Hua Qian pretended to be very interested in Zhong Xiwu and asked Meng Yifei about his preferences. Meng Yifei was forthcoming and stated that Zhong Xiwu loved sweet food the most, and lychee was his favorite fruit. As they were discussing, Zhong Xiwu hurriedly arrived. As soon as he entered, he hastily concealed his previous joy and put on a serious demeanor, claiming he had something to discuss with Hua Qian.

On the way, Zhong Xiwu inquired about why Hua Qian hadn't brought Hua Rongzhou along today. He felt that, for Hua Qian, Hua Rongzhou was more than just a bodyguard. Upon hearing this, Hua Qian seemed to understand something. However, Zhong Xiwu still acted like a child looking for praise and told Hua Qian that she could come directly to him if she had any questions in the future. Hua Qian decided to ask Zhong Xiwu about the identity of the person who killed Hua Shen, but his face turned pale. He promised that he would definitely catch the killer. However, he seemed to have forgotten Hua Qian's temperament. If she found out who the killer was, she would personally handle the situation.

On this day, Hua Qian and Hua Rongzhou went out together for a stroll. Suddenly, a couple appeared out of nowhere and started loudly accusing Hua Rongzhou of being a murderer. The woman cried and attracted many passersby, who pointed fingers at Hua Rongzhou as if they had seen him commit a murder. Hua Qian remained calm and asked the woman for evidence to prove that her bodyguard was a murderer. However, Hua Rongzhou told Hua Qian that he had indeed killed someone. Upon hearing this, the woman became even more frantic. Hua Qian, without much time to think, shielded Hua Rongzhou and reprimanded the woman for false accusations.

At that moment, the magistrate of Wang County arrived. It took some time for him to get from the yamen (local government office) to this location, and the fact that he appeared so quickly suggested that someone had obstructed their path. Hua Qian argued her case forcefully and refused to let them take Hua Rongzhou away. Observing the situation from a distance, Zhong Xiwu then stepped forward to take Hua Qian away. Hua Qian initially thought she had found a savior, but Zhong Xiwu seemed to know Hua Rongzhou's background very well.

Zhong Xiwu's bodyguard, Lin Jiang, found information about Hua Rongzhou. His original name was Qi Rongzhou, and he came from Huixiang County, a thousand miles away. When he was ten years old, he became a criminal because he was accused of trying to make money at the expense of human lives. The renowned female artisan Wei Xian died shortly after meeting Qi Rongzhou. Hua Qian recalled that Hua Rongzhou had given her a unique bracelet before; maybe he was hiding something from her. However, she was unwilling to believe this, and she protected him in front of Zhong Xiwu.

Hua Qian didn't inform Qian Zhi about what had happened; she just ordered her to get rid of the prisoners in the firewood room.

Late at night, Hua Wenang arrived at the firewood room and reminded Wu Shuomo not to say a word. Later, Wu Shuomo quietly sneaked into Hua Qian's room and apologized for the incident at the Mid-Autumn Festival banquet. It was from Wu Shuomo that Hua Qian learned that her father was deeply connected to the matter.
