Recap
On a rainy night, Sang Yan, drenched in rain, turned around and left, saying goodbye to Wen Yifan. After turning away, Wen Yifan couldn't help but look back, watching Sang Yan's back, her eyes filled with tears. On the highway, Fu Zhuang from Nanwu TV station was speeding with Wen Yifan, but they were caught up by a red car, which snatched the news footage.
On their way back, the red car was involved in an accident, and without hesitation, Wen Yifan rushed forward to help rescue the people inside, taking Fu Zhuang along. Later that evening, while Wen Yifan was showering at her rented room, she noticed some movement by the shower curtain. She went to check on her roommate, the fat man, but he denied it. Frustrated, Wen Yifan returned to her room and locked the door. The next afternoon at 2 p. m.
, Wen Yifan was startled by a call from Zhong Siqiao. Zhong Siqiao invited Wen Yifan to hang out in the evening. Wen Yifan had been working overtime for a whole week, so it was time for a break. That night, Zhong Siqiao took Wen Yifan to a newly opened restaurant and bar called "Overtime. " She heard that the owner was particularly handsome and could be considered the star of the restaurant street.
When they ordered, Wen Yifan was surprised to see Sang Yan at the bar. As soon as Sang Yan turned around, Wen Yifan quickly grabbed Zhong Siqiao and turned away, but she accidentally got her clothes dirty by the waiter. Outside the bathroom, Wen Yifan encountered Sang Yan, who had been waiting for her.
He offered her a change of clothes and told her that he was the owner of the bar and that her bill for the night was on the house. Wen Yifan refused the waiter’s refund, and the waiter mentioned that the tip could be from Wen Yifan and her friends to Sang Yan. On her way home, Wen Yifan thought about what might have happened if she hadn't separated from Sang Yan.
Wen Yifan's place was found by Zhong Siqiao; the environment wasn't great, but the location was convenient. Walking alone in the quiet night, memories slowly surfaced in her mind, her thoughts as if carried away by the wind. The apartment was a shared rental, with the fat man and a young couple also living there. After returning home, Wen Yifan went straight to her room.
Outside the window, she could see the train tracks and silently watched a train speeding by. The next day, Wen Yifan went back to the bar to retrieve a bracelet that Zhong Siqiao had left behind. While she was writing down her phone number, Sang Yan showed up. They didn't exchange much conversation.
That evening, when Wen Yifan was about to leave her room to wash up, a man from her shared rental suddenly grabbed her and pulled her into his room. With his wife and child out shopping, he attempted to assault Wen Yifan. Just as things seemed hopeless, the fat man rushed in and saved her. The police at the station informed Wen Yifan that they had checked the rental, and there were no cameras inside, so she could return safely.
However, Wen Yifan was still shaken. She went to Zhong Siqiao's place, where she had trouble sleeping that night, haunted by the memory of her mother abandoning her. Although Zhong Siqiao's family was large, it was warm and harmonious, which made Wen Yifan envious. Because of Wen Yifan's courageous act with the red car couple, they were moved and later turned themselves in. The police awarded her a certificate of honor, and the TV station wanted to interview her.
This incident helped Wen Yifan secure her position at the station. On New Year's Eve, Wen Yifan was out doing live streaming for the countdown. While in the car, she accidentally saw Sang Yan passing by outside. The square was crowded, and Wen Yifan quickly borrowed a mask from Zhong Siqiao. While waiting in line for the bathroom, she ran into Sang Yan again. It turned out that Sang Yan's sister, Sang Zhi, was ahead of them in the queue.
Wen Yifan learned that Zhong Siqiao had responded to a New Year's greeting message from Sang Yan, so she also sent a "Happy New Year" text. To her surprise, Sang Yan replied with a question mark. Wen Yifan responded, "Not happy, but still okay. "At the stroke of midnight, when the countdown ended, Wen Yifan bumped into Sang Yan, who was talking on the phone. Quickly, Wen Yifan shyly wished him a "Happy New Year." Sang Yan looked at her, and without showing any emotion, he simply replied with a "Happy New Year" before turning around and walking away.
Eight years ago, on the day of the new student registration, the sun was shining brightly. At the entrance of Nanwu City's First High School, Wen Yifan's father dropped her off on his electric scooter. With her father's advice ringing in her ears, Wen Yifan happily ran into the school. Unable to find her class, she asked Sang Yan, who happened to be passing by.
When Wen Yifan finally arrived in the classroom, the teacher mistakenly thought she was Sang Yan. At that moment, Sang Yan arrived too. He and Wen Yifan were the only two students who were late, so the teacher assigned them to the last row of seats in the classroom, where they became desk mates. After the New Year’s Eve live broadcast, Wen Yifan declined Zhong Siqiao's enthusiastic invitation and went home alone, posting a moment on her social media.
Zhong Siqiao, at the party in the restaurant and bar, unexpectedly learned that Sang Yan was the owner of the bar street and quickly sent Wen Yifan a voice message. Wen Yifan opened her chat history with Sang Yan. Apart from the single question mark, there was nothing else. Quietly, she moved her bed and blocked the door, her mind swirling with emotions. Tears gently slid down her face, silently.
