After being exposed, Madam Xiao remained defiant, complaining that those around her were treating her unfairly. The main Jiang household was furious, yet Madam Xiao insisted that she had acted for the sake of the family and refused to admit any wrongdoing. After her initial outburst, she calmed down and claimed that she had been deceived in the past. She recounted that when Jiang Shi’s mother was pregnant, she had been entrusted with managing the household.

Wanting to extend her period of authority, she sought a medicine that would slow down Jiang Shi’s mother's recovery. However, she did not realize that the medicine was actually poison. She never suspected that Jiang Shi’s mother had fallen ill due to it until recently, when someone approached her, urging her to continue poisoning Jiang Shi. Only then did she realize that she had been manipulated all those years ago.

Upon learning that there was a mastermind behind it all, the children of the main Jiang household demanded to know the identity of the culprit so they could avenge their mother. Although the person in question had disguised themselves as a traveling merchant, Madam Xiao discerned that they were of royal descent. Just as Jiang Shi and the others were about to force Madam Xiao to reveal the person's identity, Jiang Ancheng suddenly intervened, stopping everyone from investigating further.

He shifted all the blame onto Madam Xiao, declaring that she alone was responsible for poisoning his wife and even pressured her to take her own life. Jiang Ancheng knew the true identity of the mastermind and feared that if his children pursued the matter further, they would be in danger. However, Jiang Shi was unwilling to let the matter go and vowed to uncover the real culprit.

Jiang Anmou went to Concubine Ruan’s room and confessed that sacrificing Madam Xiao was a necessity; otherwise, he would have no face left to face Jiang Ancheng or his late mother. Concubine Ruan, however, was filled with unease, fearing that one day she might become a scapegoat as well. Back in his room, Jiang Ancheng reminisced about his past with his wife and finally understood the true cause of her death.

Though he had identified the mastermind, the person was of royal blood, wielding immense power. Not wanting to endanger his entire family, he had no choice but to endure the injustice, feeling deeply guilty toward his wife. Jiang Anmou had originally intended to escort Jiang Ancheng on his final journey, but a servant reported that Jiang Ancheng had disappeared. Meanwhile, Jiang Shi remained determined to avenge her mother, despite Jiang Ancheng's repeated attempts to dissuade her.

Jiang Shi could not comprehend why, after identifying the mastermind, her father was so eager to let the matter rest. She even began to doubt whether his love for her mother had ever been real. Yu Qi tried to console her, explaining that Jiang Ancheng refused to seek revenge because he had a weakness—the very children he sought to protect.

Meanwhile, Nanny Xu’s nephew, who had been monitoring the situation, found her and informed her that the truth of the past had been exposed. Fearing that this revelation would tarnish her standing with the Grand Princess, Nanny Xu decided to handle the situation herself. She followed her nephew to meet with Madam Xiao, and upon seeing her, Nanny Xu openly discussed the poisoning. At that moment, Longdan burst through the door and captured her.

The Grand Princess, who had fallen ill again, required Nanny Xu’s massages to recover. However, when Nanny Xu was nowhere to be found, Cui Mingyue became furious and ordered people to search for her. Eventually, Nanny Xu was caught and confessed everything about the past. Only then did Jiang Shi learn that her mother had once been involved in a relationship with Cui Xu and that the Grand Princess had sought out a woman from the Southern U tribe.

Upon hearing of Nanny Xu’s capture, the Grand Princess led her people in forcefully storming the Yan Prince’s residence in an attempt to rescue her. Jiang Shi refused to let the Grand Princess leave so easily and even considered perishing alongside her, but she hesitated for fear of implicating her family. Just as tensions reached their peak, Cui Xu arrived to deliver an imperial edict summoning Yu Qi to the palace.

At that moment, Jiang Shi refused to allow the Grand Princess to take Nanny Xu away and publicly accused her of poisoning her mother. Upon hearing this, Cui Xu was furious. He questioned Jiang Shi about the details of her mother’s death, and after learning the truth, he returned home in a fit of rage. Overwhelmed with fury, he even prepared a poisoned meal, intending to die together with the Grand Princess.
