Li's wealthy merchant family would purchase new children every once in a while, and the children previously bought were wrapped in straw and discarded in mass graves. They didn't treat people as human beings, merely raising the purchased servants as if they were dogs. When a dog was obedient, they treated it kindly, pampering it with food and drink, but if a dog misbehaved, they would scold or beat it, and sometimes even make the children fight each other. When someone died, they would hastily dispose of the body in a mass grave and then buy a new batch of children. Hua Rongzhou couldn't bear this any longer and decided to escape by setting a fire during the chaos.

Wei Xian encountered the young beggar Hua Rongzhou on the street and thought he had extraordinary talent, so she planned to take him as her disciple. However, Wei Xian was no different from Li's family and would sometimes call Hua Rongzhou a dog when she was unhappy, casually insulting and mistreating him. When Hua Rongzhou refused to bow down, she even chained him up and only provided him with one meal a day. Hua Rongzhou was still unwilling to yield and tried to break the chains every day. Finally, one day, he broke free and escaped. Everyone saw him as just a beggar, but only Hua Qian genuinely complimented him for being good looking. At that moment, Hua Rongzhou realized that living was a good thing.

On the day of the Ancestral Rites Ceremony, Hua Rongzhou saw that Hua Qian was helpless, so he thought of forging an item for her self-defense. Therefore, Hua Rongzhou returned to the blacksmith's shop to buy a bracelet from Wei Xian. But Wei Xian still wanted to conquer Hua Rongzhou. She trapped him in a room with a mechanism, forcing him to kneel and apologize. Hua Rongzhou was unwilling to bow down and threatened Wei Xian with a knife. When Hua Rongzhou left, Wei Xian planned to use concealed weapons to harm him, but she ended up falling victim to her own plot.

After hearing Hua Rongzhou's story, Hua Qian's compassionate heart ached. She promised Hua Rongzhou that she would find a way to rescue him. Later, Hua Qian sought help from Zhong Xiwu to free Hua Rongzhou. However, Zhong Xiwu refused to assist and firmly believed that Hua Rongzhou was not a good person. Helpless, Hua Qian had to take her leave. Zhong Xiwu felt frustrated because he hoped that Hua Qian would visit Zhong's Mansion because she wanted to see him.

On the way back, the carriage was intercepted by Zhong Yelan. He told Hua Qian that he had a way to resolve the situation with Hua Rongzhou. Although Hua Qian didn't want any association with Zhong Yelan, she had no choice but to follow him to a tea house to discuss the matter. However, Zhong Yelan was hesitant to reveal the details, and he tried to persuade Hua Qian to give up on Hua Rongzhou. Seeing Hua Qian's determination, Zhong Yelan finally disclosed the whereabouts of the Li couple.

Hua Qian arrived at an abandoned house outside the city and found the Li couple. When they saw that Hua Qian was no pushover, the couple revealed the truth. Indeed, Hua Rongzhou had set a fire to kill the head of the Li family, and the dirty deeds of the Li family were true. They had originally wanted to live a good life in Huixiang County, but someone had deliberately targeted them. Now, they felt torn between revealing or concealing the truth, and they ended up hiding in the desolate mansion in the wilderness. Hua Qian seemed to understand something, and her eyes welled up with tears.

Outside the abandoned house, Mu Yao had been waiting. She informed Hua Qian that the Mu family would no longer target the Hua family in the future. Hua Qian also reconciled with this idea, and from that point on, the two families would act as strangers. Upon returning, Hua Qian sold many of the family's assets in exchange for money, which she kept. However, Hua Wenang didn't seem to be in a hurry to leave the city. He appeared to be hiding something from Hua Qian.