The next day, Wen Yifan visited a house that her colleague, Wang Linlin, was renting out. The environment was good, and it was close to the TV station. Although the rent wasn’t cheap, Wen Yifan decided to rent it for the sake of safety. Wang Linlin invited Wen Yifan to join her for a meal with her ex-boyfriend, Su Haoan.
Su Haoan immediately recognized Wen Yifan as Sang Yan’s "white moonlight" and excitedly shouted, waking up Sang Yan, who was sitting in the back seat. They had been in the same class in high school, and although Su Haoan said it was all in the past, Wen Yifan and Sang Yan still didn’t say a word to each other. The atmosphere was as cold as ice.
Su Haoan drove them to the "Overtime" restaurant and bar, where two of Sang Yan’s high school roommates also worked. The four of them had partnered to open the bar. Once everyone was gathered, Su Haoan couldn’t wait to spill the beans that today was Sang Yan’s birthday. After coming out of the restroom, Wen Yifan inexplicably ran into Sang Yan again.
She greeted him, saying "long time no see," to which Sang Yan replied, "We just saw each other on New Year’s Eve, it’s only been two days, it shouldn’t feel like a year. " Wen Yifan shot back that the reason she had been staring at him at the bathroom door was because his zipper was undone. Sang Yan was rendered speechless, and in that brief moment, Wen Yifan had already slipped into the elevator.
Wen Yifan excused herself early from work, and though Sang Yan didn’t say anything, he silently followed her outside. He suggested she lead the way to the underground parking lot to find Su Haoan’s car. When they found the car, Sang Yan stubbornly insisted it wasn’t on his way. While Wen Yifan was waiting for her ride, Sang Yan parked in front of her. The silence in the car was unnerving.
Wen Yifan suggested turning on some music, and they awkwardly started chatting. Wen Yifan asked if it was his birthday, and Sang Yan replied, "Did you forget? " Fragments of memories flashed through Wen Yifan’s mind. She remembered when Sang Yan gave her a birthday gift and casually mentioned that he was a Capricorn born on January 2nd. Back at her shared rental, the man who had tried to assault her before was released from custody.
He brought two friends with him, seeking revenge. Wen Yifan desperately tried to escape, running out of the compound, but she was cornered in a dead-end alley. In a critical moment, Sang Yan arrived just in time. He sent Wen Yifan into his car and then fought the group of men. To avoid hurting Wen Yifan, Sang Yan deliberately led them away. After shaking them off, Sang Yan returned to the car and took Wen Yifan away.
At the police station, Sang Yan scolded Wen Yifan for not following him when he had called her over while he was in front of her. Wen Yifan quickly explained that the other side was outnumbered. Concerned for Sang Yan's injuries, Wen Yifan bought some medicine to help him treat the wounds. Sang Yan acted tough, not saying anything on the surface, but deep down, his heart was stirred. Worried about Wen Yifan, Sang Yan followed her home.
He helped her pack her belongings and escorted her to her new rental. On the way back to the car, Sang Yan noticed that Wen Yifan had forgotten the keys to the shared rental in the passenger seat. He quietly went back to the shared rental alone and overheard the three men talking about secretly filming her. To confirm whether they had been spying on her, Sang Yan took care of them.
The school suddenly experienced a power outage, causing chaos among the students. Wen Yifan stood in a corner, gazing at the moon, while Sang Yan defended her in front of their classmates. Su Haoan jokingly remarked that Wen Yifan was Sang Yan's "white moonlight," a term that Wen Yifan didn't deny. Instead, she remarked that "white moonlight" was a nice term. That night, Wen Yifan moved in with her pet cat, Diandian, to Wang Linlin’s place.
However, Wang Linlin was allergic to cat fur and reminded Wen Yifan that she couldn’t keep a cat. Zhong Siqiao went to visit Wen Yifan and happened to run into Wang Linlin, who was in the process of distancing herself from Su Haoan. Zhong Siqiao took the initiative and offered to help Wang Linlin with her delivery tasks. Just as Wang Linlin finished packing her bag, Su Haoan arrived, clearly not wanting to break up with her.
Su Haoan earnestly tried to win her back, but Wang Linlin had made up her mind. Heartbroken, Su Haoan left. At the station, Wen Yifan's colleagues gossiped about Wang Linlin’s love life, but Wen Yifan was not interested in joining the conversation. Just then, the landlord arrived to collect the keys to the shared rental house. As Wen Yifan was about to look for them, she received a message from Sang Yan, which included a picture of the keys.
To avoid Sang Yan thinking that she had intentionally left the keys for some other purpose, Wen Yifan invited two colleagues to join her for dinner at the Overtime restaurant and bar. After picking up the keys, Wen Yifan once again invited Sang Yan to dinner. Sang Yan was torn inside, but kept a calm exterior. Just then, he unexpectedly learned that his home had caught fire due to a fire downstairs.
