Jiang Yuanbai sent a letter to Noble Consort Li, asking her to meet with Ji Shuran. Seeing Ji Shuran in a crazed state, Noble Consort Li was heartbroken. Jiang Yuanbai arranged a new residence for Ji Shuran, so she could spend her remaining years in peace. Xue Fangfei was already waiting there. Initially, Noble Consort Li ignored Xue Fangfei, but Xue Fangfei knew Noble Consort Li was being controlled and hoped she wouldn't be used by Princess Wanning. She wanted to cooperate with her. Before leaving, Noble Consort Li told Jiang Yuanbai that she couldn't get over Ji Shuran being driven mad and that there was no room for negotiation regarding the marriage arrangement.

As expected, Princess Wanning’s maid reported that Noble Consort Li had not wavered and had not agreed to Xue Fangfei's request. Princess Wanning, confident in her thorough plan, instructed Shen Yurong and Xue Fangfei to put on another act, hoping Noble Consort Li would continue to push for the marriage. Shen Yurong hesitated but couldn't resist Princess Wanning's pressure, and the two embraced intimately.

Xue Fangfei sent a message to Situ Jiuyue asking for fake pregnancy medicine, which Zhao Ke delivered. Liu Xu and Jiang Jingrui, worried about Xue Fangfei being troubled by the marriage arrangement, tried to comfort her, believing she shouldn't have retracted her statement without reason. Noble Consort Li hoped to see Xue Fangfei and Shen Yurong perform together on her birthday, which Hong Xiaodi agreed to. Wen Ji found the palace maid involved in the incident with the virtuous consort, and Xiao Heng learned about the planned performance.

Jiang Yuanbai invited Ye Shijie to his home, hoping he could help by meeting with the emperor and mentioning the arranged marriage between their families to help Xue Fangfei. Xue Fangfei refused, not wanting to involve Ye Shijie, but Ye Shijie said he was willing. Xiao Heng came to Jiang’s house to find Xue Fangfei, and Ye Shijie was heartbroken watching her leave.

Xiao Heng took Xue Fangfei to the palace, where she handed the palace maid’s confession to Noble Consort Li, offering to help her solve the problem without using it as a threat. Noble Consort Li believed Princess Wanning wouldn’t give up, and even if she didn’t push for the marriage, Princess Wanning wouldn’t spare Xue Fangfei. Xue Fangfei revealed she had a plan and hoped for Noble Consort Li's help.

Xiao Heng deliberately asked Hong Xiaodi to arrange the marriage, causing an argument between them. The maids and guards outside were astonished by the dispute. On the way back, Xue Fangfei noticed Xiao Heng was tired and learned he had argued with Hong Xiaodi. Xiao Heng was worried about Xue Fangfei, but she reassured him she had a plan to make Shen Yurong withdraw from the marriage on his own.

While Shen Yurong was attending to Princess Wanning, Xiao Heng arrived, requesting Princess Wanning to cancel the marriage between Xue Fangfei and Shen Yurong. Princess Wanning refused, so Xiao Heng offered the Dragon Guard fish tally, hoping she would reconsider, stating he didn’t care about the kingdom’s fate but only about Xue Fangfei. Shen Yurong, hiding inside, witnessed the event.

On Noble Consort Li's birthday, she didn't want a grand celebration, and everyone had their own schemes. Shen Yurong and Xue Fangfei prepared on the boat, with Shen Yurong believing Xue Fangfei had mixed feelings about him. Xue Fangfei accused him of not knowing his place, and Shen Yurong threatened her with the Dragon Guard, no longer resisting the marriage and wanting the emperor to know Xiao Heng's actions. Xue Fangfei was distracted while playing the zither, worried about the emperor punishing Xiao Heng’s family.

Noble Consort Li prepared daughter’s red wine for Princess Wanning, adding the fake pregnancy medicine to her cup. Princess Wanning intentionally provoked Xue Fangfei, but Xue Fangfei retaliated by mentioning Xue Zhao, then offered to perform a folk tune from Huaixiang. Noble Consort Li agreed, and Shen Yurong pretended he couldn't play, leaving Xue Fangfei to perform alone. Her zither playing reminded Shen Yurong of their past relationship, leading him to drink heavily. Princess Wanning, seeing Shen Yurong affected, couldn't control her emotions and drank several cups of daughter’s red.

After the event, Xue Fangfei urgently confronted Xiao Heng, scolding him for giving up the fish tally for her sake. Xiao Heng reassured her, stating it was all part of a larger strategy. Due to issues with Prince Cheng and Princess Wanning, he and the emperor had struggled to find a breakthrough until Xue Fangfei appeared, so they used the opportunity to stage a play to lure out Prince Cheng's rebellion.

Xue Fangfei suggested Xiao Heng should have given a fake tally, but Xiao Heng knew a fake wouldn’t fool Princess Wanning. He mentioned having backup plans and said he would visit Dazhao in the coming days. Xue Fangfei asked Xiao Heng to keep an eye on the princess's residence as she had other plans in motion. Xiao Heng expressed his feelings and wanted Xue Fangfei to acknowledge them. Meanwhile, Princess Wanning thought Shen Yurong was still infatuated with Xue Fangfei, and Shen Yurong retorted, no longer fearing her threats against his family, which made Princess Wanning furious.
