The Ingenious One Recap
Episode 1 Recap
According to the rumors in the martial world, there is a secretive sect called "Qian Men". Its members are exceptionally intelligent and can serve the country and protect the people. However, as things tend to go, the extreme leads to the opposite, and Qian Men eventually provoked the wrath of heaven and the imperial court by causing chaos in the state. One faction of Qian Men, called "Ling Yuan", was martial and swore to resist the court to the death, while the other faction, "Yun Tai", distanced themselves from politics and became merchants. Ling Yuan and Yun Tai were originally from the same root, but they have been fighting for a hundred years due to their differences.
Several months ago, Yun Xiang left the mountains after completing his studies, upholding the principles of his sect which aimed to benefit the world and protect the people. He sought to settle old scores with his family's enemies. However, during this process, Yun Xiang learned that his savior Wen Cong had been imprisoned and was serving his sentence in the salt fields of Baiju Town. Yun Xiang immediately went alone to rescue him. Meanwhile, due to the government's ban on maritime trade, the livelihoods of fishermen were threatened, and the corrupt officials in Baiju Town colluded with bandits to expel the Jianghu heroes and intercept salt merchants.
Yun Xiang had heard earlier and secretly joined forces with the Jianghu gang to set up a trap to besiege the bandits, laying the foundation for the next step. It was precisely because he dressed like a weak scholar in a white robe and black gown with a gauze cap that he could easily make people lower their guard. By the time the bandits realized the incense burner was poisoned, it was too late, and they had no choice but to surrender.
After successfully completing their mission, Yun Xiang learned from the bandit leader that the mastermind behind the scenes was Yan Luowang, who used his official position for personal gain and framed the Jianghu heroes under the guise of suppressing bandits. After bidding farewell to everyone, Yun Xiang went to the gambling den where Yan Luowang often went and coincidentally met the valiant Shu Yanan. When Yan Luowang was exposed as a cheat by Shu Yanan, who had a strong character, she fought with his henchmen in public and ultimately escaped by jumping out of a window.
That night, a sudden strong wind blew with rain and fog pouring down, but it did not dampen Yun Xiang's mood for watching the fight. He stood nearby holding an umbrella, watching as Shu Yanan fought against multiple opponents with ease, knocking them down with just a few moves. She left a deep impression on him.
The next day, Yun Xiang found the fellow disciple Chai, the boss of the Chai Medicine Shop. He took the initiative to talk to him about the past of the Yun Tai, but when it came to the situation of Wen Cong being imprisoned, Chai was vague in his response. Yun Xiang did not delve deeper into the matter, but suddenly remembered the heroic figure of Shu Yanan and curiously asked Chai if he knew whether any other fellow disciples had been sent to Baiju Town. The answer was that no one else had been sent there.
Yun Xiang learned from the shopkeeper Chai that Yan Luowang had colluded with the Cao Gang, but because the account books were done perfectly on the surface, it had not yet attracted the attention of the government. Later, Yun Xiang sneaked into Yan Luowang's house to search for hidden accounts and met Shu Yanan again. They hid themselves on a beam before Yan Luowang arrived, and although the process was dangerous and almost exposed, they finally heard the content of his transaction with the leader of the Cao Gang.
After leaving Yan's mansion, Yun Xiang figured out that Shu Yanan was Wen Cong's adopted daughter. He confided in her about his mission to rescue Wen Cong and promised her a surefire plan with a hundred percent success rate. To prove his sincerity, Yun Xiang offered to show Shu Yanan his secret account book. Shu Yanan accepted his proposal, and they agreed to cooperate with each other while acting independently.
Their plan's first step was for Yun Xiang to go back to the Hongyun Casino and challenge Yan Luowang to a gambling match publicly. Yan Luowang vaguely remembered Yun Xiang from his previous visit and became suspicious of his relationship with Shu Yanan. Thus, he set the rule that even if they tied, the one who went first would win.
Yan Luowang had exceptional dice-rolling skills and blocked Yun Xiang's path with three ones directly. He was convinced that Yun Xiang would lose the game, but to his surprise, Yun Xiang stacked the three dice without even touching the cup. After several intense rounds, Yun Xiang gained the upper hand and intentionally exposed Yan Luowang's secret of injecting mercury into the dice.
As expected, Yan Luowang became furious and had Yun Xiang thrown into the Salt Mine Dungeon. The dungeon was dark, cold, and filled with desperate cries and unbearable stench. Yan Luowang stood in front of Yun Xiang with a condescending attitude, swearing to make him suffer and never see the light of day again.
Episode 2 Recap
Fifteen years ago, bandits massacred the Luo family village, and hundreds of people were killed. Yun Xiang witnessed the tragic deaths of his parents with his own eyes and was fortunate to be saved by Wen Cong and sent to Yun Tai. Young Yun Xiang swore to avenge his parents and made a promise with Wen Cong that he would find out the truth when he left the mountains. Since then, he has hidden his identity as "Luo Wenjia" and focused on cultivating for fifteen years.
Now, in prison, Yun Xiang has a chance to investigate and finally identifies an old man with a broken leg and a foul smell as Wen Cong. However, Wen Cong has been tortured to the point of being almost lifeless. Yun Xiang encourages him not to give up, carefully records the working hours and living habits of the prison guards, and talks to Wen Cong as much as possible. Under Yun Xiang's questioning, Wen Cong truthfully tells him that he was killed by Qitianfeng, the leader of the Caobang gang, and falsely accused of fraud and deception.
At the same time, Shu Yanan posted the secret accounts of Yan Luowang's salt trafficking at the Yanzhou government office, causing a citywide uproar. Qitianfeng was afraid of being implicated and ordered his men to kill the witnesses in Baiju town. When Yan Luowang heard that the accounts had been leaked, he was furious and returned to the prison to interrogate Wen Cong about whether he had passed on the news. But seeing Wen Cong with both feet broken and barely alive, Yan Luowang realized that he couldn't have done such a thing and decided to pack up and flee. Zhang Kui, a member of the Caobang gang, was sent to kill Yan Luowang and burned down the Yan mansion. Although Yan Luowang escaped from the siege, he met Shu Yanan on the way and was ultimately unable to save himself.
As news of Yan Luowang's salt trafficking spread, everyone involved was uneasy, and the prison guards were too busy to pay attention to what was happening in the prison. Yun Xiang seized the opportunity to start a fire and distract the guards.
Before his death, Wen Cong revealed the truth about the tragedy at Luo's village. He bribed officials and soldiers through Qi Tianfeng in the name of fighting pirates to enter Luo's village and force the farmers to give up their land. However, the soldiers went on a killing spree, and the old, weak, women, and children were unable to escape. When Wen Cong arrived and learned of the situation, he only managed to save Yun Xiang. Apart from that, Wen Cong did not reveal the true culprit behind the scenes. Instead, he advised Yun Xiang to give up revenge, as he knew that the more one knew, the more desperate they would become. Shu Yanan timely repelled the pursuers, and Wen Cong's daughter entrusted Yun Xiang to take care of her.
Because Qi Tianfeng was also the enemy who destroyed Shu's entire family, Shu Yanan swore at Wen Cong's grave that she would catch him during her lifetime and promised to work together with Yun Xiang.
Although Yun Xiang was not yet skilled in martial arts, he was good at strategizing. Cooperation was better than fighting alone. The two of them then traveled together to Yangzhou, where the transportation gang was thriving. Nearby, there was also a famous swordsman named Jin Biao, also known as Jin Shiliang. Although he was in the business of killing for money, he had a bottom line that could not be crossed: not to kill women, children, and those he liked. Yun Xiang knew that Qi Tianfeng would not let him go, so he hired the number one swordsman in the martial arts world, Jin Biao, in advance to ensure a safe journey. Jin Biao took Yun Xiang's money and promised to keep his word, rejecting Zhang Kui's offer of a large sum of money and going straight to the agreed meeting place. Yun Xiang did not disappoint Jin Biao and gave him a golden ingot as a reward.
The prosperity of Yangzhou is second only to the capital city, with the two cities located on opposite sides of the Yangtze River and serving as important hubs for frequent commercial trade, including that of the Su family, one of the century-old merchant families in the capital city. However, Su Mingyu, the young master of the Su family, lacks worldly experience and places great value on friendship. Some people understand his weaknesses very well and flatter him excessively. He was quite pleased with himself and rashly bought back raw silk at a high price from the other party, causing Qian Rong, the housekeeper, a lot of headaches.
Yun Xiang saw everything clearly and approached Qian Rong to talk, exposing Su Mingyu's business loophole. He believed that honesty and integrity were essential in business, and violating rules would make many honest farmers feel cold-hearted, which would ruin their reputation. This statement made Su Mingyu unhappy, but Qian Rong thought that Yun Xiang had a good head for business and was willing to take him with him to the capital city.
Episode 3 Recap
Due to the destruction of the road ahead, the caravan rested and reorganized in the nearby forest. That night, Jin Biao slept soundly leaning against a tree, which gave Yun Xiang some peace of mind and meant that he had confidence in dealing with these crises. Shu Yanan noticed that Yun Xiang had some martial arts skills, otherwise, how could he easily dodge the arrows? She was curious why he still hired Jin Biao at a high cost for protection. Yun Xiang honestly admitted that this set of martial arts had some flaws, but he was unwilling to reveal the location of his vital points. As they were talking, Su Mingyu came over with a wine jug, swaying back and forth, and talked about her troubles under the influence of alcohol. Since her father's death, all the family business had been entrusted to her elder sister Su Huairou, but Su Mingyu was still the eldest son of the Su family and would eventually take over the position of the imperial merchant. However, Su Mingyu's ambition was not in doing business, but in becoming a master swordsman and traveling around the world.
At this moment, a large group of bandits suddenly attacked the caravan. Shu Yanan and Jin Biao fought back with all their strength, while Yun Xiang showed his unique skill for the first time, which could only be sustained for ten breaths, as its name implied. The steward Qian Rong realized that these people were not just random robbers, but seemed to be after Yun Xiang, so Yun Xiang used his eloquence to divert suspicion towards the conflict between the Su family and the Cao gang, which made Qian Rong half-believe it.
Su Mingyu is passionate about martial arts and becomes friends with Jin Biao. They practice martial arts together while on the road. Su Mingyu originally thought that Jin Biao's knife skills were inherited from the Wu family of Beidu, but the Wu family's knife skills, the "Suspension Rock Twelve Forms," emphasized being impenetrable, rather than winning by speed like lightning. On the other hand, Shu Yanan's moves seemed elusive and tricky, but in reality, they were more defensive than offensive. Su Mingyu instantly thought of the "Pulling Star Knife" of the Shu family in Nandu. When Su Mingyu mentioned this, both Shu Yanan and Jin Biao were secretly surprised. They didn't expect this young master, who couldn't fight, to have some knowledge about martial arts. Su Mingyu felt a deep connection with the two and expressed that he would entertain them as the host when they reached Nandu. However, he ignored Yun Xiang, who was standing behind him.
Zhang Kui's defeat caused numerous deaths and injuries to his brothers. Qi Tianfeng ordered a lavish burial for them and gave Zhang Kui one last chance to make amends. Su Huairou, the eldest daughter of the Su family, was looking through account books in the study and gradually understood Qian Rong's daily hard work and management. She hoped that her younger brother could take on responsibilities as soon as possible. After the caravan arrived in Nandu, Su Mingyu took the three friends to the Liansheng Lane, the famous industry of Wen Cong, and finally saw Ke Menglan, the female mastermind he had been longing for. When Wen Cong was at his peak, his assets were everywhere in Nandu and he was in a great position. However, after he fell out of favor, the merchants in Nandu were like wolves and tigers fighting over his properties. Only the Liansheng Lane faced auction and would soon fall into the hands of others.