Wen Yifan seized the opportunity and rushed to the scene to report. Sang Yan went along. This fire caused the most damage to Sang Yan's house, and soon the camera was focused on him. Glancing at Wen Yifan, Sang Yan said into the camera, “I’m very happy. I hope you can be as happy as I am. ”Early the next morning, when Wen Yifan was washing up, Wang Linlin returned.
She told Wen Yifan that her current job was tough and poorly paid. Her cousin had found her a new job, but because of the distance, she had decided to move out. After returning the keys to the shared rental, Wen Yifan came back home and unexpectedly discovered that the door was unlocked. She cautiously entered, and after hearing noises, she immediately exited and called the police. At that moment, Sang Yan came out of the house.
Sang Yan asked Su Haoan to help him find a new place to live, while Wang Linlin was in a hurry to find a new tenant. As a result, Sang Yan became Wen Yifan’s new roommate. Wen Yifan offered to have Sang Yan stay at a hotel, but he refused, citing laziness. He repeatedly emphasized that he wasn’t a person who would hold on to old feelings, and that he had already let go.
Since it was late, Wen Yifan agreed that Sang Yan could sleep in the master bedroom for the night. The next morning, when Wen Yifan woke up, she found that Sang Yan was no longer in the room, and the keys had been left behind. Wen Yifan met with Wang Linlin and once again emphasized that she preferred to live with female roommates. At 8 PM, Sang Yan arrived as planned, and the two of them discussed the housing arrangements.
Wen Yifan agreed to let Sang Yan move in, but insisted that they settle financial matters in advance. Although Sang Yan would only be staying for three months, Wen Yifan set some house rules. She specifically emphasized that no one should be naked in common areas. Since they would be living together, Wen Yifan also insisted that if either of them brought a friend of the opposite sex home, they needed each other's permission first.
Sang Yan candidly admitted that he didn’t have a girlfriend and wasn’t interested in dating. After getting familiar with the house, Sang Yan suggested he stay in Wen Yifan’s small room but still pay rent for the master bedroom. Lying in bed, Wen Yifan tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. In the other room, Sang Yan also struggled to sleep.
In the middle of the night, he quietly returned to his burnt-down home, dug out an old tin box, and retrieved a phone that had been stored inside for a long time.
Wen Yifan was always the subject of gossip in high school. Sang Yan took the initiative to show concern for her, even quietly following behind her when they ran and subtly expressing that he was willing to be her running companion. When Wen Yifan came home from work one day, she noticed the movers going back and forth, while Sang Yan was sitting nearby, fiddling with his phone.
Suddenly, the delivery man brought in a cat climbing frame, and Sang Yan, pretending to be indifferent, said it was just for the order. While Wen Yifan was playing with the cat, Sang Yan transferred 18,000 yuan to her. After receiving it, Wen Yifan transferred 520 yuan back to him. Sang Yan immediately replied with a question mark. Wen Yifan sent him a screenshot of the transaction details, and Sang Yan asked her to check again.
After double-checking, Wen Yifan realized she had made a mistake and awkwardly asked Sang Yan to return 15 yuan. Zhong Siqiao was woken up by her mother's call and was surprised to find herself lying in bed with Su Haoan. They were both completely naked, both equally confused. The previous night, both of them had drunk heavily, and their minds were blank. So, Su Haoan and Zhong Siqiao decided to check the security footage.
In the footage, a drunken Zhong Siqiao was seen being unsteadily carried back home by Su Haoan, and it looked like a consensual situation. Zhong Siqiao told Wen Yifan that their mutual friend, Xiang Lang, had returned to the country and was looking for a place to rent. Sang Yan, overhearing, listened attentively, but when Wen Yifan mentioned that she had already found a roommate, his heart finally relaxed.
Sang Yan asked Wen Yifan to set the meeting location at Overtime, and he quickly reserved a spot for them. However, the best discount he could get was 10% off. Wen Yifan remarked that the decor of Overtime looked like a barber shop, and the sign outside was not noticeable. Sang Yan remembered that the first time Wen Yifan had been to Overtime, she had called him the “headliner.
” With that, he abruptly stood up, shook his head, and said, "I’ll listen to opinions, but I won’t change. " While editing footage, Wen Yifan faced workplace harassment from a colleague named Zhang Ge. Instinctively, she spilled her coffee and ran out. Remembering her previous job experience, Wen Yifan couldn’t speak up, even though she was the victim. Now, similar rumors were spreading again at the Nanwu TV station.
On her way back from an interview, Wen Yifan unexpectedly bumped into her half-sister. Her sister told her that although she had returned to Nanwu, she wouldn't stay at their house. It wasn’t for any particular reason, just simply for herself. As it began to snow, Wen Yifan thought of her father. Her nickname, Shuangjiang, had been given by him because she was born on the day of the Frost’s Descent solar term.
Sang Yan, worried that Wen Yifan would return late, asked her to inform him of her whereabouts. Wen Yifan agreed. On her way to her room, Wen Yifan unexpectedly ran into Duan Jiaxu, who was only wearing a bathrobe. She once again emphasized the house rules to Sang Yan. At the time of the gathering, Zhong Siqiao and Xiang Lang arrived to pick up Wen Yifan. After Wen Yifan told Sang Yan, she left the house.
