Jiu Xuanye took Ban Xia to search for the remaining three scenic spots and left Chu Youhuang in the care of the Xiangshan brothers. Jiu Xuanye arrived at a site called the Tree of Fate and told the story of a noble consort associated with it. Ban Xia admired the consort greatly, but Jiu Xuanye believed that no matter what one encounters, one should never give up on life so easily.

Ban Xia noticed how familiar Jiu Xuanye seemed with the place and got jealous, thinking he might have visited with someone else before. Jiu Xuanye explained that he grew up in Guangping City, and since this place was painted based on Guangping, he naturally knew it well—but he had never brought anyone else here before. Ban Xia was delighted. At Jiu Xuanye’s request, she wrote a wish to hang on the tree, but accidentally knocked off someone else's wish tag.

To her surprise, it had Duan Yingheng’s name on it. Ban Xia guessed that her father must also be trapped in the painting and asked a young Taoist nearby if he had seen Duan Yingheng. The Taoist hadn’t, but told a story about his dream—he wasn’t sure if he belonged to the Sanqing Temple or the Bodhi Monastery.

Now, what he wanted most was to escape the false and embrace the real, as he could no longer distinguish dream from reality. The Taoist took the initiative to divine Jiu Xuanye’s fate in love but drew an ominous lot. Ban Xia worried this would affect his mood and consoled him, saying there was no need to be upset since everything here was fake anyway. Jiu Xuanye believed the Taoist had been trapped here for at least sixty years.

If he were to leave, he would instantly grow old—everything here was just a dream. He would never find his master again, because time within the painting looped every day, while time outside did not. The Flower Festival temple fair was always packed with people. Ban Xia thought it wouldn’t be easy to find her father and decided to shout for him. If Duan Yingheng was here, he would hear.

But Ban Xia used the Lion’s Roar technique, which summoned the painted version of her father. Lord He from the painting led people to capture Ban Xia, furious that she had run off with someone and brought shame to their family. Ban Xia and Jiu Xuanye hid inside a temple. Jiu Xuanye couldn’t understand why Ban Xia needed to hide—he thought they could just fight their way out since she was skilled in martial arts.

But Ban Xia said that whether or not he was her real father, he was still her father—she couldn’t raise a hand against him. After Lord He left, Jiu Xuanye suggested they go out, but Ban Xia, cherishing the rare moment of being close to Jiu Xuanye, said they should wait until it was truly safe, taking the chance to lean on him a little longer. Jiu Xuanye then brought Ban Xia to his family home.

They saw his father teaching a young Jiu Xuanye how to read, but no matter how hard he tried, little Jiu Xuanye couldn’t learn. At that moment, his father noticed the two of them and hurried to greet them. Jiu Xuanye was distracted, staring at his father. Ban Xia had to pretend to be sick and made up some symptoms. But Jiu Xuanye’s father couldn’t find anything wrong with her—he said her pulse was strong, suggesting she practiced martial arts.

He suspected she was hired by the medical clinic across the street. Ban Xia hurriedly explained that she genuinely had trouble sleeping, and only then did Jiu Xuanye’s father happily prescribe some calming medicine for her. Jiu Xuanye also asked for some medicine and the oil from the moon bug, but his father had never heard of it and asked Jiu Xuanye what school he was from. Jiu Xuanye honestly replied that he had learned everything together with his father.

Ban Xia pretended to have a stomachache and said she wanted to eat, requesting to dine with Jiu Xuanye’s parents. The kind-hearted couple agreed to let them stay for a meal. Ban Xia told Jiu Xuanye’s father that his son would surely achieve great things in the future, but his father only hoped his son would be able to carry on the tradition of Gan Shantang.

His mother simply wished he wouldn’t become a demon hunter, and that he could live a peaceful life. After the meal, Ban Xia chatted with Jiu Xuanye’s mother while Jiu Xuanye spoke with his father. Jiu Xuanye talked about illusions, while his father shared his thoughts on how to break formations. He even taught Jiu Xuanye the family’s Eight Desolation Fist technique.

Jiu Xuanye practiced with his father while Ban Xia and his mother watched this blissful moment from the side. Ban Xia didn’t understand why Jiu Xuanye’s parents were inside the painting. Jiu Xuanye speculated that the painter had simply painted whatever left the deepest impression on them—just like the current “Six Wonders of Guangping. ” It wasn’t possible for all the Flower Festival scenes to happen on the same day.

Sima Lingying presented her command token and found Lü Chunmian, asking him to help search for Prince Xin’an. Lü Chunmian thought Prince Xin’an might already be dead, but Sima Lingying insisted on uncovering the truth regardless. Lü Chunmian originally didn’t want to get involved, but Sima Lingying reminded him that the missing Chu Youhuang was the Grand Secretary’s son-in-law, and if something happened to him here, no one would be able to bear the consequences.

Lü Chunmian reported the matter to Shen Tunan, who had already guessed Sima Lingying’s identity. As the date for opening the Wuyou Realm drew nearer, more and more people were arriving. Shen Tunan then instructed Lü Chunmian to assign more personnel to assist and to withdraw once they had stirred things up enough.

Jiu Xuanye and Ban Xia arrived at the South Lake Night Banquet, which was originally held by Prince Xin’an to invite talented scholars from poor families to compete in poetry. Outstanding performers could qualify directly for the imperial exams, making it one of Guangping’s greatest events. Just as they arrived, Liu Kuo came up to greet them. The two made up a casual story and managed to get by. Later, Ban Xia participated in the poetry gathering.

Although she wasn’t skilled in poetry or lyrics, she remembered that the South Lake Night Banquet happened ten years ago, and many poems from that time had already spread widely—she was lucky to recall a few and used them just in time. Chu Youhuang had escaped by himself and immediately gathered his men to search for Jiu Xuanye and Ban Xia. Meanwhile, Jiu Xuanye and Ban Xia finally saw Prince Xin’an’s subordinate, Court Scholar Cao, appear.

Liu Kuo recited a poem in front of Prince Xin’an and was praised by all, but he in turn praised Ban Xia as the true expert. Everyone then asked Ban Xia to recite a poem as well.