Shu Yanan was curious about Yun Xiang's relationship with saving Liansheng Lane and seeking revenge. Yun Xiang did not give a direct answer, but instead asked why she knew Ling Yuan's martial arts. Shu Yanan calmly explained that she had saved Ling Yuan's disciple many years ago and had secretly learned one and a half moves from him. Yun Xiang did not express his opinion on this, as he had his own answer in mind. As for the real purpose of coming to the southern capital this time, Yun Xiang told Shu Yanan that he wanted to make Qi Tianfeng and the Caobang gang fall apart, and of course he needed Shu Yanan to assist him, with each playing to their strengths. Yun Xiang knew that the business world was based on a chain of debt, and since these merchants were unscrupulous, he saw no need to treat them with courtesy and decided to collect all the debts owed, and the effect would depend on Shu Yanan's means.
Jin Biao is a gambling addict and not good at gambling skills. He lost all his money to Ke Menglan and owed her 60 taels of silver. Just when Jin Biao questioned Shu Yanan's intention for bringing him to the gambling house, Yun Xiang stepped in and gambled against Ke Menglan. He won back the silver that Jin Biao had lost in just one game. After the game, Jin Biao wanted to repay Yun Xiang by offering to kill someone for him at half price. However, Yun Xiang allowed Jin Biao to stay by his side as a bodyguard and paid him a salary every day.
Seeing that Liansheng Lane is about to be auctioned, Ke Menglan is worried and feels uncomfortable. She is afraid that changing ownership of the gambling house will cause her and her sisters to lose their shelter. Su Mingyu saved up 3,000 taels of silver to participate in the auction for Liansheng Lane, claiming that he will not let Ke Menglan become homeless. However, he had made similar promises before but failed to fulfill them.
Episode 4 Recap
Guanghui Zhuang is the Qianzhuang (money bank) that Yuntai established in the southern capital. Yun Xiang visited Mo Bufan, a fellow member who was managing the bank, through Kang Qiao. He sought for help and asked about Wen Cong's situation. Mo Bufan evaded his questions, unwilling to say more. Yun Xiang silently noted Wen Cong's transactions with Guanghui Zhuang in his mind. Although Wen Cong and Mo Bufan were both members of Yuntai, they had different responsibilities. One was in charge of managing the affairs of the southern capital, while the other was responsible for collecting information and delivering letters. This could explain why Wen Cong fell into trouble, but Mo Bufan was still able to take care of himself. After Yun Xiang left, Mo Bufan and Kang Qiao discussed this highly regarded junior brother of the sect leader.
On this day, Jin Biao came alone to visit the poor children that he had been supporting for a long time at the Jishan Tang. Jia Chang'an and his wife lied that the children were all resting and showed him their account book to review. Jin Biao was illiterate and had never doubted them. Just as he was about to leave, the little girl Xiaoyu deliberately made a noise to attract attention. But under the threatening gaze of Jia Chang'an and his wife, Xiaoyu lowered her head and didn't dare to look at Jin Biao, remaining silent throughout. However, as soon as Jin Biao left, Jia beat Xiaoyu mercilessly and locked her in the woodshed until Jia Chang'an intervened to stop her. This couple pretended to accept money for helping orphans, but they were actually engaged in human trafficking. Jia threatened Xiaoyu that she would break her legs if she dared not to obey.
Due to Yun Xiang sending Shu Yanan to collect debts from merchants, he was left unprotected, and Zhang Kui took the opportunity to follow and track him. Yun Xiang sensed something was wrong and quickly lit firecrackers to resist for a moment before leading them to Mo Bufan's territory. In a critical moment, Mo Bufan and his adopted son Kang Qiao stepped forward to rescue Yun Xiang and quickly dealt with Zhang Kui. All of this was calculated by Yun Xiang. With the help of Shu Yanan, Yun Xiang successfully collected the merchants' debt receipts and thanked her by giving her a set of women's clothing. The next day, the auction at Liansheng Fang was held as scheduled, and Ke Menglan deliberately arranged to meet Su Mingyu and sent him clothes as an apology, thereby strengthening Su Mingyu's determination to buy Liansheng Fang.
Shu Yanan's reappearance in women's clothing was stunning, and Yun Xiang couldn't help but admire her. However, Jin Biao ruined the atmosphere. Later, the three arrived at Liansheng Fang and found that merchants of all sizes from the city had gathered there, and even the gambling industry leader Tang Xiao had attracted attention by bringing in skilled bodyguards. Qian Rong presided over the auction, and before it began, Su Mingyu appeared with three thousand silver tickets. Originally, Su Mingyu wanted to buy Liansheng Fang to save Ke Menglan, but Tang Xiao was determined to win it, and both sides quickly raised the bid, soon surpassing the price of three thousand two. In a hurry, Su Mingyu turned to Yun Xiang for help, and Yun Xiang was willing to lend him a thousand two with one percent interest, directly bidding for four thousand two silver.
However, based on the current market, the price of Liansheng Fang has already reached a high price of 4,000, but Tang Xiao stubbornly refused to accept it and raised the price to 4,500. The merchants present were in an uproar, and the atmosphere at the auction was pushed to the limit. This amount of money was also a limit for Su Mingyu. Suddenly, Yun Xiang proposed to bid for Liansheng Fang together with Su Mingyu, and eventually became the buyer with a bid of 6,000 taels of silver. Arrogant Tang Xiao felt that he had lost face and brought his skilled bodyguards to find Yun Xiang. After exchanging names, he and his bodyguards left Liansheng Fang. At the same time, the Caobang gang salvaged the body of Zhang Kui, whose fatal wound was a cut on the neck.
Qi Tianfeng arranged for his subordinates to give Zhang Kui a lavish burial. He learned from his steward that although Yun Xiang had superior body techniques, he had never revealed any martial arts skills. Yun Xiang was able to quickly gather a group of people to ambush and kill many of the killers from the Cao gang by himself, and to this day, no one knows the whereabouts of their bodies. It was precisely because the exact strength of Yun Xiang was still unclear that Qi Tianfeng sent someone to prepare 5,000 silver tickets to be sent to the Tang family's gambling house. Only by completely getting rid of Yun Xiang can he feel at ease.

Episode 5 Recap
As the change of ownership of Liansheng Lane's East House, the participating merchants in the auction dispersed one after another. Su Mingyu hosted a dinner at the tavern to thank the three heroes for their help. Su Mingyu took the initiative to talk about the two bodyguards around Tang Xiao, Ah Zhong and Mei Zhu. Although their identities were unreliable, there were many signs indicating that they came from Dongying and the extreme north of the Great Wall.
Due to Tang Xiao's extensive network of contacts, even though Ah Zhong committed the crime of killing several soldiers, he was still able to go about his business as usual. On the other hand, Mei Zhu had been practicing her unique skills all year round, with a domineering attack and a ghostly figure. Su Mingyu revealed that he had witnessed her being surrounded by enemies and had defeated them after just a few dozen moves.
Su Mingyu talked eloquently, piquing the interest of Shu Yanan and Jin Biao. However, Yun Xiang seemed uninterested until Shu Yanan suddenly asked Su Mingyu how he viewed Qi Tianfeng. Yun Xiang unconsciously looked at her. Su Mingyu did not notice anything strange and admitted that Qi Tianfeng's martial arts skills were indeed outstanding, but his old illness was affecting him and he was not as good as he used to be. Therefore, Su Mingyu promised that the three heroes would be protected by the Su family and would not be harmed.
However, Su Mingyu never expected that Yun Xiang did not have the three thousand taels of silver and therefore could not immediately complete the transaction. The rules of the Chamber of Commerce's auction require payment and signing of the contract within two days, otherwise the auction will be considered void. Su Mingyu was anxious, but Yun Xiang promised to gather the three thousand taels of silver in just one day. When this was said, all three present did not believe it, and Su Mingyu left the seat angrily.
On the way to Guanghui Inn, Yun Xiang reminded Shu Yanan not to mention Qi Tianfeng to Su Mingyu again, indicating that the Su family's status was coveted by Tang Xiao and would be of even greater use in the future. As the carriage shook, the two of them exchanged intimate glances and their feelings for each other began to change subtly.
Arriving at the entrance of Guanghui Village, Jin Biao made a bet with Yun Xiang. If Yun Xiang couldn't borrow 3,000 taels of silver this time, they would no longer owe each other. But if he succeeded in borrowing the money, Jin Biao would let him employ him as a bodyguard for a few more months. Later, Yun Xiang went to see Mo Bufan and was rejected when he presented the loan notes from the merchants. In the end, he promised to pay back ten times the amount borrowed and not only obtained the 3,000 taels of silver but also won the bet with Jin Biao, allowing him to continue to stay by his side as a bodyguard.
When Shu Yanan learned that Yun Xiang had to repay 30,000 taels of silver within a month, she was shocked. However, Yun Xiang had another matter that required her help. Meanwhile, Kang Qiao didn't understand Yun Xiang's actions. Although Mo Bufan had not yet figured it out, he knew that after this incident, they probably couldn't be friends anymore.
A restaurant waiter, entrusted by Jin Biao, went to deliver food to the children of Jishan Hall. He sensed something was amiss and, pretending to go to the toilet, investigated the backyard, where he unexpectedly discovered that Xiaoyu was being beaten and tortured. Just as the waiter was about to report the incident to the authorities, Jia Shi appeared behind him, killed him silently, and discussed with Jia Chang'an how to quickly resolve the trouble with Jin Biao.
After Su Mingyu successfully acquired Liansheng Lane, he confessed to his older sister that he truly loves Ke Menglan and plans to find a way to help her escape her lowly status. Although Su Huairou had opposed this relationship before, she now sees her brother's growth and determination and is willing to support the couple, on the condition that Su Mingyu studies commerce and takes over the Su family business.
That evening, Yun Xiang, Su Mingyu, and others arrived at Liansheng Lane. Su Mingyu took the opportunity to confide in Ke Menglan about his feelings. Ke Menglan, aware of their class difference, deliberately distanced herself and emphasized that they were only master and servant. Su Mingyu, feeling dejected, drank alone, and Yun Xiang came to the rooftop to talk with him.
Yun Xiang advised Su Mingyu that he could help Ke Menglan escape her lowly status without relying on the Su family. He suggested that they could reach out to Tang Xiao, a powerful figure in the entertainment industry, and if Su Mingyu trusts him, he can handle this matter. As they were talking, they suddenly saw flames in the distance, and it turned out to be the Su family residence.
Episode 6 Recap
A group of black-clad individuals infiltrated the Su mansion and set fire to the storehouse, causing a devastating loss of silk. Su Mingyu learned that some of the servants were still trapped inside the burning building and rushed in to save them, risking his own life. Upon hearing that Su Mingyu had returned safely, Ke Menglan breathed a sigh of relief.
However, in two months, the Ministry of Industry would have to submit tribute fabric to the Imperial Merchant, and it was currently the busiest season for production. With the loss of the silk, the Su family would face a great disaster. Su Mingyu went to see Ke Menglan, hoping for her concern, but was met with indifference, leaving him feeling disheartened.
Afterwards, Shu Yanan regretted listening to Yun Xiang's plan to set fire to the storehouse and angrily questioned him. Yun Xiang explained that he hoped to use the fire to lure in Qi Tianfeng, who had a grudge against him and also coveted the Su family's wealth.
Mo Bufan came to pick up Yun Xiang, and Shu Yanan was appeased. When alone with Mo Bufan, Yun Xiang expressed his doubts about Shu Yanan's background and asked for Mo Bufan's help in investigating.