Sang Yan quickly changed into his clothes and joined her in the elevator. At the entrance of the community, Su Haoan had been waiting for Sang Yan for a while. Zhong Siqiao, seeing how long it had been since she last saw Xiang Lang and Wen Yifan, gave them a big hug. Sang Yan saw this and shamelessly asked to join them, even trying to hitch a ride in Xiang Lang’s car.
Originally, Xiang Lang had arranged for Wen Yifan to sit in the front passenger seat, but Sang Yan plopped down in her place and even adjusted the rearview mirror to directly face Wen Yifan. Su Haoan bluntly asked Xiang Lang if there was a love triangle between him, Wen Yifan, and Zhong Siqiao. Xiang Lang denied it. Thinking back to the rumors that had spread in school years ago, Wen Yifan had always silently endured them without explanation.
But Sang Yan couldn’t stand it and actively cleared up the rumors on her behalf. In the car, Xiang Lang asked Sang Yan if he had known that his roommate was Wen Yifan. Sang Yan confidently replied that he had known, and that’s why he decided to move in.
The winter break arrived, and the teacher repeatedly reminded everyone not to slack off during the holidays, especially since they were already in their second year of high school. After school, Wen Yifan walked with a rhythm, admiring the music box that Sang Yan had given her. As she twirled around, she suddenly realized that Sang Yan had been quietly following her.
He claimed it was just because he was on the same route and offered to give her a ride home. During a group dinner, everyone sat together, and Xiang Lang specially prepared Wen Yifan's favorite dipping sauce. He proudly talked about how they had grown up together, making Sang Yan incredibly jealous, his face dark with envy throughout the evening. After dinner, they all moved to the Overtime restaurant.
While Sang Yan wasn’t looking, Zhong Siqiao suggested that Xiang Lang and Sang Yan live together, but Wen Yifan politely declined. Su Haoan then proposed playing a game of Truth or Dare, and in the very first round, he drew a heavy card asking him to kiss someone in the group. Although Sang Yan resisted fiercely, Su Haoan kissed him when he wasn’t paying attention and walked away proudly.
When it was Wen Yifan's turn to play Truth, she immediately listed several qualities she admired about Xiang Lang, making Sang Yan seethe with jealousy. Xiang Lang then confessed that his biggest regret was not attending Yihe University with Wen Yifan, as they had originally planned. Upon hearing this, Sang Yan recalled the time when Wen Yifan had broken up with him and said she was going to Yihe University with someone else. The pain felt almost unbearable.
Curious about why Wen Yifan hadn’t gone to Nanwu University, Su Haoan and Zhong Siqiao both wondered. Seeing Sang Yan drinking alone, Su Haoan decided to get straight to the point. He told Sang Yan that he still liked Wen Yifan, but Sang Yan only responded by throwing ice cubes at him, refusing to admit it.
Su Haoan then brought up the day when the college entrance exam results came out, and that memory sent Sang Yan spiraling back to that rainy night. On that night, Wen Yifan had said she was going to Yihe University, and she had chosen it because she couldn’t stand Sang Yan constantly looking for her. One of the reasons she picked Yihe University was to get far away from him.
Xiang Lang wanted to show concern for Wen Yifan’s current life, but Wen Yifan seemed distant and indifferent, as though she didn’t care about anything. She also refused to talk about why she had changed her choice to Yihe University. Sang Yan informed Wen Yifan that he wouldn’t be coming home tonight, and Wen Yifan thought for a moment before simply replying with “Okay.
”In the second year of high school, Sang Yan left home early every day just so he could catch the same bus as Wen Yifan and even reserved a seat for her. Wen Yifan’s mother came to her workplace to ask her to come home for the New Year's Eve dinner, emphasizing that her younger sister, Zheng Kejia, had agreed. Wen Yifan didn’t respond. Sang Yan continued to stay at Overtime and never returned home.
Zhong Siqiao, knowing this, informed Wen Yifan. Wen Yifan said there was no argument between them, but now it felt more like they were strangers living under the same roof. Although Sang Yan didn’t come home every day, he would still report to Wen Yifan, reminding her to lock the door. Every time Wen Yifan received his message, she would simply reply with “Okay.
”Su Haoan took Zhong Siqiao home, but they were caught by her family, making the situation extremely awkward. Sang Yan’s interview clip was cut by netizens and turned into a meme video, which later became a trending topic on some websites. When Wen Yifan got home, she specifically went online to watch it. To her surprise, seeing Sang Yan on the screen startled her.
Sang Yan filled the refrigerator at home and, though reluctant, asked Wen Yifan to help clean out the inventory since he didn’t like wasting food. Wen Yifan wanted to offer him some money, but Sang Yan didn’t engage with her offer. Instead, he walked into his room holding a cup of coffee. Feeling bad, Wen Yifan texted him, asking him to calculate how much she owed. Sang Yan replied, “20. You owe me.” It turned out that when Zhong Siqiao called Wen Yifan, Sang Yan overheard the conversation, especially the part where Wen Yifan had said, "We’re like strangers living under the same roof, barely communicating.
