Xiao Heng continued to send people to investigate. The upcoming sacrificial ceremony was crucial, and Xiao Heng was worried that Xue Fangfei might encounter difficulties during the event. The Jiang family went together to pay homage to their ancestors. Xue Fangfei was actually there as a stand-in for Jiang Li. As everyone prepared to leave, Xue Fangfei stepped forward alone. She quietly spoke to Jiang Li’s mother, hoping that she and her daughter could reunite in the afterlife.

Ji Shuran noticed this and criticized Xue Fangfei for being disrespectful, as women were not allowed in the ceremonial hall. Ji Shuran tried to pull Xue Fangfei away, but another woman came over and held onto Ji Shuran, muttering to herself. Jiang’s father quickly had the servants take her away. The woman kept shouting "Yue Er" and locked eyes with Xue Fangfei. Xue Fangfei guessed that this woman was not ordinary.

After inquiring with Jiang Jingrui, Xue Fangfei learned that the woman was Concubine Hu. Originally a maid, Concubine Hu became pregnant, but the old madam refused to keep the child. It was Jiang Li’s mother who pleaded for her to stay. Concubine Hu was very grateful to Jiang Li’s mother. She gave birth to a daughter, and everything seemed happy until Ji Shuran arrived at the Jiang family. Then everything changed.

Concubine Hu’s daughter drowned in the pond while trying to retrieve a rattle. Overwhelmed with grief, Concubine Hu was confined to the woodshed. It was unclear why she appeared in the ancestral hall. Hearing this, Xue Fangfei sensed a conspiracy but couldn’t pinpoint what was strange. When she looked at the way Concubine Hu gazed at her, she thought maybe Concubine Hu wasn’t insane after all.

Just as Xue Fangfei got into the carriage, someone signaled to Jiang Ruoyao from afar. The horses pulling Xue Fangfei's carriage started to run. Soon, Jiang Ruoyao came over, pretending to be concerned, and offered Xue Fangfei a ride in her carriage. Jiang Ruoyao was actually asserting her dominance, believing that Xue Fangfei had taken everything from her. Xue Fangfei retorted that she had endured much suffering at Zhen Nü Hall, only wanting to reclaim what was hers.

Xue Fangfei was unexpectedly captured and found herself facing Zhou Yanbang. She tried to escape but was tied up. Zhou Yanbang wanted to kill Xue Fangfei, blaming her for his and Jiang Ruoyao's misfortune. Jiang Ruoyao felt that, although Xue Fangfei had committed great wrongs, she didn’t deserve to die. Xue Fangfei overheard this as she regained consciousness. Zhou Yanbang now wanted to elope with Jiang Ruoyao, but they needed money, so he planned to kidnap Xue Fangfei.

Jiang Ruoyao didn't expect Zhou Yanbang to want to kill her. When Jiang Ruoyao refused to comply, Zhou Yanbang knocked her unconscious. He believed Xue Fangfei had ruined his life and even intended to assault her. Xue Fangfei taunted Zhou Yanbang, reminding him of her family's influence, but he dismissed her threats, intending to cut out her tongue so she couldn’t report him. Jiang Ruoyao woke up and heard Zhou Yanbang admitting he never truly cared for her.

Enraged, Jiang Ruoyao knocked him out. Thinking she had killed him, Jiang Ruoyao freed Xue Fangfei, and they quickly left. Jiang Yue discovered the unconscious Zhou Yanbang. When they returned, Jiang Ruoyao was very anxious, and Jiang Yue feigned concern. Zhou Yanbang was brought home, still unconscious, and the blame was placed on Xue Fangfei. Zhou Yanbang's mother confronted Xue Fangfei, who recounted everything that had happened, including Zhou Yanbang’s assault attempt.

She showed her injuries and mentioned that Jiang Ruoyao had witnessed it all. Ji Shuran tried to clear Jiang Ruoyao of any responsibility, but Jiang Ruoyao remained silent. Xue Fangfei knew Jiang Ruoyao felt conflicted and her words moved her. Jiang Ruoyao admitted to everything and confessed to knocking Zhou Yanbang out. Ji Shuran was shocked by her daughter's honesty. Zhou Yanbang’s mother fainted from the news.

Jiang Ruoyao resented Xue Fangfei for taking everything from her, believing all would be hers if Xue Fangfei hadn’t returned. Xue Fangfei argued that even if she hadn’t returned, Jiang Ruoyao should face the truth—Zhou Yanbang wasn’t worthy of her. She encouraged Jiang Ruoyao to pursue what she truly wanted. When Ye Shijie heard about Xue Fangfei’s ordeal, he rushed to check on her, but was relieved to find that she had handled everything. He then left reassured.

Xue Fangfei went to see Xiao Heng, telling him she wanted to boldly confront them. Xiao Heng gave her a whistle, assuring her that help would come when she needed it.
