Si Jin Episode 23 Recap
> Si Jin Recap
Jiang Zhan was ecstatic after personally capturing the assassin, convinced that he would receive a royal reward. On the way back, he shared a carriage with Yu Qi and Zhen Hang. Throughout the journey, Jiang Zhan kept asking Zhen Hang about the possible reward, while Yu Qi, still injured, lay down resting. Suddenly, Jiang Zhan noticed that the sachet hanging on Yu Qi’s wrist was identical to the one his sister owned.
Suspecting that Yu Qi harbored inappropriate intentions toward his sister, Jiang Zhan attempted to hit him, but Zhen Hang quickly intervened to stop him. After returning to the city, Cui Xu conducted a thorough investigation of all Jinwu Guards, ensuring their background was clean to prevent any more assassination attempts. He also submitted the full list of participants from the hunting event to the emperor and handled the punishments accordingly.
Meanwhile, the emperor casually revealed that Yu Qi was his long-lost seventh son — Yu Jin. To avoid public criticism of Yu Jin returning to Ling’an, the emperor chose to let Yu Qi continue working at the Capital Command. Jiang Shi went to the market to buy some pastries when she overheard people discussing the assassination attempt. They mentioned that someone from the Capital Command had been gravely injured, barely surviving.
Jiang Shi's heart sank, fearing it might be Yu Qi. Distracted and anxious, she rushed home but ultimately decided to go find him. When they met, Jiang Shi carefully inquired about his injuries, but Yu Qi downplayed his condition, pretending it was nothing serious. This was unusual since Yu Qi had always exaggerated his injuries in the past, even for minor wounds.
His abnormal indifference only made Jiang Shi more worried, suspecting that his injury was far more severe than he let on. Meanwhile, Cui Mingyue had returned from Lingshui to Ling’an, causing chaos in her household daily, insisting that she would kill Jiang Shi. The Grand Princess, enraged by Cui Mingyue’s behavior, slapped her to calm her down. On the other hand, Lu Chuchu continued training Jiang Zhan in martial arts, easily overpowering him.
Unwilling to lose face, Jiang Zhan stubbornly declared that "a real man does not fight women. " Amused by his arrogance, Lu Chuchu intensified her moves, eventually knocking Jiang Zhan unconscious. At first, she was skeptical, but no matter how much she called him, he did not wake up. Fearing that she had injured him seriously, she burst into tears.
However, just as she was about to panic, Jiang Zhan suddenly opened his eyes — he had been pretending to faint just to tease her. After being bitten by his own scorpion, Sang Qi faked his death by feigning poisoning. Despite inviting several physicians, none could save him, resulting in the loss of a critical lead. Determined to continue the investigation, Yu Qi immediately ordered the raid of Tianxiang Pavilion to capture Liu Yan'er, but she had already escaped.
Meanwhile, Sang Qi, having survived the poisoning, crawled out from underground. Jiang Shi secretly sent her military dog, Er Niu, to deliver a letter to Sang Qi. Following the instructions in the letter, Sang Qi headed to an abandoned temple outside the west city gate, where Liu Yan'er and Du Er were already waiting per Jiang Shi’s arrangement. Liu Yan'er, still skeptical of Jiang Shi, suspected she was being deceived.
However, when Sang Qi handed over the letter bearing the Elder’s signature written on bamboo leaves, confirming it was a legitimate summons, they finally believed him and agreed to return to Nanwu. Later, Zhen Hang visited Yu Qi, still puzzled about Sang Qi’s bizarre death. He revealed that Jiang Shi had visited the prison cell on the day Sang Qi died and had used Yu Qi’s command token to gain access.
Yu Qi was stunned, realizing that Jiang Shi must have stolen his token earlier that day when she hung the sachet around his neck. Growing suspicious, Yu Qi approached Jiang Shi under the pretense of delivering food and subtly interrogated her. Jiang Shi did not deny it and admitted she had freed Sang Qi. Her reason was simple — she wished to prevent constant warfare between the two countries and hoped for a peaceful resolution.
In the palace, the emperor gazed at a portrait of his seventh son, Yu Jin. He regretted allowing Yu Jin to suffer outside while his other sons lived lavishly in Ling’an. Soon after, Yu Qi and Zhen Hang were summoned by the emperor. During the meeting, Yu Qi pointed out a major flaw in the assassination attempt.
On the day of the hunt, the Jinwu Guards and the Swift Wind Guards were both present, but none of them stepped forward to protect the emperor. This led Yu Qi to suspect internal collusion. The emperor praised his keen observation and handed over a letter confiscated from the Office of Celestial Observations, written in the banned Nanwu language.
Yu Qi instantly recognized it, prompting Zhen Hang to plead with the emperor not to blame Yu Qi for knowing the language. However, instead of being angry, the emperor requested to speak with Yu Qi privately. Yu Qi took the opportunity to advocate for peaceful relations between the two nations. Meanwhile, Liu Yan'er and the others returned to Nanwu, presenting the Elder with Jiang Shi's letter.
The Elder was visibly shocked and immediately deduced that Jiang Shi was likely the "Holy Maiden" foretold in their scriptures. Without hesitation, the Elder ordered Du Er and his men to capture Jiang Shi and bring her back to Nanwu. That evening, heavy rain poured over Ling’an. Zhen Hang, filled with concern for Yu Qi, unknowingly lost his way in the palace.
Seeking shelter from the rain, he happened to spot a blind and stunningly beautiful woman under the eaves, making him inexplicably drawn toward her.