In the classroom, Wen Yifan was suddenly notified that her mother wanted her to go to the hospital, so she hurriedly rushed there. When Sang Yan heard, he didn’t say anything but immediately followed her out, chasing after the bus she was on for quite a while before finally getting on it. At the hospital, Wen Yifan ran to the door of the ward but hesitated to go in.
Sang Yan reassured her, telling her, "No matter what happens, I’ll always be by your side. "As the New Year approached, the station needed to arrange shifts in advance. Qian Wenhua started calling out names, but no one was willing. At that moment, Sang Yan sent a message to Wen Yifan, telling her that he wouldn’t be coming home before the eighth day of the New Year. Seeing this, Wen Yifan volunteered to work overtime.
Meanwhile, Su Haoan was desperately placing orders for Zhong Siqiao, asking her to pretend to be his girlfriend and go home to meet his grandparents. Zhong Siqiao initially refused, but after much coaxing from Su Haoan, she finally agreed. On New Year's Eve, after finishing work, Wen Yifan specially brought a gift box for the security guard, Uncle Zhang, at the TV station.
Although Uncle Zhang had to work, his family had come to keep him company, so he wasn’t lonely. Wen Yifan felt a bit envious of that. Thankfully, Zhong Siqiao was keeping her company over video call, but it still wasn’t the same as real company. Zhong Siqiao’s side was full of family warmth, while Wen Yifan felt a bit isolated. Moreover, she hadn’t had dumplings yet. Just then, the doorbell rang, and Sang Yan appeared at the door.
As soon as he entered, Sang Yan went straight to the kitchen, saying he had made too much dough and asked Wen Yifan to help eat some. Sang Yan’s cooking skills were good, and Wen Yifan felt the warmth of reunion with his arrival. Thanks to Sang Yan, Wen Yifan was finally able to eat dumplings on New Year's Eve. After the meal, the two sat side by side on the sofa to watch the Spring Festival Gala.
Although they were sitting together, there was still a considerable gap between them, leaving a VIP seat in between. Wen Yifan’s mother called her on video. Sang Yan looked at her mother on the screen, feeling that she seemed so distant, and sometimes he didn’t even know what the meaning of the New Year was. Before the Spring Festival Gala was finished, Wen Yifan felt sleepy. Before heading to her room, she wished Sang Yan a Happy New Year.
Sang Yan thought back to when Wen Yifan had been in a difficult situation—her father passed away, her mother remarried, and overnight, Wen Yifan had no place to go. Fortunately, Sang Yan had been there for her the whole time. Later, Wen Yifan was sent to live with her grandmother, but her grandmother was old and passed away not long after. Wen Yifan was then sent to live with her aunt, where she felt like an outsider.
Once, when Wen Yifan went out to buy something, she realized the twenty yuan her aunt had given her was missing. Just as she was anxiously wondering if she would be sent to yet another place, Sang Yan appeared. Wen Yifan had no choice but to borrow twenty yuan from him. Sang Yan told her that if she ever lost money again, she could just call him directly, and he would lend her as much as she needed.
On the first day of the New Year, Zhong Siqiao went with Xiang Lang to visit Wen Yifan. When Xiang Lang needed to use the restroom, Wen Yifan offered him hers, but Xiang Lang felt it was inappropriate, so he used Sang Yan’s bathroom instead. When Sang Yan called Wen Yifan and heard a male voice, Wen Yifan immediately sensed something was off, so she quickly ushered them out the door.
Zhong Siqiao was called away by Su Haoan to rehearse being his girlfriend, so Xiang Lang sent Wen Yifan home. After spending the day out, Wen Yifan finally remembered the porridge Sang Yan had prepared for her in the morning. When she got home, she found the porridge was gone, and Sang Yan was leisurely drinking coffee. Wen Yifan admitted that it was her fault this time and was willing to accept the punishment. Sang Yan replied that they could exchange—he would also bring someone home for dinner.
In the school office, the teacher told Wen Yifan's parents and Sang Yan's parents that Sang Yan had fought for Wen Yifan. Regarding the issue of early relationships, Wen Yifan denied it completely, while Sang Yan admitted that he had feelings for Wen Yifan but that it was one-sided. Sang Yan’s parents said that his taste was good, but since it was a sensitive time, it was better to endure for now and wait until they went to university.
Wen Yifan’s aunt scolded her harshly and suggested that she transfer to school in Beiyu. On the 23rd day of living together, Sang Yan asked Wen Yifan to bring home a pizza with her favorite toppings. Wen Yifan thought it was for Sang Yan's girlfriend, but it turned out to be for Sang Yan’s younger sister, Sang Zhi. Sang Zhi recognized Wen Yifan as her brother’s "classmate," and Wen Yifan recalled an incident when Sang Zhi had gone missing.
Sang Zhi explained that she hadn't really gotten lost, but her brother had said she did, so it became true. It turned out that Sang Yan had deliberately made his sister cry loudly in front of Wen Yifan on the way home from class, while he hid nearby. Sang Zhi had then told Wen Yifan she was going to find her brother at the overpass.