Meanwhile, Su Mingyu, Su Huairou, and Qian Rong analyzed the cause of the fire and suspected that it was the doing of the Cao gang, who had previously clashed with the Su family. Su Huairou believed that there was not enough evidence to come to a conclusion, especially with rumors circulating about Tang Xiao's involvement.
Tang Xiao is the superior of Qi Tianfeng, and he intentionally left him waiting for a long time when he heard that Qi Tianfeng came to find him. As Yun Xiang expected, Qi Tianfeng wanted to take advantage of the situation and swallow up the Su family. At the same time, the Su family had to decide to go to Yangzhou again to purchase a large amount of raw silk. Qian Rong privately advised Su Mingyu to understand Su Huairou, but Su Mingyu directly pointed out that if her eldest sister was not the leader, she and Qian Rong would have been together long ago.
Tang Xiao mocked Qi Tianfeng for being more harm than good, and that he had caused himself trouble by failing to deal with Wen Cong in the past. Qi Tianfeng endured his anger and talked to Tang Xiao, willing to cede some land to him for building a brothel. Tang Xiao was satisfied and promised to help him get rid of Yun Xiang.
Mo Bufan sent Yun Xiang to meet the master of the Yun Tai Gate outside the city. However, the gate master only heard his voice and did not see him, blaming him for not following the orders of the chief commander of Yuezhou, but instead entering the capital without permission. He ordered him to return to the mountains to continue his training. Yun Xiang felt that once he gave up on his own goals, he could no longer understand what the world wanted, loved, or hated, let alone contribute to society and the country. Therefore, he believed that those who enter the Yun Tai Gate must have a heart like his, not being trapped by mundane desires. He came to the capital not only to seek revenge and repay his gratitude, but also to fulfill Wen Cong's regretful wish.
Because of this, the sect leader agreed to let Yun Xiang stay in the Southern Capital and reminded him not to be distracted and forget his mission. Furthermore, Qi Tianfeng's actions were not worth mentioning, and the real obstacle was the Southern Capital Chamber of Commerce. After meeting with the sect leader, Mo Bufan and Yun Xiang talked by the river, deepening their impressions of each other.
Meanwhile, Shu Yanan disguised herself as a black-clad attacker and attacked Kang Qiao with a poisoned hidden weapon, which slashed his face and also injured his left shoulder. Fortunately, Kang Qiao had the antidote and quickly informed Mo Bufan of the incident, describing the situation of the black-clad attacker. Yun Xiang listened thoughtfully, but Mo Bufan was annoyed that Yun Xiang had brought trouble upon himself.
That evening, Tang Xiao led a group of people to Liansheng Lane, but Ke Menglan personally negotiated and sent Tian Hu to inform Jin Biao to leave immediately. Ke Menglan said that Liansheng Lane had just changed its owner and was not yet open for business, so she ordered them to leave. Unexpectedly, Tang Xiao threatened Ke Menglan to go with him and boasted that he could make her a top courtesan.
Episode 7 Recap
As Tang Xiao was about to take Ke Menglan away, Shu Yanan and Jin Biao rushed out to stop him. Shu Yanan angrily accused Tang Xiao of conspiring with Qi Tianfeng, but Tang Xiao boasted that he dared to move Wen Cong because he had support that she couldn't even imagine. Due to Jin Biao's drunkenness, he was no match for the two skilled bodyguards, and Shu Yanan, who was already injured, gradually fell into a disadvantage.
At a critical moment, Yun Xiang stepped forward to stop Tang Xiao. Upon hearing this, Su Mingyu criticized Jin Biao for being useless and was instead beaten up by him. Shu Yanan never really understood Yun Xiang's true intentions and questioned him about what he wanted to do. Yun Xiang didn't give a direct answer, but he didn't conceal his concern for her.
Curious about the connection between Yun Xiang's defense of Liansheng Lane and revenge, Shu Yanan asked him directly. Instead of answering, Yun Xiang asked her how she knew Ling Yuan's martial arts. Shu Yanan casually revealed that she had saved one of Ling Yuan's disciples years ago and learned a half move from him. Yun Xiang did not comment on this and had his own answer in mind. As for his true purpose for coming to the southern capital this time, Yun Xiang told Shu Yanan that he wanted to break up the alliance between Qi Tianfeng and the Caobang and needed her assistance in doing so. He knew that business was all about debts, and since these merchants were unscrupulous, he saw no reason to treat them with respect. Instead, he planned to collect all the debts owed, and the success of this plan would depend on Shu Yanan's methods.
Jin Biao is a gambling addict and not skilled in gambling. He lost all his money to Ke Menglan and owed her sixty taels of silver. Just as Jin Biao questioned Su Mingyu's intentions for bringing him to the gambling house, Yun Xiang stepped in and gambled against Ke Menglan. He won back all the silver that Jin Biao had lost in one game. Afterwards, to repay Yun Xiang, Jin Biao offered to kill someone for him at half price. Yun Xiang allowed Jin Biao to stay by his side as a bodyguard and paid him daily. Watching as Liansheng Lane was about to be auctioned off, Ke Menglan felt uneasy and worried that the change of ownership of the gambling house would leave her and her sisters homeless. Su Mingyu saved up three thousand taels of silver to participate in the auction of Liansheng Lane, claiming that he would not let Ke Menglan become homeless. However, he had made such promises before but had failed to keep them, and Ke Menglan no longer had any hope. She admitted that she was of humble birth and unworthy of him.
Due to Yun Xiang sending Shu Yanan to collect debts from merchants, he had no one to protect him and Zhang Kui took the opportunity to follow and track him. Yun Xiang noticed something was amiss and quickly lit firecrackers to resist for a moment before leading them to Mo Bufan's territory. In a critical moment, Mo Bufan and his son Kang Qiao came out to rescue them, skillfully disposing of Zhang Kui, all of which was calculated by Yun Xiang. With the help of Shu Yanan, Yun Xiang successfully collected the debt receipts from the merchants and as a gesture of gratitude, gave her a set of women's clothing. The next day, the auction at Liansheng Alley proceeded as planned. Ke Menglan intentionally arranged to meet Su Mingyu and sent people to give him clothes as an apology, thus strengthening Su Mingyu's determination to buy Liansheng Alley.
Shu Yanan's new female attire was impressive, and Yun Xiang couldn't help but be amazed by her beauty. The compliments were endless until Jin Biao ruined the atmosphere. Later, the three of them arrived at Liansheng Lane and found that all the merchants in the city had gathered there, including the gambling tycoon Tang Xiao and his skilled bodyguards. Qian Rong presided over the auction, and just before it started, Su Mingyu appeared with three thousand silver bills. Originally, Su Mingyu wanted to buy Liansheng Lane to save Ke Menglan, but Tang Xiao was determined to acquire it. They kept bidding until the price surpassed 3,000 taels of silver. In desperation, Su Mingyu turned to Yun Xiang for help, who was willing to lend him one percent interest to borrow one thousand taels of silver. Yun Xiang directly bid for four thousand taels of silver.
Episode 8 Recap
Yun Xiang and Shu Yanan realized that there was something wrong with Jishan Hall, and after investigating secretly, they discovered that Jia Chang'an and his wife were involved in dirty deals. It turned out that every month, Jishan Hall sent someone to collect children. Girls were sold as thin horses, and boys were sold as servants. Shu Yanan believed that since someone went to buy regularly, there must be fixed business between the upstream and downstream. Qi Tianfeng never dealt with the business of human trafficking and fireworks, but he had no choice but to accept it.
Shu Yanan noticed that Yun Xiang was staring blankly at a finger ring, and every time she asked, he would cover up or change the subject. Shu Yanan felt that Yun Xiang was hiding too many secrets, and he was no different from Jin Biao, Su Mingyu, and others. Even though the rules of the Yun Tai gate prohibit getting involved in love and hatred, what is the point of keeping memories without love and hate?
Mo Bufan brought Yun Xiang to meet the Yun Tai Sect Master in the outskirts, but the Master only heard his voice and didn't see him, blaming him for not obeying the orders of the commander-in-chief of Yuezhou and instead trespassing into Nandu, and forcing him to return to the mountain to continue his cultivation. Yun Xiang felt that once Mo Bufan gave up his worldly desires, he could no longer understand the desires, loves, and hates of ordinary people, let alone contribute to the society and the country. Therefore, he believed that those who entered the Yun Tai Sect must keep their worldly desires in mind, but not be trapped by them. He came to Nandu not only to seek revenge and repay kindness, but also to fulfill Congwen's regretful wish.
Because of this, the Sect Master agreed to let Yun Xiang stay in Nandu, but reminded him not to be distracted, and not to forget the mission of the Sect. Besides, what Qi Tianfeng did was not worth mentioning, the real obstacle was the Nandu Chamber of Commerce. After meeting with the Sect Master, Mo Bufan and Yun Xiang talked by the river, deepening their impressions of each other.
On the other side, Shu Yanan disguised herself as a black-clothed person and attacked Kang Qiao. A poisoned hidden weapon cut his face, and he also wounded her left shoulder. Luckily, Kang Qiao had an antidote with him and promptly informed Mo Bufan about the incident, describing the situation of the black-clothed person. Yun Xiang listened thoughtfully, but Mo Bufan was angry that Yun Xiang had brought disaster upon him.
That evening, Tang Xiao led everyone to Liansheng Alley in a grand manner. Ke Menglan personally negotiated and sent Tianhu to inform Jin Biao to leave quickly. Ke Menglan explained that Liansheng Alley had just changed ownership and was not yet open for business, so she ordered them to leave. Unexpectedly, Tang Xiao threatened Ke Menglan to go back with him, saying that he could make her a top prostitute in the brothel.
Jin Biao was fond of gambling but not good at it. He lost all his money to Ke Menglan in a row, owing a total of sixty taels of gold. Just as Jin Biao was questioning the intention of Su Mingyu bringing him to the gambling house, Yun Xiang stepped in and gambled against Ke Menglan. In just one round, he helped Jin Biao win back the silver he had lost. Afterward, to repay Yun Xiang, Jin Biao offered to kill someone for half the price. Yun Xiang, on the other hand, allowed Jin Biao to stay by his side as a bodyguard and paid him a daily salary.
As she watched Liansheng Lane about to be auctioned off, Ke Menglan felt uneasy and worried that the change of ownership of the gambling house would leave her and her sisters without a place to live. Su Mingyu saved up three thousand taels of silver to participate in the auction and claimed that he would not let Ke Menglan become homeless. However, he had made similar promises in the past but failed to keep them, and Ke Menglan no longer had any hope, admitting that she was born lowly and did not deserve someone like him.
Due to Yun Xiang sending Shu Yanan to collect debts from the merchants, he was unprotected and Zhang Kui took the opportunity to follow and track him. Yun Xiang sensed something was amiss and quickly lit fireworks to resist for a moment, then led them to Mo Bufan's territory. In a critical moment, Mo Bufan and his adopted son Kang Qiao came forward to save the day, skillfully taking care of Zhang Kui, all of which was calculated by Yun Xiang. With the help of Shu Yanan, Yun Xiang successfully collected the debt certificates from the merchants and thanked her by giving her a set of women's clothing. The next day, the auction at Liansheng Fang was held as scheduled. Ke Menglan deliberately arranged a chance encounter with Su Mingyu, and sent clothes as an apology to him, thereby strengthening Su Mingyu's determination to buy Liansheng Fang.
Shu Yanan's change of clothes was eye-catching, and Yun Xiang couldn't hide his admiration for her stunning appearance. The praises were endless, but Jin Biao ruined the atmosphere. Later, the three of them arrived at Liansheng Lane and found that all the merchants in the city had gathered here, with the gambling head Tang Xiao and his skilled guards attracting attention. Qian Rong acted as the host for the auction. Just before it started, Su Mingyu appeared with three thousand silver tickets. Originally, Su Mingyu wanted to bid for Liansheng Lane to save Ke Menglan, but Tang Xiao was determined to acquire it, and the two sides kept raising the bid, quickly surpassing 3,000 taels of silver. In a hurry, Su Mingyu turned to Yun Xiang for help, and Yun Xiang agreed to lend him one percent interest, giving him one thousand taels of silver to directly bid for 4,000 taels of silver.
