Ji Yanlin was angry and complained to Consort Li that Ji Shuran had gone mad and was tormenting him ungratefully. Consort Li sneered and accused Ji Yanlin of using her and her sister as tools to climb the social ladder. To save Ji Shuran, Consort Li asked Ji Yanlin to voluntarily resign from his position and become a monk in a temple. Ji Yanlin found this hard to believe and resolutely refused to go to the temple. Consort Li promised that she would bring him back once the situation calmed down, or else he would lose her.

Madam Jiang looked troubled, feeling guilty towards Ye Zhenzhen and her daughter. She also misunderstood Jiang Li for killing her mother and brother. After discussing with Jiang Yuanbai, she decided to give Ji Shuran poisoned wine to end her life. Xue Fangfei suggested giving Ji Shuran a proper send-off. Madam Jiang let her handle it, expressing her regret for wronging Xue Fangfei, who was unjustly sent to the Virtuous Maiden Hall. Xue Fangfei remained expressionless. Suddenly, a message came from Consort Li, asking them to spare Ji Shuran's life. Under Consort Li's command, Jiang Yuanbai had to comply.

Xue Fangfei returned to the courtyard and saw Jiang Yuanbai sitting in a chair, dazed. She walked over and looked at him. Jiang Yuanbai, looking weathered, couldn't believe how cruel Ji Shuran had become. He expressed his guilt to Xue Fangfei, hoping she would forgive him. Xue Fangfei did not forgive him; she poured out her heart about how Jiang Li was tortured in the Virtuous Maiden Hall. Although the truth had come out, Jiang Li could never return.

Ji Shuran was locked in the woodshed, hallucinating and constantly seeing the deceased Ye Zhenzhen and Liu Wencai demanding her life. Terrified, Ji Shuran hid. Xue Fangfei walked in and told her that Aunt Hu had accused her of killing Ye Zhenzhen, and that Jiang Li had been murdered. She berated Ji Shuran for her sins. Upon hearing this, Ji Shuran suddenly went mad, shouting that she was also forced.

Jiang Ruoyao woke up, weak, and wanted to see Ji Shuran to find out why she poisoned her. Xue Fangfei suggested that Ji Shuran should guard the tomb to experience the suffering Aunt Hu endured. Jiang Yuanbai agreed and planned to take leave from the court, intending to temporarily take Jiang Ruoyao out of the capital. Madam Jiang, unable to persuade him otherwise, went along with Jiang Yuanbai's idea.

Prince Cheng's victory over the Dai Kingdom was celebrated at court. Li Zhongnan proposed promoting Prince Cheng, and others agreed. Emperor Hongxiao was displeased, feeling this move was a mistake. Xiao Heng advised him not to lose his composure, noting that the King of Daizhao had quelled internal unrest. Xiao Heng suggested leveraging his past rescue of Princess Daizhao to form an alliance with Daizhao.

Emperor Hongxiao decided to send Shen Yurong to receive the Daizhao delegation, intending to use Xue Fangfei as a pawn, knowing Shen Yurong was backed by Princess Wanning. Xiao Heng was worried about Xue Fangfei being in danger, and Emperor Hongxiao, noticing his feelings for Xue Fangfei, firmly warned him not to develop emotions for her.

Xiao Heng assigned more people to find Situ Jiuyue. When Prince Cheng learned of this, he planned to sabotage the alliance between Dayan and Daizhao by assassinating Princess Daizhao. Shen Yurong was in charge of receiving the delegation, and many sought his favor. Liu Xu noticed Xue Fangfei was in low spirits lately, and Ye Shijie suggested she should join the reception banquet for the Daizhao delegation, believing in her qualifications and hoping Jiang Jingrui and Liu Xu could persuade her.

Xue Fangfei mourned at Xue Zhao's grave, blaming herself for Tong Er's death and believing that those around her suffered because of her. Suddenly, it started to rain heavily, and Xiao Heng appeared to shield her with an umbrella. Zhao Ke helped Xue Fangfei find Hai Tang, who was deeply frightened. Xue Fangfei urged her to live well.

Xue Fangfei asked Xiao Heng for help, hoping Situ Jiuyue could treat the scars on Xue Huaiyuan and Hai Tang's faces. Xiao Heng asked if she was willing to join the Daizhao delegation's reception group. Xue Fangfei prepared to put on a good show for him. She asked Ye Shijie to send a note to Shen Yurong, expressing her desire to join the delegation. Shen Ruyun and Ye Jiaer wanted to join the delegation and accidentally saw Xue Fangfei's application.

Shen's mother learned of Xue Fangfei's intention to join and reminded Shen Yurong not to offend Princess Wanning, believing that their wealth and status came from Princess Wanning. Shen Yurong, embarrassed and angry, received responses to the invitations, but Xue Fangfei did not get a reply. Xue Fangfei asked Ye Shijie to speak well of her before the emperor, hoping Shen Yurong would personally invite her. Shen Yurong, seeing Ye Shijie unwilling to deliver the message, had to personally visit the Jiang family. Xue Fangfei noticed his hesitation, thinking he felt guilty.