Wen Yifan realized that Sang Yan had gone to such lengths just to take her out for ice cream, even enlisting his sister to help. That evening, Sang Yan prepared dinner and set the table. He asked Sang Zhi to invite Wen Yifan, and for Sang Zhi's sake, Wen Yifan agreed. Sang Zhi told Wen Yifan she could call her by her nickname, "Zhi Zhi.
" They talked about university, and Sang Zhi was curious why Wen Yifan hadn't gone to Nanwu University, as it was clearly better for her major. Wen Yifan just smiled and didn’t answer. Sang Yan said he was also curious, but Wen Yifan tried to avoid the topic, which made Sang Yan angry, and he left the room. Sang Zhi asked Wen Yifan if she had ever dated Sang Yan. Wen Yifan replied that she hadn’t.
Sang Zhi then mentioned that she had heard from her parents that Sang Yan had had a relationship in high school. Sang Yan overheard this and quickly rushed over, urging Sang Zhi to return home. On the way, Sang Zhi said that Sang Yan's attitude toward Wen Yifan was quite bad, and that while he wasn't particularly good-looking, he should at least work hard, be kind, and considerate, like Jiaxu.
After sending Sang Zhi home, Sang Yan returned to his shared apartment. When he got home, Wen Yifan had already gone to her room. Sang Yan made some noise deliberately, but when Wen Yifan didn’t come out, he went to the balcony to watch fireworks. To his surprise, Wen Yifan was also leaning over the railing, and she told him that when she was little, she loved setting off fireworks. Su Haoan brought Zhong Siqiao to meet his grandparents.
To match their taste, Zhong Siqiao changed into more formal clothes before getting out of the car and had memorized Wang Linlin’s experiences. Afraid that Zhong Siqiao might slip up, Su Haoan repeatedly called her Wang Linlin, hoping to reinforce her understanding of her assumed identity. Uncle Zhang, the security guard, gave Wen Yifan an envelope, which turned out to be a red envelope sent by her mother.
When Wen Yifan heard her colleagues talking about eating tangyuan, she realized it was the Lantern Festival. This reminded her of the time when her father, even while in the hospital, always put her mother’s feelings first and took care of her. Wen Yifan called her mother, and on the other end, her mother sounded very happy and asked Wen Yifan to come home after work. Wen Yifan agreed.
At Su Haoan’s grandmother’s house, she invited Zhong Siqiao to sit beside her but made her grandfather sit far away. With a strong presence, Su Haoan made an embarrassing mistake when introducing Zhong Siqiao and accidentally said, “This is Zhong Siqiao. ” Although Zhong Siqiao quickly corrected the mistake, the grandmother noticed something was off. Plus, since Wang Linlin was from Hunan, but Zhong Siqiao couldn’t eat spicy food, it raised suspicion.
After the meal, the grandmother went outside to wash the car, and Zhong Siqiao offered to help. The grandmother then exposed Zhong Siqiao’s true identity, and Zhong Siqiao admitted the truth. Wen Yifan returned home with gifts, only to find that her uncle and sister weren’t around. Her mother had made tangyuan for her. Just as she was speaking, a little boy ran down from upstairs—her uncle and mother’s son, Zheng Jiaxin.
While they were talking, Wen Yifan’s aunt came downstairs. Wen Yifan’s aunt pushed her mother aside and told her that her son, Wen Ming, was getting married and asked Wen Yifan to give her some money to buy a house. Wen Yifan was furious and retorted immediately, telling her mother that she would never visit again. She didn’t want to see any of these people anymore.
The only reason she came today was because her father had asked her to take care of her mother. After returning home, Wen Yifan noticed Sang Yan setting off fireworks outside the building. It reminded her of the happy and carefree times when she used to set off fireworks with her father when she was little.
Wen Yifan’s mother was driving a BMW and was outside the school gate, trying to persuade Wen Yifan to give up dancing because the costs were too high for her to afford. However, Zheng Kejia was different; if she didn’t learn art, she wouldn’t be able to go to university. Sang Yan saw this scene and felt a deep sense of sympathy for Wen Yifan.
He did everything he could to cheer her up and even found her a rooftop where he set it up for her to practice dancing. Watching Wen Yifan happily dance her heart out, Sang Yan felt truly content. That night, Wen Yifan was awakened by a knock on the door in her dream. Her uncle and aunt barged in, shouting that her mother had sold her to them, and they tried to grab her.
Wen Yifan desperately struggled to escape, running into a dark, uncertain space. She kept walking, trembling, until she finally saw a light ahead. When Sang Yan came out of the shower, he saw Wen Yifan push open the door. She ignored his nagging and gently laid her head on his chest. Sang Yan was both panicked and thrilled, standing frozen in place, unable to move.
After she pulled away, Wen Yifan silently turned and went back to her room, leaving Sang Yan awake the entire night, unable to sleep. The next day, Sang Yan messaged Wen Yifan to ask what had happened, but Wen Yifan was confused and didn’t understand. As she was leaving, she saw Sang Yan sitting on the couch, shaking his leg repeatedly. She asked him if something was wrong.