Episode 9 Recap
Su Huairou saw that her younger brother was unusually concerned about the Su family's business, so she handed over the deed to him and was willing to bet all of the family's assets on it. Yun Xiang greatly admired Su Huairou's courage. With the gradual stabilization of the price of southern silk in the market, Qian Rong's revelation to the merchants that someone was hoarding goods and causing high prices seemed hypocritical. The Su family had a responsibility to stabilize the prices and continue to trade at two taels per jin. Su Mingyu promised to personally transport the raw silk back and hire the four major escort agencies to accompany them.
Within a day, 70% of the 80,000 raw silk deeds were sold, causing the price of raw silk to skyrocket. The news spread like wildfire. Once the Su family's raw silk was back, the price of southern silk in the market would return to normal. Qi Tianfeng, who had hoarded a huge amount of raw silk, intended to take over the Su family. Naturally, he would not let them succeed easily. Ding Yi truthfully reported to Yun Xiang about his visit to the Su family last night. He suspected that this scheme was more likely to have come from Yun Xiang's hand. Although Qi Tianfeng was unhappy, he still invited Yun Xiang to meet with him. Su Mingyu wanted to accompany Yun Xiang, but was refused by Ding Yi. Yun Xiang remained calm and comforted Su Mingyu not to worry. He believed that the more dangerous the situation was, the more interesting it would become.
Later, Yun Xiang went to the meeting alone and was unexpectedly ambushed by Qi Tianfeng. The two engaged in a fight, each probing the other's skills. Yun Xiang discovered that Qi Tianfeng had profound internal strength, and Qi Tianfeng also detected flaws in his techniques. So, he deliberately mentioned Wen Cong and hinted that Yun Xiang wanted both the Su family and the Cao gang to suffer losses, but Yun Xiang remained calm and only answered with a yes or no.
Qi Tianfeng said that if the Su family admits defeat now, they would at most lose the reputation of their business or their title as a royal merchant. But selling the ticket would mean gambling on the Su family's century-old foundation, which also means that Yun Xiang would be driving the Su family to a dead end. However, Yun Xiang did not agree with Qi Tianfeng's words and left after exchanging a few words. Later, he realized that his jade finger ring was lost at the restaurant, and he was very upset. At the same time, Qi Tianfeng picked up the ring and carefully examined it. The word "Luo" was engraved on it, which made him realize that Yun Xiang was actually from the Luo family. He must have come to the southern capital for revenge. Therefore, in the next action, Qi Tianfeng emphasized that in addition to being wary of the Su family, they also need to pay extra attention to Yun Xiang's movements.
Because the Su family's caravan is leaving tomorrow, Su Huairou declined her brother's request to escort the goods. But Su Mingyu had already promised and Yun Xiang thought it would be fine, especially since Shu Yanan and Jin Biao would accompany him and ensure his safety. That night, Jin Biao raised his price, not for money, but to ask Yun Xiang to help find the child who was sold. He also wanted to start a school in Liansheng Lane, responsible for the daily expenses of the children. If they succeed, they can make a living on their own, but if they don't, they can work in the gambling house.
Yun Xiang naturally had no objection and knew that Jin Biao and Shu Yanan had already discussed it. Seeing that Yun Xiang was uneasy, Shu Yanan bravely sneaked into the Qi family's mansion to help him find the jade finger ring, and she successfully retrieved it from Qi Tianfeng's hand with great difficulty. Qi Tianfeng asked Shu Yanan to tell Yun Xiang that if he did not help the Su family this time, he would tell him everything about the past of the Luo family.
By the latter half of the night, Shu Yanan returned the jade ring to its rightful owner, Yun Xiang, and passed along a message from Qi Tianfeng. While Yun Xiang complained about Shu Yanan's actions potentially jeopardizing their plans, he was actually deeply moved and didn't express his gratitude to her. Shu Yanan felt frustrated and went to pack her things. After giving it some thought, Yun Xiang went to find Shu Yanan again and hugged her, relieved that she returned safely. He realized he would have regretted it for the rest of his life if something had happened to her.
Qi Tianfeng knew that the Su family's silk trade had only three options: canal transport, sea transport, or road transport. With him guarding the canal, sea transport was impossible, and road transport could be stopped by setting up bandits, preventing the silk from entering the capital. As a result, the Su family would go bankrupt. He started to buy up a large amount of futures contracts, thinking he had the upper hand. Yun Xiang also took action and immediately went to see Mo Bufan, offering to give him valuable land and industries in exchange for Mo Bufan's help in protecting the smooth passage of the silk trade into the capital and recovering the orphans from Jishan Hall. Soon, Qi Tianfeng also found Mo Bufan and wanted to borrow money to speculate on futures contracts, offering to put up all the assets of the canal gang as collateral and give Mo Bufan a monthly cut of the profits. Although Mo Bufan was a fellow disciple of Yun Xiang's, he was ultimately a businessman and had to weigh which side's interests were greater and more beneficial to Guanghui Village.
Episode 10 Recap
Since the sale of the silk contract in the market, the price of silk has steadily fallen. Su Mingyu had no servants following him, so he naturally had to wash his own clothes. But just as he hung up his clothes, Shu Yanan informed him that they would be leaving in an hour. Seeing this, Jin Biao couldn't help but chuckle and comforted him, saying that a real man doesn't sweat the small stuff, and even if his clothes are dirty, he can still wear them.
Su Huairou invited Kou Yan into the mansion and asked her how much the price of silk in the southern capital could be lowered with the sale of 80,000 pounds of silk contracts. Kou Menglan believed that spot prices would make merchants more at ease, so the market price of silk would continue to fall, possibly down to four taels of silver per pound. It was precisely because Kou Menglan was so knowledgeable about business that Su Huairou had a newfound appreciation for her and asked her to keep an eye on Yun Xiang's movements and report any anomalies immediately.
Qi Tianfeng was determined to win and began to plan to change his old house. He also provided new clothes for his brothers and was eager to move. On the other hand, the Su family's commercial convoy encountered repeated dangers during their three-day journey. First, there was a spy planted in the team, and then they were harassed by night attacks, leaving them exhausted and surrounded by enemies. This was because the Su family promised to return the raw silk and fulfill their promise to the merchants within fifteen days, otherwise they would lose their position as the head of the Nan Du Commercial Association, and even be bankrupt.
Due to the troubles on the way back to the city, Su Mingyu became more and more uneasy. Shu Yanan felt that this was not a long-term solution, so she suggested that everyone hold on for another night and rest at a nearby abandoned inn the next day. Yun Xiang inquired about the situation of the merchant group from Kang Qiao every day and felt that something was amiss. Kang Qiao said that since he had a fishing rod in his hand, there was no need to worry about the safety of the bait. The outcome was near, and they just needed to be patient. Qi Tianfeng heard that the merchant group was heading towards the inn and was confident in catching them like fish in a barrel. Shu Yanan knew the problems with the inn and informed the heads of each escort team to deploy a plan. Considering the limited time and the strength of the bandits, it would be of no use to continue to consume resources. Rather than just defending, they decided to take the initiative to attack and split their forces to transfer the enemy's strength.
Shu Yanan arranged half of the family servants to exchange clothing with the escorts, seemingly forming two teams to transport the goods, but in reality, one team was entirely composed of family servants while the other consisted of all escorts. Zheng, the leader of the escorts, was responsible for the team of family servants, and together with others, they made noise in one direction while Shu Yanan and Jin Biao each led a team of their own. Only Su Mingyu stayed behind at the inn to take care of the raw silk. Despite the danger, there was still a glimmer of hope. Shu Yanan, Jin Biao, and the others were ambushed and fought fiercely, shedding blood.
Meanwhile, on the other side, a badly wounded family servant managed to escape back to the inn. Under severe torture, he revealed the location of the raw silk. When the last wave of remaining bandits stormed into the inn, Su Mingyu bravely picked up a sword for the first time and fought back, splattered with blood, but overwhelmed by emotions.
At this critical moment, Shu Yanan and Jin Biao rushed to the scene and found the inn strewn with corpses, but fortunately, Su Mingyu was unharmed. Jin Biao could see that Su Mingyu was almost scared out of his wits, so he sprayed some white wine onto his face until he gradually came to his senses and talked about his own experience of killing, feeling very uneasy in his heart.
Jin Biao comforted Su Mingyu to rest well and gave some medical treatment to the wounded. Although they had been fighting tirelessly during the day, there were still bandits knocking on the door at night. The caravan had already suffered heavy casualties and had no chance of winning. Seeing that the gate was about to be broken open, Shu Yanan and Jin Biao could no longer sit still and stood with their remaining guards in the courtyard, ready to fight back. Su Mingyu listened to the noise outside and gradually regained his clarity and determination. He clenched his long sword and walked into the courtyard, determined to have a fierce fight with the bandits.
Unexpectedly, Qi Tianfeng's subordinate Xie Guang had dug a tunnel leading to the place where the raw silk was stored. When everyone was caught off guard, he lit a big fire and burned all the raw silk. By the time Shu Yanan and others realized what was happening, it was too late. The raging fire destroyed tens of thousands of raw silk, and Su Mingyu collapsed in despair.
Episode 11 Recap
In the middle of the night, the black-clothed men broke in and grabbed Yun Xiang by the neck, despite his struggling being useless. Ke Menglan saw Su Mingyu covered in blood and couldn't help but feel heartbroken for him. Just as she was about to reach out, he took a step back and self-mockingly said that Ke Menglan had surely never seen him in such a state, and reassured her not to worry, as they were just minor injuries.
Yun Xiang went to see Shu Yanan and caught her coming out of a bath, causing him to freeze in place. During this time, Yun Xiang gradually came to realize his feelings and mustered the courage to confess his love to Shu Yanan. Shu Yanan reminded him that as a member of the Yun Tai, he couldn't afford to get emotional. However, Yun Xiang didn't care at all and had already developed feelings for her since their meeting in Baiju Town. In the end, Shu Yanan took the initiative to kiss Yun Xiang.
Episode 12 Recap
Qi Tianfeng had all the industries of the Caobang faction in Guanghui Zhuang, not realizing that he had fallen into a trap set by Yun Xiang and Mo Bufan. As a result, when Qi Tianfeng realized it was too late, Yun Xiang came in from outside and accused him that when he wanted to silence Wen Cong, he did not consider giving Wen Cong a way out. However, Yun Xiang was no match for Qi Tianfeng and was quickly defeated.
Later, Qi Tianfeng fled Nan Du and his whereabouts were unknown. Su Huairou suddenly came to the door and mentioned Shu Yanan's willingness to risk her life to protect the escort, suggesting that she must have had some unknown past experiences that led her to feel compassion. Shu Yanan was angered by Su Huairou's insinuations and urged him to speak directly. In fact, Su Huairou had already suspected that Shu Yanan was the orphan of the Shu family.
Episode 13 Recap
Currently, Qi Tianfeng is like a stray dog, hiding everywhere. Su Mingyu cannot understand why someone as ruthless as him has so many followers willing to follow him to their deaths. Even in the face of death, Xie Guangning refuses to betray Qi Tianfeng, mocking Su Mingyu as a coward and telling him to give himself a break.
