Upon arriving in Haifang, Wen Wan quickly made herself at home, arranging a room for herself and informing Qian Lianxue she would share it temporarily. She also noted Nie Sangyu's old bedsheets and suggested they be replaced. Wen Wan then sought out Ning Yuxuan, asking him to accompany her around Haifang. When Ning Yuxuan initially declined, citing official duties, Wen Wan claimed the outing was to select new fabric for Nie Sangyu's bedsheets, prompting his agreement.
Muxu observed Nie Sangyu's clear displeasure upon seeing Ning Yuxuan and Wen Wan shopping together and commented that Nie Sangyu was jealous, which Nie Sangyu denied. Later, Gui Bai delivered the newly purchased fabric to Nie Sangyu, revealing it was a gift from Ning Yuxuan, but Nie Sangyu refused it. Gui Bai returned the fabric and informed Ning Yuxuan that according to Muxu, Nie Sangyu was jealous and had skipped dinner. Concerned, Ning Yuxuan immediately went to find her.
He urged her to eat a bowl of noodles he had prepared. Surprised by the broken, mushy pieces, Nie Sangyu tasted it and found it very salty. Ning Yuxuan sheepishly admitted it was his third attempt, as the first became soup and the second was undercooked. Realizing he had cooked for her for the first time, Nie Sangyu was touched, declared it the most delicious meal she'd ever had, and playfully insisted he try some, much to Gui Bai's amusement.
Wen Wan was furious upon learning that Ning Yuxuan had personally cooked for Nie Sangyu. Recalling how Ning Yuxuan had rescued her from bandits after she ran away from home, Wen Wan reaffirmed her possessive belief that he belonged solely to her and that no one could ever take him away. Meanwhile, Qingyun arrived at the military barracks looking for General Tao Siwei.
He initially refused to see her, but she pushed past the guards to enter, twisting her ankle in the process. She confronted him, asking why he was avoiding her. He explained that as he was older, he needed to be mindful of their interactions to protect her reputation, stating he only saw her as a younger sister. Unfazed, Qingyun confessed her romantic feelings for him. A flustered Tao Siwei reiterated that he only viewed her as a sister.
When she asked if he liked someone else, he evaded the question but stated he could not deceive or hurt her because she was Nie Sangyu's family. Interpreting his concern as treating her like a child rather than a woman, Qingyun left, heartbroken. At Shuiyan House, a young woman named Lianxiang arrived seeking refuge. After impressing Miss Shui with her pipa skills, she was welcomed to stay.
Miss Shui noticed severe scars on Lianxiang, who explained they were old injuries from her previous master. Sympathetic, Miss Shui promised to protect her and get her some Feiwan Face Cream for the scars. She later met with Nie Sangyu to request the cream and discuss an upcoming promotional event for Haoxue Cosmetics.
Hearing that Lianxiang's arms and back were covered in whip marks, a shocked and angered Nie Sangyu gave Miss Shui all of her remaining old Scar Recovering Cream, as the new batch of Feiwan Cream was not yet ready. Nie Sangyu hosted the promotional event at Shuiyan House, where Ning Yuxuan and his rival, Mr. Yuan, exchanged tense words.
Nie Sangyu introduced the new Shuilan Face Cream, after which Miss Shui prepared to perform, bringing out Lianxiang as her "new treasure." Upon seeing Nie Sangyu, however, Lianxiang became distressed, knelt, and identified Nie Sangyu as the cruel former master who had abused her in the capital. She recounted being viciously whipped, dragged behind a horse, and sold to traffickers simply for interacting with Ning Yuxuan.
Nie Sangyu, genuinely confused, claimed she had no memory of these events due to amnesia from a serious illness. Ning Yuxuan stepped forward to take full responsibility for the "Ning family matter," but Lianxiang recoiled in terror and tried to drown herself, only to be pulled back by Nie Sangyu. The crowd erupted in anger, denouncing Nie Sangyu and threatening to destroy her business, while Wen Wan watched from a distance, pleased.
Lianxiang then demanded that Nie Sangyu publicly kneel and beg for forgiveness. Nie Sangyu prepared to do so, but Ning Yuxuan intervened, declaring that as her husband, he would kneel on her behalf. Nie Sangyu stopped him, worried about the damage to his reputation. As she moved to kneel herself, Lianxiang abruptly announced that she forgave her, though the crowd remained hostile.
