon leaving the Dark Abyss had likely been anticipated. Knowing that Xie Xuechen’s powers hadn’t fully recovered, they would have guessed he’d rely on the formation to return. Now, they weren’t sure what to do next. Nan Xuyue thought for a moment and said there was still another way.

He pulled out a small boat, saying it could take them to Yongxue City. Mu Xuanling doubted the tiny vessel could carry them, but Nan Xuyue poured water over it. The miniature boat immediately transformed into a flying ship. They all boarded, preparing to leave. Nan Xuyue mentioned that while the formation would have taken only ten breaths to reach their destination, the ship would take a bit longer. Mu Xuanling sat by the edge of the ship, admiring the view.

Nan Xuyue joined her, and as they were chatting, Xie Xuechen came out as well. Mu Xuanling asked if he was also there to enjoy the scenery. Xie Xuechen replied that he was just getting some fresh air. Mu Xuanling teased him, saying he lacked a sense of romance and should learn from Nan Xuyue. Xie Xuechen warned her that such comments could get her expelled from her sect in Yongxue City.

Mu Xuanling replied that she understood and would restrain herself. Two days later, they arrived above Yongxue City. Nan Xuyue explained to Mu Xuanling that unlike Jinghua Palace, where it was spring all year round, Yongxue City was blanketed in snow and ice year-round—a pure, flawless expanse where no imperfection was tolerated. They soon arrived at the city gates, where the disciples greeted Xie Xuechen, the Young City Lord, with great respect.

Xie Xuechen met Elder Cang, who greeted both him and Nan Xuyue before turning his attention to Mu Xuanling. Xie Xuechen introduced her, stating that she would now be a disciple of Yongxue City. He instructed her to follow Elder Cang for training. Xie Xuechen asked where the Alliance Leader was, saying he needed to meet him. Elder Yu explained that the Alliance Leader was still in seclusion.

Xie Xuechen remarked that the Alliance Leader had been in seclusion since before he left and still hadn’t come out. When Xie Xuechen went to find the Alliance Leader, he discovered that the man—his father—had passed away. Overcome with grief and guilt, he blamed himself. Nan Xuyue noted that the Jinghua Palace incident had achieved not just two but three objectives, and Xie Xuechen busied himself with work to numb his sorrow.

Mu Xuanling expressed concern to Nan Xuyue, saying that Xie Xuechen would burn out if he continued this way. Nan Xuyue mentioned that Xie Xuechen hadn’t always been like this, but after his cultivation breakthrough, he had become calm, restrained, and cold. Determined to comfort him, Mu Xuanling sought out Xie Xuechen. Although he told her to leave, she refused. She reminded him that he didn’t need to suppress his emotions and could still feel.

After her persistent reassurance, Xie Xuechen broke down in tears and embraced her. Nan Xuyue saw this and quietly walked away.