Ke Menglan personally delivers clothes to Su Mingyu, repairing the patterns stained with blood, and advises him not to worry about what happened before. Su Huairou is relieved to see her brother acting calmly and bravely in front of Ke Menglan and orders Qian Rong to free Ke Menglan from her lowly status. Qian Rong admires Su Huairou even more when he hears this, as she can set aside her family background and accept such a woman as a daughter-in-law, showing a broad mind and vision beyond the average person.
At this time, Xie Guang uses a fragment to cut the rope and prepares to escape. He meets Ke Menglan and immediately takes her hostage to threaten Su Mingyu. However, Su Mingyu seems to have changed, coldly stating that he has killed before. After speaking, he quickly disarms Xie Guang and, with Ke Menglan's persuasion, suppresses the urge to kill, and lets him go.
Although Mo Bufan had already found Qi Tianfeng's hiding place, Qi Tianfeng's martial arts were outstanding and not something an ordinary expert could handle. Yun Xiang came this time to borrow strength and wanted to use the experts around Mo Bufan. The two of them went together to catch Qi Tianfeng and incidentally analyze the advantages of Qi Tianfeng's hiding place at the pier. Suddenly they realized that Qi Tianfeng was well prepared and probably had already contacted the expert in charge of the reception.
Shu Yanan and Jin Biao led everyone to Qi Tianfeng's hiding place, with Jin Biao shouting and cursing outside the door, trying to force Qi Tianfeng out. As Yun Xiang had expected, Qi Tianfeng privately contacted Guan Hai, who was a well-known pirate and would only recognize money. Shu Yanan wanted to indicate her relationship with Liu Haizhu, the leader of the Three Oceans and Seven Islands, in a unique way that pirates understand. According to the rules, anyone who has a blood bond can make any request, but Liu Haizhu had already been wiped out by Guan Hai and would not acknowledge it.
Just as Jin Biao and Shu Yanan were losing to Guan Hai and Qi Tianfeng was about to escape, Mo Bufan and Yun Xiang suddenly appeared. Because Guan Hai looked like a bandit, he immediately switched sides when he heard the bargaining chip Mo Bufan offered. Yun Xiang negotiated with Qi Tianfeng, who had nowhere to run and had to surrender. Qi Tianfeng hoped that Yun Xiang would spare his brothers and then disabled his martial arts after saying so.
After Qi Tianfeng woke up, he truthfully confessed to Yun Xiang that the truth about Luo Family Village being destroyed. He admitted that he was only an accomplice in the tragedy and not the mastermind. He knew that the mastermind was related to Tang Xiao, but Tang Xiao was not the one who gave the order. However, Qi Tianfeng did not know who gave the order and was indifferent to the matter. He failed to inform Wen Cong in time, which resulted in the death of over three hundred people overnight.
When Qi Tianfeng learned that Tang Xiao had hired Guan Hai to kill him for a large sum of money, he felt completely hopeless. Although they were not close friends, they had cooperated for many years. He didn't expect that at the critical moment, he would be the first one to push him away. Qi Tianfeng was ready to die to atone for his sins. He informed Shu's Escort Bureau in advance that the destruction of their family was plotted by Wen Cong himself. As the head of the Escort Bureau, Wen Cong wanted to expand his power and would naturally not hesitate to use harsh means. Even his subordinates could prove these things.
Therefore, Wen Cong destroyed the Shu's Escort Bureau and then adopted Shu's orphaned daughter as his own. Rather than saying that he was cruel and ruthless, Shu Yanan also saw him as her father's killer. Shu Yanan was initially unable to accept this fact, but she still believed that Qi Tianfeng did not lie. After all, there was no need for a dying person to do so.
After Qi Tianfeng finished his explanation, he closed his eyes and waited for Shu Yanan to make her move. Yun Xiang stood by and silently watched. Shu Yanan drew her knife and walked towards Qi Tianfeng. In the end, she decided to spare Qi Tianfeng. Instead of letting him die so easily, she chose to let him live like a mourning dog.
Episode 14 Recap
Shu Yanan was about to go find Yun Xiang when she suddenly saw Mo Bufan hurriedly leaving with him. While waiting for the Sect Master's summons again, Yun Xiang recalled Wen Cong's advice to him, "Use wisdom as your foundation and intelligence as your body." It was only now that he fully understood the meaning behind it.
As Wen Cong said, the phrase "mindset" has the character "heart" before "technique," so one must have a pure heart and righteous spirit. If the character "heart" comes after "technique," one will inevitably become a deceitful and arrogant person over time. Mo Bufan lamented that Qi Tianfeng was too greedy. The Caobang was originally stable, but because of his desire to swallow up the Su family, they fell into this situation. All things in the world are bitter when one seeks them, but strong when one has no desires. In fact, he deserved the punishment he received.
The Sect Master questioned why Yun Xiang didn't take down the Su family as soon as possible, but instead let them earn a lot of money. Yun Xiang thought about the interests of the sect and felt that they didn't need to be fixated on controlling the business world. By partnering with the Su family, they appeared to be protecting them, but in reality, they were protecting the people of the southern capital and upholding the Yun Tai's principles. Yun Xiang was eloquent in his defense, but the Sect Master may have already been angered by his actions and he may suffer in the future according to Yun Xiang's speculation.
Although Mo Bufan was timid in front of the sect leader, speaking cautiously with every sentence, he immediately straightened up and felt like a new man when the sect leader left. This was because Mo Bufan had been in the business world for many years and had seen too much deceit and trickery. He appreciated someone like Yun Xiang, who was intelligent yet still had a humane touch, and that was why he repeatedly chose to help him.
Mo Bufan was curious whether Yun Xiang, who only lived for revenge and ignored all emotions, felt that it was not worth it. Yun Xiang did not confirm or deny it and returned alone to Liansheng Alley. When he heard his companions talking behind his back, saying that he was cunning and had no plans, he felt disheartened. He also thought that Shu Yanan had already avenged herself, so there was no reason for her to stay with him, which made him even more sad.
When Shu Yanan saw Yun Xiang's back as he left, she hurriedly caught up with him and pulled him onto a painted boat to drink. She announced that she had already avenged herself and was willing to continue to follow Yun Xiang until Tang Xiao was completely removed. Yun Xiang was deeply moved and confessed that he did not want to be as selfish as he had been in the past, for fear of ending up with no one to rely on. That night, Yun Xiang got very drunk, and he carried her back while listening to her drunken chatter all the way.
The next morning, Yun Xiang called Ke Menglan and Shu Yanan. Yun Xiang began to plan how to deal with Tang Xiao and arranged for the opening of a casino. He promoted Ke Menglan to manager, admiring her business acumen and attitude towards life. Ke Menglan listened as Yun Xiang talked about upgrading the hardware facilities of the casino, and while she thought his ideas were great, the problem was that these facilities required a large amount of money. Yun Xiang asked for the specific amount of silver, promising to find a way to raise the money today.
Afterwards, Yun Xiang deliberately sent Shu Yanan away and personally approached Jin Biao to try to trick him into gambling. Shu Yanan appeared in time to expose his plot. Jin Biao suddenly realized the truth. He heard that Yun Xiang urgently needed money, so he immediately took out all of his capital, but asked Yun Xiang to pay back ten times the amount. Just then, Kang Qiao arrived with a rescued girl named Ling'er at the Liansheng District.
Jin Biao was grateful, but when he heard Kang Qiao say that most of the children had been trafficked and their whereabouts were unknown, he felt sad. It was precisely because he was concerned about the safety of the children that Jin Biao lowered the promised interest rate from ten percent to three percent, and pleaded with Yun Xiang and Kang Qiao to help find the other children as soon as possible.
Qian Rong was planning to help Ke Menglan leave her lowly status, but he unexpectedly found out that someone had already taken her documents from the registration office. Su Huairou advised Qian Rong not to spread the news, especially to keep it secret from Su Mingyu. Soon after, Su Huairou brought Su Mingyu to reveal to him all that Yun Xiang had done and reminded him to treat Yun Xiang honestly in the future, in order to ensure the safety of the Su family.
Just as Qi Tianfeng's injuries were improving and he was preparing to lead his brothers to seek revenge in Bashu, Guan Hai, suddenly arrived and killed all of his brothers, including Ding Yi. Because Qi Tianfeng was old and his martial arts skills were completely destroyed, Guan Hai did not kill him but set fire to the place before leaving. Qi Tianfeng, devastated by the death of his brothers, made a solemn vow to make Tang Xiao pay for his blood debts and left while dragging his sick body.
Episode 15 Recap
Upon hearing that Yun Xiang declared he wanted to become the number one gambling house in Jiangnan, the gatekeeper immediately summoned Mo Bufan to question him about the reason. Mo Bufan truthfully explained that Yun Xiang's intention was to provoke Tang Xiao and lure him into a trap. As long as Tang Xiao died, Yun Xiang could occupy the top position in the gambling industry, control the most profitable business in the world, and consider the interests of Yun Tai gate. However, the gatekeeper was worried that Yun Xiang's ambition was too great and he would be completely out of control. Therefore, he ordered Mo Bufan to keep an eye on Yun Xiang and report any suspicious behavior in a timely manner.
Under Ke Menglan's management, Liansheng Gambling House was now completely renovated and much more attractive to customers than before. Su Mingyu received guidance from her older sister and came to show her respect to Yun Xiang. She was impressed that he had defeated Qi Tianfeng in such a short time and felt unworthy of herself, begging him to take her as his apprentice.
Yun Xiang naturally could not violate the rules of Yun Tai gate, so he could not take her as an apprentice. However, he could teach her everything he knew and help her in every possible way, as they were already friends. Because of Yun Xiang's promise, Su Mingyu was relieved, and Yun Xiang noticed the workers nearby were acting strangely, so he deliberately revealed loudly that he spent a lot of money to renovate Liansheng Gambling House. His goal was to become the leader of the gambling industry and leave Tang Xiao with no place to stand in the southern city.
Later, the scout passed on the news to Tang Xiao. Regardless of the authenticity of the news, Tang Xiao was not going to sit idly by. He decided to take the initiative and start by targeting the wings around Yun Xiang. Jin Biao was the first one to be tricked by Tang Xiao. He was sure that Jin Biao couldn't bear to see an orphan suffer, so he used a desperate strategy to lure him in.
Although Ah Zhong and Mei Zhu were not Jin Biao's opponents, the two were good at using poison and tricks. This caused Jin Biao's eyes to be blinded by the poison and he lost his internal strength and was captured. At the same time, a man claimed to have been sent by Yun Xiang to deliver tea, but the tea was laced with a mind-controlling poison called "Shi Xin San," which made Tian Hu his undercover agent in Liansheng Fang.
Soon, Tang Xiao personally came to find Ke Menglan and brought her a discharge document, threatening her to obey his commands or he would burn the document, making it impossible for her to ever be discharged. Ke Menglan wanted to marry Su Mingyu and needed this document. If the document was destroyed, she would never have a chance to be free. Ke Menglan faced a dilemma and was eventually forced to become Tang Xiao's insider.
Yun Xiang secretly sent Shu Yanan to monitor Menglan in Liansheng Lane. He paid close attention to Tang Xiao's one-hour stay in Ke Menglan's room and already knew the situation without further investigation. In fact, Yun Xiang could understand Menglan's choice. After all, getting rid of the lowly status was most important to them. However, Shu Yanan chose to trust Ke Menglan.
After Jin Biao woke up, Tang Xiao forced him to reveal Yun Xiang's plan. Jin Biao said he only played the role of a hired assassin, and that the real backbone of the plan was Su Mingyu and Shu Yanan. Tang Xiao tried to buy Jin Biao with a large sum of money to use him for his own purposes, but was refused. Jin Biao said he wouldn't do it even if he was given ten thousand taels of silver.
