The First Frost Episode 28 Recap
> The First Frost Recap
One morning during her third year of high school at Beiyu High School, Wen Yifan got on the bus as usual. However, she forgot to recharge her bus card. Just as she was at a loss, a girl in the same school uniform silently stepped forward and swiped her card for Wen Yifan without saying a word. Wen Yifan discovered that the person who came to report the case was Zeng Yi.
She stepped forward to introduce herself, and when Zeng Yi heard Wen Ming’s cousin’s name, she looked up. Wen Yifan shared that she had experienced something similar before — that night, she dragged Che Xingde down from the balcony with her. Although she survived, the endless mental torment that followed was unbearable. Zeng Yi looked at Wen Yifan and finally spoke about her own experience. That night, after Zeng Yi finished showering, Che Xingde cornered her in the bathroom.
Since Wen Ming was attending a classmate gathering and not at home, Che Xingde brazenly tried to assault her. No matter how much she struggled, it was futile. The house was mostly funded by Che Xingde, and although everyone in the family knew about what had happened between Che Xingde and Wen Yifan, they all chose to stay silent. When Che Yanqin returned home, she happened to witness her daughter-in-law, Zeng Yi, being pinned down by Che Xingde.
She quickly pulled Che Xingde off and helped Zeng Yi back to her room. Afterward, she told Zeng Yi not to call the police, warning that if she did, the rumor would become a fact, and her reputation would be ruined. Once Zeng Yi calmed down, Che Yanqin rushed to confront Che Xingde. She brought up the incident from years ago when Che Xingde assaulted the girl from next door, Lao Guo’s daughter, and ended up strangling her to death.
Che Yanqin admitted she was the one who helped him bury the body, and now she couldn’t believe Che Xingde hadn’t changed — he was now targeting her own daughter-in-law. While they were arguing, Zeng Yi quietly collected herself, turned off the lights, and secretly recorded a video of their conversation on her phone. The description of the victim matched Guo Ling, who was murdered during high school.
Wen Yifan suddenly remembered that the girl who helped her swipe her bus card years ago was Guo Ling. While Wen Yifan was writing her report at the guesthouse, she received a message from Sang Yan. Wen Yifan informed him that Che Xingde was now a suspect in the case and was currently on the run. She reminded Sang Yan to be extra careful. However, Sang Yan was far more concerned about Wen Yifan’s safety.
Wen Yifan mentioned that she ran into Officer Chen, who had once taken her in, and she also suggested they attend Chen Xi’s wedding together. Sang Yan immediately caught the hint and teasingly told her to make a good birthday wish this year. Wen Yifan visited Guo Ling’s house. Guo’s father lived alone in an empty house, now aged and worn out. He regretted arguing with his daughter that day and blamed himself for not supporting her writing career.
Over the years, he deceived himself into believing that his daughter was simply hiding away somewhere writing and didn’t want to come home. Wen Yifan promised Guo’s father that once the case was settled, she would report the truth and ensure no one else would suffer the same tragedy. There was a possibility that Che Xingde had returned to Nanwu. Concerned about Wen Yifan’s safety, Sang Yan specifically asked about her work hours.
Wen Yifan told him she would get off at 8:30 PM. However, when she was filling her water bottle, she suddenly recalled Che Xingde’s chilling words from the past — he once said that if he ever hit rock bottom, he would definitely come to find her. Overwhelmed with panic, Wen Yifan quickly packed up and went home early. Upon receiving Wen Yifan’s message, Sang Yan immediately drove to pick her up.
When he arrived at the television station, he spotted Che Xingde lurking around suspiciously. Sang Yan quickly called the police before stepping out to confront Che Xingde. During the scuffle, Che Xingde slashed Sang Yan several times with a knife. Worried that Sang Yan hadn’t arrived on time, Wen Yifan called him, only to find out that he had been stabbed and was now at Nanwu City Central Hospital. Panic-stricken, Wen Yifan rushed to the hospital like a madwoman.
On the way, she received a call from Sang Yan, assuring her that he was fine, and Che Xingde had gotten the worst of it. By the time Wen Yifan arrived at the hospital, Sang Yan had just finished giving his statement. Seeing his hand stitched with eight stitches, Wen Yifan was both furious and distressed. Fighting back tears, Sang Yan choked up and confessed, "I’ve always cared so much… This time, I finally did it. I finally protected you and pulled you out of your pain and despair. I’m really happy that I did it.
