> Scent of Time Recap

Hua Qian told her father not to worry about the investigation; she left it to County Magistrate Wang. However, Hua Wenang didn't seem willing to leave at this point. He asked Hua Qian to go outside the city with her mother for a while, and he would join them in a few days. Hua Qian insisted on having the whole family go to the Jiangnan town together. Hua Wenang, who doted on her greatly, agreed with a smile and promised to finalize everything and resign from his managerial position in a few days before leaving. Hua Qian was overjoyed but forgot to inquire about Wu Shuomo's situation.

Hua Qian went to Zhong's Mansion to find Zhong Xiwu but waited for a long time without seeing him coming out. She was about to leave when Zhong Xiwu suddenly appeared and pulled her into a room. Zhong Xiwu pressed Hua Qian against the door and asked her if she intended to push him away again. He inquired why she couldn't see how he treated her. However, for Hua Qian, seeing it wouldn't change anything. As the head of the family, Zhong Xiwu carried the heavy responsibility of the Xiang family and its mission of saving lives with medicine, which was always more important than personal feelings.

For Hua Qian, she just wanted to rescue Hua Rongzhou. Zhong Xiwu felt disappointed and didn't want to look into Hua Qian's eyes. Over these days, Hua Qian had been busy, and she had come to him twice regarding Hua Rongzhou, which made Zhong Xiwu unwilling to save this "rival in love." Hua Qian had to negotiate with him, mentioning that she had found out that it was Meng Yifei who had sent someone to assassinate her, mistakenly causing Hua Shen's death. She had no real evidence, but looking at Zhong Xiwu's reaction, her heart grew cold. It turned out that Zhong Xiwu had known about this but had kept it from her.

Zhong Xiwu panicked and quickly promised to make the Meng family pay. Hua Qian realized why Zhong Xiwu hadn't taken any action against the Meng family earlier. The Meng family still had its uses for the Xiang family, so he couldn't act recklessly. Hua Qian knelt down and proposed that, in exchange for her not pursuing Meng Yifei, Zhong Xiwu should spare Hua Rongzhou. When she learned that Hua Qian planned to leave the city with her family, Zhong Xiwu lost his temper for a moment and presented the evidence of Hua's family's crimes.

At first, Hua Qian was stunned, but she quickly understood that even Gingko was under Zhong Xiwu's control. Ultimately, Zhong Xiwu agreed not to pursue Hua Rongzhou, but he required Hua Qian to publicly expose the Hua family's crimes. Hua Qian couldn't help but sneer and refused to say more to him, then left. On her way back, she contemplated for a while and then, resolutely, threw the ointment Zhong Xiwu had given her out of the carriage.

After bringing Hua Rongzhou back, Hua Qian planned to send him away, but he insisted on staying, expressing that he only had Hua Qian left and even threatening to harm himself. Hua Qian relented and allowed him to stay. Later that night, Qian Zhi couldn't find Gingko and asked about her. Hua Qian replied coldly, saying that Gingko was just like Cui Zhu. Qian Zhi didn't say more but swore to Hua Qian that she would never betray her. Hua Qian knew that, despite her loyalty, Qian Zhi would eventually marry someone. Hua Qian suddenly teased Qian Zhi about South Wind, but this time, Qian Zhi didn't shy away from it. Hua Qian found it boring and, seemingly remembering something, sat down and wrote a letter.

Hua Qian went to Hua Shen's grave to pay her respects and apologized for not bringing his murderer to justice. However, she was aware of how unfair the world was, where personal feelings often outweighed the law. Killing someone required paying with one's life, but that was only for common people. This was the second time her brother had died in front of her, so no matter how difficult, Hua Qian wouldn't let the killer off too easily. After drinking a lot of wine, she grew tired and fell asleep in front of his grave.

The Meng family had amassed a lot of power in the south, and their ambitions were growing. Zhong Xiwu needed someone to counterbalance them, and the most suitable candidate was Zhong Yelan.