While they were talking, Ye Xiao, from the Ling Yuan sect, found Tang Xiao. It turned out that Tang Xiao had colluded with Ye Xiao and often helped Ling Yuan wash their black money. Ling Yuan had a deep feud with Yun Xiang and hated him to the bone. Ye Xiao reminded Tang Xiao that if he defeated Yun Xiang, he would give him a very generous reward.
On this night, Ke Menglan sat under the lamp and read the letter that Su Mingyu had written to her. His affectionate words made her unable to hold back her tears. After much consideration, Ke Menglan finally left her room and went to the gambling table in the front hall. She tampered with each table, thinking that no one would notice, but she was being monitored by Tian Hu. Even Yun Xiang knew about this.
Episode 16 Recap
Soon, the grand opening of Liansheng Fang attracted a lot of people, with decorations and lights attracting a crowd of onlookers, and guests streaming in like fish. Su Mingyu greeted the visitors at the entrance of Liansheng Fang, while Su Huairou was busy with Gongbu and sent Qian Rong to deliver a congratulatory gift. When he heard that Jin Biao was not present today, he couldn't help feeling surprised, especially since there had been no news from him for several days, planting a seed of doubt in his heart.
Just as Su Mingyu was preparing to inform Yun Xiang of this matter, unexpectedly, Tang Xiao arrived with a group of people, presenting Jin Biao's sword as a gift. Su Mingyu angrily questioned Tang Xiao about where Jin Biao was hiding, but Tang Xiao didn't pay him any attention and instead spoke with Yun Xiang, mocking his cold nature. He knew that Jin Biao was still busy with the opening preparations despite being imprisoned, but didn't mention anything about his safety, clearly being in the same category as Wen Cong.
Yun Xiang was not angered by him, but instead used his gambling habits to propose a bet of three rounds to determine the winner. Tang Xiao immediately agreed, putting up half of his estate as collateral. The terms of the bet were that if Yun Xiang lost, he would become a slave in Tang Xiao's household. Yun Xiang readily agreed and used the excuse of writing the bet agreement to secretly inform Shu Yanan to quickly find out Jin Biao's whereabouts.
Considering Tang Xiao's treacherous nature, Yun Xiang warned Shu Yanan to remember that their mission was to determine whether Jin Biao was safe and not to take unnecessary risks. He also advised her to protect herself, as he had already planned for every contingency. Although Shu Yanan complained about Yun Xiang being too talkative, she was secretly overjoyed and touched by his concern. Yun Xiang couldn't help but kiss her as he watched her brave and heroic figure.
In the dungeon, Jin Biao learned that Tian Hu was also under Tang Xiao's control and was devastated. He swore to kill Tang Xiao at all costs. Shu Yanan infiltrated Tang Xiao's mansion and found the dungeon, where she saw many young girls who were imprisoned and suffered from daily abuse, leaving them broken and mentally unstable.
Shu Yanan opened the cell door, but some of the girls were too scared to step out. Fortunately, Shu Yanan didn't waste too much time and quickly found Jin Biao. However, the place where Jin Biao was being held was heavily guarded. Just as she broke the lock on the door, it triggered a mechanism that caused Jin Biao to fall into a cellar. The cellar door closed tightly, and a thick poisonous fog filled the area.
Seeing this scene, Shu Yanan quickly covered her nose with a prepared cloth and arrows flew around her. With her agile movements, she escaped at a lightning-fast speed, even confusing those who had set the traps. It was amazing that she was able to escape the poisonous fog. Since Shu Yanan didn't have a good chance of winning, she had to retreat to Liansheng Lane. At this moment, Yun Xiang and Tang Xiao were already gambling in public.
In the first round, Tang Xiao played unexpectedly and grabbed a maid by the neck, asking if Yun Xiang knew if the person could live to be eighteen. This question was cruel and treated human life as a joke. Yun Xiang had to endure it in order to save the maid's life. Qian Rong and Mo Bufan, who were watching on the second floor, cursed Tang Xiao for his despicable and shameless actions.
Tang Xiaoneng came to compete with Yun Xiang and was well prepared. In the second round, it was Yun Xiang's turn to guess the word. He and Su Mingyu had prepared in advance and cooperated with each other. They guessed the word "winter" that Tang Xiaoneng wrote. Ke Menglan took out a note from the box to confirm Yun Xiang's guess and let everyone present witness it. Tang Xiaoneng's face changed dramatically. He knew that Yun Xiang must have cheated, but he couldn't find any evidence.
Shu Yanan earnestly requested that Mo Bufan send a shadow to watch the dungeon of Tang Xiaoneng's mansion to prevent Jin Biao from being transferred there. Mo Bufan learned that Shu Yanan was poisoned but unharmed and was somewhat skeptical of what she said. Facing Mo Bufan's doubt, Shu Yanan explained that she had taken an antidote beforehand and could hold on for a while. Mo Bufan did not continue to question her and sent his men to watch Tang's mansion.
Meanwhile, Ke Menglan observed Tian Hu calmly and found that she seemed even more abnormal. So far, the two had fought to a tie and quickly came to the crucial third round. Tang Xiaoneng was afraid that Yun Xiang would cheat, so he sat next to him. Yun Xiang proposed to compete with Tang Xiaoneng on the future three-day revenue of two gambling houses. Su Mingyu was surprised to hear this, but Tang Xiaoneng readily accepted the challenge. After all, his Tang family had many famous stores, and he was sure to win this round.
Episode 17 Recap
Ke Menglan knows very well that Yun Xiang is unconventional in his swordsmanship. The game this time is extremely dangerous, and the outcome is still unknown. In fact, Tang Xiao has arranged many spies in the Liansheng Lane. Therefore, Su Mingyu reminded Ke Menglan to be cautious for the next three days. The two sides are competing in business operations, equivalent to Yun Xiang handing over all his property and life to her.
After some greetings, Su Mingyu got up to say goodbye. Ke Menglan noticed that Tian Hu's behavior has been suspicious recently and deliberately suggested that she share a room with her, but was refused by Tian Hu. That night, Tian Hu sneaked out of Liansheng Lane, and Ke Menglan followed her and saw her enter Tang Xiao's mansion alone.
In order to make Jin Biao his own, Tang Xiao specifically brought Tian Hu to the dungeon. Jin Biao questioned Tian Hu why she treated Ke Menglan, who was like a sister, like this. Tang Xiao mocked that Ke Menglan was the only traitor in their circle, while Tian Hu was only affected by the obsession powder, which caused her to behave that way.
Tian Hu reported to Tang Xiao that Yun Xiang was able to successfully solve the problem because he mixed iron powder into the ink today, so no matter what word he wrote, it would be revealed. Tang Xiao was angry when he heard this and ordered Tian Hu to slap Jin Biao, but Tian Hu was reluctant to do so due to her subconscious feelings for him.
In front of Jin Biao, Tang Xiao slowly undressed Tian Hu, wanting to watch them perform in the act of love. Sure enough, Jin Biao panicked at the sight and begged Tang Xiao to stop. In the end, he had no choice but to knock Tian Hu unconscious with his own head and vowed to kill Tang Xiao himself.
Before the final game began, Yun Xiang entrusted three silk bags to Shu Yanan and instructed her to open them in front of Ke Menglan and Su Mingyu. After everything was arranged, Yun Xiang prepared to leave Liansheng Lane through the back window on the second floor. However, he was afraid of heights and thought he might get hurt if he jumped. Unexpectedly, Shu Yanan effortlessly held him in her arms.
Just as Yun Xiang was admiring Shu Yanan's small body's strength, a night watchman suddenly passed by, frightening him. He quickly broke free from Shu Yanan's embrace, trying to appear less embarrassed. Shu Yanan suppressed her laughter until the night watchman was gone, and then burst out laughing while watching Yun Xiang cover his face in embarrassment.
Later, Yun Xiang went to see Mo Bufan in person and had his shadow protect him. Mo Bufan reminded Yun Xiang to be wary of the people around him, and Yun Xiang naturally understood his meaning. Apparently, he also suspected Shu Yanan's background. In fact, Mo Bufan's suspicions were well-founded. It was hard not to be suspicious of a young girl who could easily break Qi Qi's poison.
According to Yun Xiang's instructions, Shu Yanan and Su Mingyu offered a 10% rebate on the day of the gambling competition to attract many customers. Although this attracted many people, Tang Xiao was not to be outdone. He ordered the casino to recruit heavily and even caused chaos in the Liansheng neighborhood. In a short time, several customers left one after another, which had a significant effect. After talking to Ke Menglan, Shu Yanan directly removed Tang Xiao's planted customers and continued to increase the rebate, but Tang Xiao still kept up.
At the end of the first day of gambling, Tang Xiao won through strategy, and everyone was disappointed with the profit calculation. Ke Menglan bluntly stated that falsifying the accounts was not an option, and they still needed to rely on intelligence to win. Shu Yanan had no choice but to open the first letter from Yun Xiang. Following Yun Xiang's instructions, she opened an outside betting platform in the Liansheng neighborhood, starting from small odds and increasing to seven times the payout.
In order to defeat Yun Xiang, Tang Xiao copied all of his gambling establishments, and it became very lively. Su Huairou saw that Yun Xiang had started to deal with Tang Xiao and, recalling the past with the Luo family, worried that Yun Xiang's next move would be to target the Su family, so she began to discuss countermeasures with Qian Rong. Qian Rong said that if Tang Xiao won, he would personally take care of the matter, even if it meant breaking his promise. Mo Bufan finally won a game against Yun Xiang in chess, and Yun Xiang explained the true essence of the game.
Tianhu continued to report on the situation in Liansheng Fang to Tang Xiao, and Meizhu felt sympathy for Tianhu and gave her the necklace she was wearing to use as an antidote. Tang Xiao had already realized what was going on without being explicitly told, and upon hearing that Ke Menglan was advising Shu Yanan, he immediately had Tianhu go back to warn Ke Menglan not to forget her humble background and to quickly find out if Yun Xiang was in Liansheng Fang.
Episode 18 Recap
Tianhu who was given orders came to knock on Yun Xiang's door while holding a bowl of porridge, but luckily Shu Yanan appeared in time to stop him and scolded him for his lack of manners. Ke Menglan came to plead for Tianhu and brought her to her own room. She asked why Tianhu had become like this, but unexpectedly Tianhu cursed Ke Menglan as a lowly person who goes back on their word, violating Tang Xiao's orders. When this was revealed, Ke Menglan was shocked and unexpectedly discovered that Tianhu's body was covered in purple veins due to severe poisoning.
It was precisely because of Tianhu's suffering that Ke Menglan wanted to regain the antidote and give her innocence to her beloved before she devoted herself to Tang Xiao. On the other hand, Su Mingyu dreamed of the scene of his first encounter with Ke Menglan, watching her graceful dancing and beautiful appearance, and couldn't help but yearn for her.
The knocking on the door woke Su Mingyu up from his dream, and he opened the door to find Ke Menglan, who was beautifully dressed. He was stunned for a moment. Ke Menglan personally came to invite Su Mingyu to drink, and the combination of fine wine and beautiful women was intoxicating. Su Mingyu watched as Ke Menglan drunkenly approached him and proposed to offer herself to him that night. He immediately pushed her away and emphasized that he wanted to marry her grandly and would not take advantage of her in her vulnerable state.
Ke Menglan heard this and burst into tears, quietly leaving. Su Mingyu sensed that something was amiss and felt that the situation was strange. He took the initiative to discuss countermeasures with Shu Yanan. On the other side, Tianhu reported that Ke Menglan was preparing to bring down Yun Xiang by falsifying accounts, which Tang Xiao found interesting.