Sang Yan asked again what she meant by that, and Wen Yifan thought he was angry because she hadn’t stayed to watch the fireworks with him, assuming he was being petty. This left Sang Yan even more perplexed, especially since she had acted in such a way and then walked away. At work, Wen Yifan talked to her colleagues about her dream. She dreamt of walking through a vast forest, trying to find an exit.
Eventually, it became dark and cold, and she remembered seeing the sun on her way there. She turned around to seek warmth from the sun and, upon finding it, walked out of the forest. She also recalled that, when she saw the sun, she couldn’t help but hug it. Xiang Lang invited everyone out for dinner.
When Zhong Siqiao arrived, she ordered the couple's set menu and asked Xiang Lang what the meaning was behind the bracelet he gave her for her birthday—was it a sign that he liked her? After Xiang Lang refused, Zhong Siqiao shyly asked if they could develop something further. Just then, Wen Yifan arrived. It turned out that it was a dinner gathering for the three of them.
Xiang Lang explained in front of Wen Yifan that the bracelet was something he had wanted to ask Zhong Siqiao to give to Wen Yifan on his behalf. After hearing this, Zhong Siqiao realized that all these years, she had been imagining things, so she took off the bracelet and made an excuse to leave.
Later that night, Sang Yan subtly hinted to Wen Yifan over the phone that if someone hugs a friend and then pretends nothing happened, what does that behavior mean? Wen Yifan analyzed the situation, saying that it mostly depends on the relationship between the people involved. Since she didn’t understand it well, she couldn’t give any conclusive answers, but from his words, she felt that the girl hadn’t clearly expressed her feelings either.
So, to put it simply, it was likely that the guy had been imagining things. After hearing this, Sang Yan was furious. On top of that, when Duan Jiaxu asked Sang Yan if he had been to Yihe more than once, Sang Yan was even more shaken. Wen Yifan gently rejected Xiang Lang, then went out for drinks with Zhong Siqiao. After both of them opened up, they bought matching lily-of-the-valley bracelets.
Zhong Siqiao was curious whether Wen Yifan had ever liked Sang Yan, to which Wen Yifan silently acknowledged. As for why they didn’t end up together, Wen Yifan explained that she was a cold person who tended to avoid things. She felt that someone like Sang Yan should be loved with great passion.
Sang Yan went to Bei Yu to see Wen Yifan. The two were reading together when suddenly, Wen Yifan’s aunt called. Wen Yifan glanced at the continuous rain outside and suggested they go watch a movie. Wen Yifan said that watching a horror movie would help her forget some things, but it ended up scaring Sang Yan quite a bit. While on the street, Wen Yifan was startled by an exhibitionist homeless man.
Fortunately, Mu Chengyun, a university student disguised as a homeless person to experience life, stepped in and helped. After leaving the police station, Mu Chengyun made a point of leaving Wen Yifan his autograph. Sang Yan later told Wen Yifan to meet him at the supermarket, saying he couldn’t carry all the items by himself. While waiting for Sang Yan at the entrance, Wen Yifan searched for Mu Chengyun’s information.
Sang Yan happened to notice and teased, “You like this kind, huh? ”The two of them each took a shopping cart and started picking items at the supermarket. Wen Yifan asked Sang Yan when he was planning to move out. Her colleague had introduced her to a girl who rented out a room, and she could move in after Sang Yan left in three months.
Hearing this, Sang Yan quickly turned around to ditch his shopping cart before finding Wen Yifan. He picked out a pack of toilet paper for her and took the cart from her. Everything Wen Yifan had taken and then put back, Sang Yan added to the cart. At checkout, Wen Yifan had already separated the items, but Sang Yan completely ignored her and insisted they pay together.
He only allowed Wen Yifan to carry the toilet paper, while he took care of all the other items. The rain still hadn’t stopped, and Wen Yifan accidentally left her umbrella in the shopping cart. Sang Yan went back to get it, but just as he did, Mu Chengyun appeared holding an umbrella and offered to take Wen Yifan home. Seeing this, Sang Yan confidently pushed Mu Chengyun aside and walked off with Wen Yifan.
Once back, Wen Yifan saw that Sang Yan’s clothes were soaked, so she quickly gave him cold medicine. Sang Yan asked her to recommend a horror movie to help him sleep, and Wen Yifan thought about Mu Chengyun, the rising horror movie star who had played the little boy in the film they had watched together years ago. They rewatched "Dreams of Waking, Seeing Ghosts", and Sang Yan was so scared that he almost lost his mind.
Wen Yifan even turned off the lights, saying it would set the atmosphere better. Wen Yifan calculated the cost of the groceries and transferred the money to Sang Yan. The sudden notification sound startled Sang Yan, and he almost dropped his phone. Wen Yifan remarked that they had watched this movie together in Bei Yu, but Sang Yan said he didn’t remember, as he had been too focused on Wen Yifan at the time.
Wen Yifan paused on a terrifying scene in the movie, compared it with Mu Chengyun’s photo, and confirmed that he was the little boy in the film. Sang Yan asked Wen Yifan to watch with him, and when she saw that Sang Yan was afraid of ghosts, she sat a bit closer. Sang Yan dressed in a suit to find a job because he had previously given Wen Yifan the impression that he was lazy.
