Baili Dongjun met Xiao Ruofeng after a year apart, but their attitudes had changed. Baili Dongjun confessed that he disapproved of Xiao Ruofeng's actions and felt conflicted that his youngest senior brother had ended up on the opposing side. Baili Dongjun had initially believed that Xiao Ruofeng would prevent injustice, but Xiao Ruofeng made it clear that he would not let anything happen to the Marquis of Zhenxi this time.

He emphasized that if anything went wrong, he would be the first to die. After Xiao Ruofeng left, Yue Yao arrived. She couldn’t travel with them at the moment and explained that she would reunite with them once everything was resolved. The next day, Xiao Ruofeng set out with the Marquis of Zhenxi to head toward Tianqi City. The journey wasn’t going to be easy, as there were already ambushes set up to assassinate them.

This was the biggest contract that Anhe had accepted in the past decade, and Su Zhe from Anhe showed up as well. Three people blocked Xiao Ruofeng’s path, with Baili Dongjun standing at the front. Upon recognizing Xiao Ruofeng, they said they weren’t there to kill, but approaching Xiao Ruofeng wasn’t easy as Mu Nuan intercepted them. Mu Nuan remarked that Su Zhe looked much older.

Su Zhe mentioned the battle from years ago and admitted he was there for the Marquis of Zhenxi. However, when Li Changsheng appeared, they thought that killing him would make them the strongest in the world. In truth, they feared Li Changsheng and decided to leave. It had been many years since the Marquis of Zhenxi and Mu Nuan had seen each other, and Li Changsheng had actually been mimicked by Su Leng, fooling Su Zhe’s group.

This was something Yue Yao had informed Baili Dongjun about before she left, and luckily, it didn’t raise any suspicions. The reason Anhe’s people let them go was that they received another contract—one that involved saving the Marquis of Zhenxi. The client for the second contract was of higher status than the first. The one who wanted to kill the Marquis was Xiao Xie, while the one who wanted to save him was the Emperor.

Xiao Xie hadn’t expected Li Changsheng to return and was furious, as Li Changsheng was again standing against him. Xiao Xie’s subordinate suggested that they capture both Li Changsheng and the Marquis, but he was severely punished for the idea. The Grand Eunuch also learned that Li Changsheng was traveling with the Marquis of Zhenxi, which was surprising because Li Changsheng had vowed never to return to Tianqi City.

The Grand Eunuch then sent people to thoroughly investigate Li Changsheng’s whereabouts. Before long, Baili Dongjun’s group arrived in Tianqi City. Xiao Ruofeng had to report back first. Meanwhile, the Imperial Censors were all stressed about the upcoming interrogation of the Marquis of Zhenxi, as they didn’t want to offend him, and so they kept delaying the process. Ye Dingzhi had already arrived in Tianqi City and went to meet Imperial Censor Hu.

Ye Dingzhi explained that he was there to ask for Hu’s help, though Hu had already guessed that it involved the Marquis of Zhenxi. Ye Dingzhi then mentioned the matter of Qiulu Bai, knowing that Hu was fond of drinking. Hu was eager to have a drink with Baili Dongjun. Hu then went to see the Marquis of Zhenxi, and Baili Dongjun happened to be there.

Hu requested to taste some Qiulu Bai, but Baili Dongjun refused to show him any respect. The Marquis of Zhenxi wanted to know what the Censorate was planning, fully aware that Hu was there to gather information. The Marquis asked Baili Dongjun to speak on his behalf, declaring that regardless of whether he lived or died, he would confront his accuser and prove his innocence.

Baili Dongjun drank in front of Hu, who was naturally pleased, stating that the Marquis of Zhenxi would emerge unscathed. Before leaving, Hu advised Baili Dongjun to be cautious of the dangers he might face. As Hu left, two men in black blocked his path, demanding to know what the Marquis had said. When Hu prepared to retaliate, Ye Dingzhi appeared, prompting Hu to put away his weapon. Ye Dingzhi felt somewhat relieved after hearing that Baili Dongjun was unharmed.

Later, Ye Dingzhi encountered Shen Jingzhou outside the city, and they both admired each other's swords, developing a mutual respect. Ye Dingzhi revealed his true identity, but Shen Jingzhou said he didn’t care about that. Meanwhile, the Emperor had heard from the Censorate that they didn’t dare pass judgment lightly. Hu even stated that the Marquis of Zhenxi was not guilty of treason, which reassured the Emperor. He then scolded another censor for suggesting otherwise.

As for Xiao Xie’s punishment, the Censorate offered their opinion, ensuring that the Marquis of Zhenxi wouldn’t be informed. This was all part of the Emperor’s plan to teach his son Xiao Xie a lesson, placing him in a difficult position.