After Su Mingyu finished talking with Shu Yanan, they found out that Yun Xiang was not at Liansheng Lane, and that Ke Menglan was also under Tang Xiao's control. Later, they went to find Ke Menglan and coincidentally caught her falsifying accounts. Ke Menglan had to reveal the truth about Tianhu being poisoned. Under the control of Tang Xiao's drugs, Tianhu was in a critical condition. Su Mingyu was furious and immediately stormed out to hold Tang Xiao accountable.
Shu Yanan quickly stopped Su Mingyu and analyzed the current situation for him, calming his impulsive behavior and persuading him to return to their room. Although Shu Yanan recognized Shixin powder, she didn't have the antidote and couldn't make it in a short time. The best she could do was to prepare a medicine to slow down the poison's effect.
Tang Xiao thought Su Mingyu would come to hold him accountable that night, so he invited the Nan Du Governor to play cards and deliberately lost a lot of silver to him. Tang Xiao waited for a long time until his subordinates reported that Su Mingyu had been persuaded by Shu Yanan to return, which made him angry and disappointed that he had wasted his silver for nothing.
Due to Ke Menglan's situation, Su Mingyu hated Tang Xiao to the bone. He immediately raised the odds to one to three, surprising everyone. They thought Liansheng Lane would definitely suffer a huge loss at this speed, but Su Mingyu reassured them not to worry because the Su family would take care of it. The Su family could afford this amount of money.
The scouts sent by Tang Xiao came to report the news at any time. When they heard about the preferential policies of Liansheng Lane, they also followed Yun Xiang's odds and used the same preferential policies to attract gamblers. Little did they know that Yun Xiang and Mo Bufan had been manipulating things behind the scenes, waiting for them to take this step. Yun Xiang knew that Ke Menglan was being coerced by Tang Xiao, but he deliberately let Su Mingyu know about it, so that he could completely break with Tang Xiao.
In the blink of an eye, the three-day deadline had arrived, and Liansheng Lane had made a lot of efforts, but still could not reach Tang Xiao's profit target. During this time, Ke Menglan had been carefully taking care of Tian Hu, personally feeding him, and Su Mingyu had seen that she had not rested properly for many days, so he urged her to eat something first. As for her betrayal of Liansheng Lane, he did not pay too much attention to it, but felt that he did not have enough ability to protect her.
As Liansheng Lane closed its books, the Tang family began to prepare for the closure as well, and the outcome was clear. Mo Bufan sent a message to Shu Yanan, asking her to quickly rescue Jin Biao during this opportunity. At a critical moment, a mysterious person suddenly wanted to place a large bet to stop the Tang family from closing the books, and this person was none other than Yun Xiang from Liansheng Lane. Yun Xiang turned to face Tang Xiao and said that as a leader in the industry, he naturally understood that he could continue to place bets even if the sign was not removed, and he was unlikely to violate such rules. The others all agreed when they heard this.
Episode 19 Recap
Yun Xiang took advantage of Tang Xiao not sealing the bet and deliberately placed a huge wager. According to the rules of Tang Xiao's gambling house, he had to bet one to seven, and the calculator estimated it to be more than 140,000 taels of silver. Tang Xiao was dumbfounded, he had never thought that Yun Xiang was so rich. He realized that Yun Xiang should have borrowed money from Guanghui Zhuang, without any worries.
Now it's Yun Xiang's turn to negotiate with Tang Xiao. He was willing to give up 70,000 taels of silver in exchange for three things: the first is the contract he signed to sell himself, the second is to release Jin Biao, and the third is to hand over Ke Menglan's discharge papers. Tang Xiao had no other options but to agree to Yun Xiang's demands.
The antidote for Tian Hu had been obtained, Jin Biao had been released, and Ke Menglan's discharge papers had been obtained. Jin Biao originally planned to kill Tang Xiao's henchmen, but saving Tian Hu was more important, so he hurriedly followed Shu Yanan back.
Su Mingyu personally went to Liansheng Lane to meet Yun Xiang. He hoped to persuade Yun Xiang not to drive Ke Menglan out of the gambling house. However, he did not expect that Yun Xiang not only did not expel the betrayer Ke Menglan but also gave Su Mingyu the official document of removal from the lower class. Su Mingyu was deeply moved and excited to bring the news to Ke Menglan.
Finally getting the official document of removal, Ke Menglan knew it was not easy. Fifteen years ago, her mother had encouraged her to live well and strive to get rid of the lower class. Now, she had finally received the official document of removal. Ke Menglan asked Su Mingyu if he looked down on her for her background, and Su Mingyu replied that he never had. Looking at Su Mingyu's serene eyes, Ke Menglan cried tears of joy. She placed the official document of removal on the candlestick and burned it herself. After this experience, she no longer cared about a piece of official document.
After Tang Xiao paid off the compensation, there was no more money left on the account. The steward trembled as he reported to Tang Xiao, fearing that he would not be able to explain to Ling Yuan's people in the future.
Ke Menglan burned the resignation documents and the next day, in high spirits, opened the door of Liansheng Lane and released the promotional activities. Yun Xiang comforted Ke Menglan that she is still the boss of Liansheng Lane and free to come and go in the future. Ke Menglan had no worries and now feels much more relaxed. Today, she is going to meet her enemy. Yun Xiang brought Shu Yanan and Jin Biao to meet Tang Xiao. Before they set off, Yun Xiang worriedly asked Shu Yanan if she needed more help, but Shu Yanan smiled and shook her head. She has prepared for dealing with Meizhu for a long time.
Shu Yanan confronts Meizhu, who relied on her invulnerable body and didn't even bother with Shu Yanan's flying darts. However, Meizhu miscalculated this time. The darts thrown by Shu Yanan were not poisonous, but medicinal. When the darts pierced her body, Meizhu's blood flowed uncontrollably, quickly draining her life force. Meizhu had no chance of survival. Shu Yanan spared her final blow, as Meizhu had previously helped Tianhu by providing an antidote to slow down the poison. Jin Biao also defeated Ah Zhong and quickly went to meet Yun Xiang with Shu Yanan.
Yun Xiang went to see Tang Xiao alone, and on the way he met Mo Bufan. Mo Bufan was also curious about the reason why Luojia Village was slaughtered, so he accompanied Yun Xiang to see Tang Xiao. Tang Xiao claimed that at that time he and Wen Cong joined forces to encircle the land, and only Luo Jia Village refused to sell the land to the court. At that time, there was a person specifically responsible for this named Liu Baihu. He was confident that he could take over Luo Jia Village by slaughtering the village in time. Unexpectedly, a few days later, Luo Jia Village was actually slaughtered.
As for Liu Baihu's whereabouts, Tang Xiao explained that Liu Baihu was promoted to Qianhu for his merits and was sent to the front line to fight. Later, he really encountered pirates and died. Now there is no evidence to prove his death. Yun Xiang pressed Tang Xiao about who spread the rumor about opening the sea. Tang Xiao said it was related to Su Mingyu. It was Su Mingyu's father, the president of the Southern Business Association, Su Linghe, who led them to buy and encircle the land. When Tang Xiao said this, a large amount of information was revealed, and Yun Xiang found it difficult to accept for a moment.
Episode 20 Recap
Tang Xiao has already confessed, and Yun Xiang did not continue to question him, so he let him go. When Mo Bufan saw Yun Xiang looking dejected, he reminded him not to be discouraged and said that he would investigate whether Liu Baihu had been murdered. Yun Xiang knew that Tang Xiao's keen interest in Liu Baihu was naturally related to the massacre in the village, but Tang Xiao was just a dog. Killing him would be meaningless to Yun Xiang. Moreover, someone would naturally kill Tang Xiao to keep him quiet.
Yun Xiang had previously stated that all those involved in the massacre must face justice. When Mo Bufan asked him what he would do in the future, Yun Xiang said he would never give up. He believed that his purpose for living was to uncover the truth and seek justice. Suddenly, it started to rain, and next to the inn where Yun Xiang and Wen Cong were staying, a poem could be heard: "With a bamboo stick and straw sandals, lightly mount the horse, dressed in a straw raincoat for life." Yun Xiang was now determined to gamble everything to uncover the truth at any cost.
Yun Xiang returned to Nan Du and immediately went to find Qian Rong, asking him to let him review the transaction records of the business association from ten years ago, especially those from the 24th year of Tianqing. Qian Rong was very surprised, but Su Huairou had previously instructed him that they would fully cooperate if Yun Xiang needed it. Qian Rong followed through and showed him the commercial agreement records from fifteen years ago.
Su Mingyu took Menglan to see her sister. Menglan was the daughter of a convicted criminal and had burned documents, making it difficult for her to enter the Su family. Menglan confessed that she no longer cared about her status since the moment she burned the documents, and all she wanted was to be with Su Huairou, who was a well-traveled person, and she had a deep relationship with Qian Rong. Su Huairou understood this and silently approved of her brother's and Menglan's marriage.
Qian Rong talked about the matter of transferring the files with Yun Xiang. Su Huairou knew that the situation was hopeless and asked Qian Rong what his plans were if the building collapsed. Qian Rong didn't care about that and said that he would leave with Su Huairou and fly away together. With these words, Su Huairou became much calmer.
Tang Xiao returned home and felt a sense of crisis. He hurried back home and ordered his men to close the gate tightly. Unexpectedly, Kou Yan, Ling Yuan's man, was sitting in the hall. Ye, the leader of the rudder, followed closely behind. Now they have found out that Tang Xiao had tampered with the accounts and had been doing so for many years. Tang Xiao handed over the recipe for making drugs that he had pondered over his entire life, hoping that Kou Yan could spare him. Kou Yan was even more ruthless than Ye and took Tang Xiao directly to the dungeon. After breaking his arm, he let the woman who had been drugged and locked up in the dungeon for many years vent her anger. He even threw a knife on the ground, and naturally, Tang Xiao's situation was dire.
Yun Xiang had been looking at the account books all night. In the morning, when the sun rose, he took the account book and went to see Su Huairou. Su Huairou had not eaten anything the previous night and was calmly sitting in the hall waiting for Yun Xiang. When Yun Xiang asked about the massacre of the Luo family, Su Huairou intentionally spoke of Wen Cong's particularly ruthless style, wanting to destroy all the merchants in the Southern Capital, leaving only their family dominant. The merchants must make money, and they would naturally purchase a large amount of land. At that time, there was almost no land left in Zhejiang. Wen Cong planned to go and buy land, and someone gave him advice, saying that a massacre could save a lot of money. So, the Su family colluded with Tang Xiao in secret. Su Huairou stood up and rebuked Yun Xiang for not slandering people, and asked Qian Rong to drive Yun Xiang out, stating that the Su family did not need such a friend.
In just one night, the Southern Capital was closed off. Tian Hu went out to make purchases but came back empty-handed. Shu Yanan heard that the court was suppressing the Southern Capital and many people were sending large amounts of gambling money to Liansheng Lane. She was curious and went to take a look. Among the team escorting the silver cart, Shu Yanan saw a face that was very familiar. This person was Kou Yuanjie. She immediately became alert and warned Jin Biao not to accept that silver, and to let the cart filled with silver ingots come and go.
Episode 21 Recap
According to the requirements of the sect leader, Mo Bufan had to report Yun Xiang's whereabouts to him every once in a while. This time, when Mo Bufan was writing the letter, he hesitated for a long time. Kang Qiao was puzzled. Normally, Mo Bufan was very prudent in his actions, so why did he hesitate repeatedly when writing to the sect leader? Mo Bufan felt that Yun Xiang was eager for revenge. He followed Yun Xiang to find the mastermind behind the scenes and found that the situation was very complicated. The person behind Tang Xiao was either an official in the court or a follower of Ling Yuan. He couldn't afford to offend people from either side. If he told the sect leader, it would definitely hinder Yun Xiang's plan. Mo Bufan felt sorry and decided to temporarily conceal Yun Xiang's movements from the sect leader.
