Road to Success - Chinese Drama

Road to Success is a youth romance drama directed by Li Qingrong, starring Yu Shuxin and Chen Jingke.

Adapted from Chang Er's novel "Xia Lu / 狭路", the story follows Lin Wanxing, a psychology Ph.D. who returns to her hometown of Hongjing after a personal setback to teach at a local school. There, she encounters top coach Wang Fa. Together, they lead a group of underachieving students on a journey of transformation and self-discovery. Through her “freestyle” educational approach, Lin Wanxing nurtures the students' independent personalities, helping them learn to live, reconcile with themselves, discover their passions, and pursue their dreams with courage. In the road ahead, though narrow, they eventually find light.

Synopsis

Ph.D. student Lin Wanxing suddenly returns to her hometown and begins working as an equipment manager at Hongjing No. 8 High School. Wang Fa, having given up a coaching job at a British football club, also returns to Hongjing and becomes Lin Wanxing’s mysterious tenant. Lin is tasked with reviving the school’s disbanded football team and leading them in a league match — unsurprisingly, they suffer a crushing defeat. With Wang Fa’s guidance, they stumble through and finally secure a win.

Lin persuades Wang Fa to become the team’s coach, gathers new members, and helps resolve internal conflicts. Just as things seem to be getting on track, old wounds from both Lin and Wang’s pasts resurface. They choose to run away at first but eventually find understanding in each other. As the students' final match and college entrance exams approach, Lin and Wang join forces to reignite the team’s passion for football, support them through the challenges of the gaokao, and guide them on their path toward chasing their dreams.