Su Haoan invited Zhong Siqiao to meet, and he was happy that she considered him a friend. Zhong Siqiao noticed that Su Haoan’s hands lacked care, so she gave him a box of hand cream. Su Haoan’s grandmother placed an order for Zhong Siqiao, asking her to spy on Su Haoan’s grandfather. Zhong Siqiao took Wen Yifan to a community activity where they danced with a group of elderly people, and Su Haoan’s grandfather was quite popular among them.
Sang Yan got the job and would now be working with Su Haoan. Su Haoan was very excited and immediately invited Zhong Siqiao and Wen Yifan to join him for a meal. During the meal, Su Haoan expressed how much he admired the relationship between his grandparents. Zhong Siqiao recalled her grandmother’s request: she just wanted Zhong Siqiao to check if Su Haoan’s grandfather’s new love was trustworthy. If they were truly in love, she would support them.
Wen Yifan thought that maybe only women cared more about first loves. Sang Yan said that first love held a very important place and could never be replaced.
Every weekend, Sang Yan would go to Bei Yu to see Wen Yifan. While the two were studying together, Wen Yifan was called away by her aunt to buy something. Since she didn’t take her book, Sang Yan followed Wen Yifan all the way until he saw her enter her house. Her aunt had always been harsh toward Wen Yifan, even reluctant to give her any treats.
Sang Yan knew that if he showed up, it would only make Wen Yifan’s situation worse, so he quietly placed the book in the mailbox and left. One day, Wen Yifan’s aunt went to Wen Yifan’s workplace to introduce her to a boss. Wen Yifan was extremely annoyed and, remembering the abuse from her aunt in the past, didn’t know how to react. Fortunately, Fu Zhuang showed up just in time and helped her out.
That night, Wen Yifan sleepwalked out of her room again, pacing around the living room before sitting on the couch, rubbing her sleeve. Sang Yan thought Wen Yifan was in a bad mood, but as soon as he got closer, Wen Yifan stood up and returned to her room. The next morning, Wen Yifan asked Sang Yan why he came back so late, and he was completely confused.
While Wen Yifan and Zhong Siqiao were eating noodles, they unexpectedly ran into a high school classmate, Cui Jingyu. Cui Jingyu’s son was named Yanyan, and she had once pursued Sang Yan in high school. Back then, in front of Wen Yifan, Sang Yan rejected Cui Jingyu and said she was being persistent to the point of annoyance.
Years ago, due to an early relationship, Wen Yifan’s aunt didn’t even want to give her soup, saying she didn’t deserve it and that she had brought shame to the family. Her uncle also said they weren’t obligated to support her. Living under someone else’s roof, enduring harsh looks and having her self-esteem trampled on, Wen Yifan couldn’t take it anymore. She cried and begged her mother to take her back, but was refused.
Her mother also criticized her for the early relationship. Although Wen Yifan didn’t care, it still left a scar in her heart. She felt unworthy of anything good. Although she had drawn boundaries with Sang Yan, Wen Yifan understood that he was the only one who had treated her well, even though she had hurt him. Zhong Siqiao hoped Wen Yifan would apologize to Sang Yan, and Wen Yifan took her words to heart.
Sang Yan made chicken soup and asked Wen Yifan to help herself. He casually brought up sleepwalking while watching a TV show. Wen Yifan explained that sleepwalking happens during deep sleep, where people perform meaningless actions. She admitted that she had sleepwalked before, ever since her father passed away. Sang Yan said he had seen her sleepwalking. Wen Yifan quickly apologized and assured him she wouldn’t do anything while sleepwalking.
Sang Yan nodded and said it had happened more than once. He reminded her that one time, after sleepwalking, she had hugged him and even kissed him. Wen Yifan blushed and awkwardly asked where exactly she had kissed him. Sang Yan pointed to his cheek and turned around. Wen Yifan suggested they reenact the scene, but she realized that if she didn’t stand on tiptoe or if Sang Yan didn’t lower his head, she wouldn’t be able to reach.
Just after she said that, Sang Yan lowered his head and leaned toward her. Wen Yifan froze for a moment before quickly stepping back, flustered and retreating to her room. She nervously told Sang Yan that if this ever happened again, he should protect himself. Wen Yifan went to the cemetery to visit her father and told him that she was doing well now, that her mother was also doing fine, and that Uncle Zheng treated her well.
Xiang Lang had left Nan Wu and applied for a transfer back to Hong Kong. Everything seemed to have settled down again. That evening, Sang Yan brought chicken soup for Wen Yifan. Wen Yifan suddenly got teary-eyed and choked up as she thanked him. To avoid sleepwalking again, Wen Yifan blocked the door, but she still sleepwalked out that night. Sang Yan silently moved all the obstacles aside and squatted in front of her, watching her.
In her dream, Wen Yifan saw Sang Yan’s face. She stood up, gently kissed him on the cheek, and then rested her head on his chest. Sang Yan froze, as if shocked by an electric jolt. He turned to Wen Yifan and said, "Shuang Jiang, you just kissed me."
