Jiu Xuanye's explosive strength toppled a tree, but he still tried to forcefully control himself. At that moment, Zi Kong stepped out and told Jiu Xuanye that due to his beastly nature being sealed by humans for ten years, the sudden release made it hard for him to control himself. If he couldn't control it, then he shouldn't try—he should follow his bloodline. This world was his hunting ground to begin with.

When Jiu Xuanye looked at Zi Kong, his eyes were filled with hatred. However, Zi Kong believed that the one Jiu Xuanye should hate was the person who had hidden the truth, not his own brother. Jiu Xuanye said he was unwilling to leave with Zi Kong. Enraged, Zi Kong wanted to beat some sense into him, but Jiu Xuanye would rather risk his life than leave with him.

Zi Kong left immediately but warned Jiu Xuanye that he would reveal his true form in front of others, to see if the humans around him would still accept him. After returning, Jiu Xuanye knelt before his parents’ memorial tablets. He now understood why his father never allowed him to go to the underground city, why he couldn't remember anything before he turned twelve, and why everyone had been poisoned by demon venom except for him.

Now he finally understood—it was because he was a demon. His father once told him that demons also have good and evil, and they have origins, but he had never known his own. What was more ironic was that he, a demon, had become a demon hunter. Jiu Xuanye bid farewell to his father's memorial and planned to leave forever. He left his sword case in front of the tablet.

At that time, Ban Xia was returning with her father, but she was unconscious in the carriage. Duan Yingheng was very worried about Ban Xia, but there was nothing he could do. Zi Kong saw a group of children playing ball and deliberately went over to play with them, but suddenly revealed his black panther form in front of them. Jiu Xuanye and Chi Xue left together.

Chi Xue offered to become Jiu Xuanye’s companion demon and teach him how to be a proper demon. But Jiu Xuanye asked Chi Xue to stay away, afraid that he might hurt him if he lost control. Chi Xue, however, refused to leave, believing that even as a panther, Jiu Xuanye wouldn’t eat him. At that moment, they heard villagers searching for a panther demon. Jiu Xuanye and Chi Xue followed the scent to a mountain.

Jiu Xuanye warned Chi Xue to be cautious and not act recklessly. Jiu Xuanye went further ahead and heard the cries of children. The children were hanging in a bamboo hut above a suspension bridge. As Jiu Xuanye was about to free them, Zi Kong arrived. The two began fighting without saying a word. Zi Kong turned into an agile black panther and pounced on Jiu Xuanye. Jiu Xuanye struggled and transformed into a black panther too.

The two panthers fought fiercely. Suddenly, Zi Kong reverted to human form and used their father's Heart-Slaying Technique, binding Jiu Xuanye with chains. He told Jiu Xuanye he wouldn’t be able to return to human form for a while and wanted him to see the true divide between humans and demons. After Zi Kong left, Chu Youhuang arrived with Jiang Shangyun, Xue Qiao, and some constables. They used chains to restrain Jiu Xuanye.

Jiu Xuanye knocked down Chu Youhuang but couldn't bear to hurt him. However, a demon hunter attacked Jiu Xuanye from behind. Suddenly, Chi Xue appeared and blocked the blade for Jiu Xuanye, urging him to escape. Seeing Chi Xue stabbed, Jiu Xuanye shed tears but refused to leave. Jiang Shangyun thought this was just false kindness before death. Everyone swarmed in and bound Jiu Xuanye with heavy chains, taking him to the yamen.

Ban Xia awoke halfway through the journey and thought of Jiu Xuanye. She couldn't follow her parents and quietly returned to look for him. Xue Qiao couldn’t explain why Jiu Xuanye seemed familiar. Jiang Shangyun thought he was overthinking. Meanwhile, Chu Youhuang kept recalling being knocked down and how Chi Xue was willing to die to protect the panther—there had to be some connection. Ban Xia couldn’t find Jiu Xuanye, so she went to Wen Jian to ask what happened.

Wen Jian told her that Chi Xue had died protecting the panther demon, and now no one knew where Jiu Xuanye was. Ban Xia suddenly realized she needed to find the panther demon. When the villagers heard the panther demon was caught, they came with stones and vegetables to attack it. Ban Xia arrived and, seeing the scene, was heartbroken. She rushed to the cage, crying and blaming herself for not coming back sooner.

She only wanted to protect Jiu Xuanye and help him escape. Ban Xia suddenly used a blade to cut through the chains, releasing the panther. The panther lay low so Ban Xia could climb on, then ran off with her. All of this was seen from a distance by Zi Kong. Jiu Xuanye brought Ban Xia to the forest. As a panther, he bared his teeth at her to scare her away. But Ban Xia refused to leave.

She knew Jiu Xuanye was Man Ying and remembered how he had saved her in the past. She had been searching for Man Ying all these years. Ban Xia reached out to stroke the panther's head, but it suddenly fled. Chu Youhuang arrived with others. Ban Xia shielded the panther with her life, insisting no one harm it, and told Chu Youhuang that the panther was Jiu Xuanye.

Chu Youhuang immediately ordered his men to stop shooting, but one arrow still grazed Jiu Xuanye’s arm. Afraid of provoking him, Ban Xia quickly calmed him down. Just as the demon hunters were about to restrain Jiu Xuanye again, Shen Tunan suddenly appeared and transformed the panther back into Jiu Xuanye, then took him away. Ban Xia fainted and was taken to a jail cell.

Master Shi heard the demon hunters’ report, learned that Jiu Xuanye was the black panther demon, and refused to release Ban Xia. Chu Youhuang and Wen Jian believed Jiu Xuanye had done so much good and didn’t deserve this treatment. But Master Shi still refused. At that moment, Sima Lingying arrived. She claimed to interrogate Ban Xia but actually came to help her. In her view, as long as neither humans nor demons committed evil, they shouldn’t be captured.

Ban Xia also firmly believed that the one who took the children was definitely not Jiu Xuanye. Jiu Xuanye, unconscious for three days, was taken to Shen Tunan. When he woke up, he immediately wanted to find Ban Xia. Shen Tunan told him Ban Xia was fine and had been rescued by Sima Lingying and the others. Shen Tunan explained that Jiu Xuanye’s identity had been exposed because the Bug of Waning Moon had shattered the Wuyi Ring on his hand.

Jiu Xuanye, however, resisted the explanation and refused to accept another ring. Shen Tunan could tell Jiu Xuanye harbored resentment and explained that his father had only ever wanted to protect him—not to deceive him.
