Liang Daiwen accompanied Gu Yi and her mother back to their hometown. Along the way, the villagers warmly welcomed them. Gu Yi happily introduced her relatives to Liang. When Liang arrived at Gu Yi’s house and saw pictures of her childhood, he couldn’t help but feel deeply drawn to her. Gu Yi shared that her father had divorced her mother when she was young due to an affair, even having children with someone else.

Seeing Liang gently pat her head with a sorrowful expression, Gu Yi reassured him that she had long moved past it and didn’t mind anymore. During dinner, Gu Yi’s mother suggested they were like a family of three, which made Gu Yi uncomfortable but secretly pleased Liang, who eagerly drank all the wine her mother poured.

Liang shared a childhood memory of his mother, who had been confined to a wheelchair, and his father, who sleepwalked at night, being startled awake by his mother banging a basin nearby. Gu Yi’s mother finally understood why Liang was attracted to her daughter, joking that their families both seemed to have a masochistic streak. While Gu Yi was folding blankets, Liang caught sight of her and found her actions unexpectedly adorable.

Later, Gu Yi’s mother bought Liang a shaving kit, which delighted him. Liang expressed a desire to revisit Gu Yi’s childhood hangouts, believing her mother must have been quite adventurous in her youth. He proposed taking her on an outing the next day. During the outing, Gu Yi noticed her mother was particularly fond of Liang and felt a bit jealous.

That night, while Gu Yi was showering, her mother shared all of Gu Yi’s preferences with Liang, who carefully jotted them down in a notebook. Gu Yi’s mother asked Liang to open up about his family, insisting that her daughter shouldn’t be the only one revealing everything while Liang kept secrets. Liang disclosed that his mother had suffered from cancer when he was young but had kept it from the family, eventually choosing to take her own life slowly.

This revelation left Gu Yi’s mother shaken, realizing how painful Liang’s childhood must have been. With tears in her eyes, she told Liang that her daughter hadn’t lived a life of luxury either and urged him to treat Gu Yi well in the future. Liang and Gu Yi shared a kiss. Gu Yi’s mother, meanwhile, assigned her daughter all the household repair tasks, hoping to foster her independence.

However, neither Gu Yi nor Liang knew what they were doing, turning the house into a chaotic mess. Her mother, amused, urged Liang to develop their relationship further, even throwing in phrases like “slow and steady wins the race,” which Liang took literally. At night, Gu Yi’s mother often endured severe pain, but one evening, she noticed Liang amusing himself with peculiar antics while trying to be helpful.

She found it so funny that she recorded it on her phone, only for Liang to get startled when he noticed her. Gu Yi’s mother teased that Liang was clueless about the meaning behind “slow and steady wins the race. ” Early the next morning, she dragged Gu Yi to join her for square dancing. Liang took the opportunity to show off his “masculine charm,” trying to catch Gu Yi’s attention.

To be honest, Gu Yi found Liang’s behavior endearing, though she hadn’t expected him to playfully nibble her. Gu Yi and Liang shared joyful times together. Her mother, seeing their growing bond, felt reassured. The three of them took many photos together, capturing their happy moments. Gu Yi’s mother even performed an er ren zhuan (a traditional Chinese comedic folk duet) for them, making Gu Yi feel like her mother was reliving her youth.

Later, Gu Yi’s mother handed her the property deeds to two houses, jokingly telling her that if she and Liang ever broke up, she could “crush him with money. ” Gu Yi couldn’t help but laugh at her mother’s boldness. Her mother also advised her not to change her plans for anyone and to carefully choose a life partner. If things didn’t work out, she reminded Gu Yi that it was okay to part ways.

Despite the lighthearted moments, Gu Yi began to notice her mother behaving a bit strangely and couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.