In the morning, someone claiming to be from the Liansheng alley came to deliver the silver as a gift to Tang Xiao. Kang Qiao personally went to receive it, but strangely, this time it was whole boxes of silver ingots instead of silver notes. Kang Qiao asked why it wasn't silver notes, but the other side claimed they didn't have time to exchange and directly exchanged them for silver notes at the silver shop. The explanation seemed reasonable, so Kang Qiao accepted the silver and ordered it to be carried to the warehouse. On the way, he passed by Mo Bufan, who saw several servants carrying many boxes of silver and felt that something was wrong. He opened one of the boxes and saw "National Treasury" written on the bottom of the silver ingots. Mo Bufan was anxious, realizing that something big was about to happen!
As expected, someone reported that there were many soldiers outside. Mo Bufan immediately sent Kang Qiao to find Yun Xiang for help. As soon as Kang Qiao left, the soldiers took Mo Bufan and all his servants away. In court, the officials didn't even allow Mo Bufan to defend himself. He was beaten severely with a plank, and it was clear that someone had already arranged things with the officials in advance.
Yun Xiang was passing by Mo Bufan's bank in the early morning when he noticed that the door was sealed with a strip of paper. When he returned to Liansheng Lane, Kang Qiao immediately told Yun Xiang what had happened that morning. The most crucial witness now was Tang Xiao. In the morning, when Kang Qiao arrived, he had secretly entered Tang's mansion and took away Tang Xiao's body along with the bodies of several women from the dungeon. Yun Xiang agreed with Kang Qiao's plan, that if the officials investigated the case, they would likely conclude that Tang Xiao had framed Mo Bufan. To avoid being charged, they needed to find Tang Xiao. If Tang Xiao were found dead, it would be considered that Mo Bufan had killed him to cover up the crime. Yun Xiang told Tang Xiao to be calm and he would try to find a solution.
Shu Yanan saw Yun Xiang drinking from a wine pot and sensed that something was wrong. She advised him not to drink too much. The situation this time was beyond Yun Xiang's expectations. He couldn't decide who the real culprit was. He murmured that Shu Yanan was the only person he trusted by his side.
As soon as Yun Xiang left the room, Shu Yanan saw a familiar figure. It was someone from Ling Yuan's side. Shu Yanan secretly met with him. It turned out that Shu Yanan was the young lady of Ling Yuan. She came to Nan Du originally to catch the minions of the Night Owl. Unexpectedly, she met Yun Xiang and found out that he had a grudge to settle. Anyway, she could use him to reduce the power of the Night Owl. Shu Yanan decided to get close to Yun Xiang.
After a while, Su Huairou arrived. She first came to see Menglan and gave her the jade bracelet that had been passed down in the Su family, admitting that she was the daughter-in-law of the Su family. Then, in front of everyone, she gave the account book of the Su family's silk factory to Su Mingyu, asking him to take over the family's business in the future. Su Mingyu was very surprised by his sister's decision. He thought it was too sudden to give him the family business, but Su Huairou smiled and told him not to worry, she had already found a good teacher for him.
Su Huairou went to see Yun Xiang and told him a secret. Fifteen years ago, someone came to the Su family overnight and presented a clever plan to Su Huairou's father. They intentionally leaked the news that the court was going to close down maritime trade, and also brought a petition signed by over a hundred officials calling for the closure of maritime trade, which they showed to the Su family. The visitor had a distinguished identity and brought news of the sea closure. The Su family's patriarch naturally believed it, so the news quickly spread and soon after, official rumors of the sea closure were heard.
Yun Xiang listened to Su Huairou's explanation and he knew that there might be other motives behind the sea ban, but it could not prove that the massacre of 300 lives in Luo Jiazhuang had nothing to do with Su's family. Su Huairou came prepared and she brought two big gifts for Yun Xiang today. The first was to help Yun Xiang rescue Mr. Mo from Guanghui Village, and the second was to make Su Mingyu the leader of Nan Du.
Su Huairou intentionally sent away her younger brother and confided in Yun Xiang that she had transferred all of Su family's assets to her brother's name. Su Mingyu was young and lacked experience, and his strategic thinking and courage were inferior to others. Yun Xiang could help Su Mingyu manage the family business, but if he coveted the Su family's assets, he could take them over. Su Huairou came with sincerity, but Yun Xiang didn't understand how remote Luo's Manor was related to Ling Yuan. Su Huairou only knew this much and urged Yun Xiang to focus on the present situation, there might be a chance.
Su Huairou is leaving and she entrusted the Su family's industries to Su Mingyu and Menglan. Before leaving, she instructed Su Mingyu to be cautious in everything, and thanked Yun Xiang before leaving with Qian Rong from Nan Du. On the way, the sunset illuminated her sedan chair, and the afterglow shone on Su Huairou. She confessed that she used to enjoy watching the sunrise when she was young, but now she only likes the scenes after the sunset.
Episode 22 Recap
That night, Kang Qiao and the others couldn't wait any longer and prepared to break into the prison to rescue Mo Bufan. Yun Xiang stopped Kang Qiao and asked him to be patient. There are rules in Yun Tai now, and they absolutely cannot offend the government. Recklessly breaking into the prison would mean making enemies with the government officials, and more seriously, all the assets of Guanghui Village that Mo Bufan worked hard to manage would be seized by the court. Yun Xiang explained all the pros and cons to Kang Qiao, who prioritized Mo Bufan's safety. After considering everything, Kang Qiao finally decided to wait one more day. Yun Xiang was finally relieved.
Su Mingyu rushed to meet with the official at the yamen overnight to discuss the handover of the position of the leader of the Chamber of Commerce. During the meeting, the clerk at the side specially reminded him not to mention Mo Bufan's matter. Su Mingyu carefully inspected the hall of the prefectural governor's mansion and found a painting hanging in the middle of the bookcase. He pretended to have a friend who admired the painting and was willing to buy it for ten thousand yuan, although its actual market value was much lower. The prefectural governor understood his intentions. Su Mingyu then stated that he would continue to take up the position of the leader of the Southern Trade Association. To show his gratitude and willingness to share the prefectural governor's burdens, he promised to make up for the lost treasury silver and give the prefectural governor an explanation. The prefectural governor was pleased with the outcome, and Mo Bufan was soon released and allowed to return home.
Su Mingyu personally saw Mo Bufan being brought back before he could be relieved. When Mo Bufan heard that it cost him 35,000 taels of silver, he forgot about the injuries on his body that were hurting his heart. He immediately ordered Kang Qiao to call Yun Xiang over. When he saw Yun Xiang, Mo Bufan poured out his grievances, saying that he not only suffered physically but also lost more than 100,000 taels of silver. If Yun Xiang didn't give him an explanation, he would go to report to the sect leader. Yun Xiang immediately asked Kang Qiao to prepare ink and paper and told the sect leader the truth he had recently discovered. It seemed that 15 years ago, Ling Yuan had already colluded with the court and done many secret things. Mo Bufan listened attentively and immediately asked Yun Xiang not to tell the sect leader temporarily. Since someone wanted to harm him, he would not sit idly by. Mo Bufan began to fight back.
Kou Yuanjie is Ling Yuan's person. He used a plan to frame Mo Bufan. Ye Duozhu didn't know what impact this would have, so he quickly wrote a letter to Mr. Nangong. Ye Duozhu is Mr. Nangong's subordinate, and Mr. Nangong replied "It doesn't matter" to him. Ye Duozhu knew what to do and bid farewell to Kou Yuanjie. However, Kou Yuanjie killed the messenger Gong Yin in a brutal way. Ye Duozhu didn't know what was going on. Kou Yuanjie rode away on a fast horse, claiming to bring a congratulatory gift to Mr. Nangong.
At the canal dock, a thick fog was spreading. The two officials in charge of the treasury were still complaining about not seeing the messenger who was supposed to bring the tribute silver. They didn't know when the ship carrying the silver would arrive. As soon as they finished talking, a big ship came and headed straight towards the canal dock. The two officials were knocked into the river and struggled to climb ashore. They found out that the ship that had just arrived was the one carrying the treasury silver, but there was no one on board. It was clear that they had encountered pirates!
Su Mingyu, along with Ke Menglan, rescued many abandoned orphans who were sold off. Jin Biao and Tian Hu personally went to pick them up, and Su Mingyu found a large courtyard for them to pretend to be a charitable organization. After seeing these children return safely, Jin Biao was very grateful to Su Mingyu and said that if the Su family encountered any difficulties in the future, they must come to him for help.
The next day, the yamen officials in the southern city posted notices announcing the closure of businesses due to the tense situation. Princess Mingzhu and Mr. Liu were having tea in a teahouse when they heard rumors spreading in the streets about sea monsters eating official silver. They couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the rumors. Officials from the government came with great momentum to catch those who spread the rumors, but Mr. Liu and Princess Mingzhu immediately stopped them and ordered the officials to catch the thieves instead. The yamen officials were frightened when they realized they were in front of Princess Mingzhu and begged for forgiveness on their knees.
Kang Qiao quickly passed on the message to Yun Xiang that over a hundred thousand taels of silver had disappeared overnight, and the situation was not good. Mo Bufan warned Yun Xiang to be prepared.
Episode 23 Recap
Currently, in the southern capital city, various government agencies are passing the buck to each other, not only failing to solve cases but also delaying the opportunity to do so. Su Mingyu spent a lot of money to bribe the catchers of the government agency, carefully inquiring about the entire process of the stolen tribute silver. When it came to the missing million tribute silver, all the officials remained tight-lipped, and no one had seen a heavy ship carrying goods and silver.
The ship had more than thirty people on board, and all of the one hundred and thirty-plus strong men disappeared without a trace, dead or alive. If it were suspected that the guards had stolen the silver themselves, they would have to abandon their wives and children and ensure that no one leaked the news, which was really difficult. Therefore, Yun Xiang believed that two groups of bandits had simultaneously appeared in the southern capital city, with extremely similar and sophisticated methods, indicating that they were the same group of people, and that last time Mo Bufan framed them, he must have had another plan.
In fact, Yun Xiang did not want to say too much, for fear that Su Mingyu would be implicated. However, Su Mingyu was completely unrestrained, which moved him and made him regard her as a dear friend. Shu Yanan sat in the corridor, pouring her sorrows out with wine, and gradually heard the conversation between the two, immediately thinking that her younger brother Kou Yuanjie was responsible for this.
On that day, Kou Yuanjie attacked and killed the official, taking the official documents and instead of leaving the city, he returned to the city to meet with Ye Xiao. He instructed Ye Xiao to break the silver into pieces. Ye Xiao knew that Kou Yuanjie was deliberately causing trouble, but he was afraid to offend Ling Yuan and was wary of Kou Yuanjie's ruthless methods, so he had to reluctantly accept the task.
Yun Xiang took the initiative to find Shu Yanan, but Shu Yanan was drinking alone in her room and ignored his knocking. After Yun Xiang left, Shu Yanan went to find Kou Yuanjie alone, intending to teach him a lesson. However, Kou Yuanjie had no intention of holding back. Shu Yanan, considering their close sibling relationship, placed him in a suburb of the city and warned him not to harm Yun Xiang.
Kou Yuanjie couldn't understand why his sister had left Ling Yuan three years ago. Shu Yanan was silent for a moment upon hearing this and then revealed a little-known story. At the time, Ling Yuan was in turmoil and Kou Yuanjie, the chief, forced his daughter Shu Yanan to marry Nangong Fang to secure the future of Ling Yuan. Shu Yanan strongly opposed it to avoid conflict between her mother and Nangong Fang and chose to leave home in hiding.
After hearing about Shu Yanan's ordeal, Kou Yuanjie was indignant and believed that what her mother did was too much. It was equivalent to ruining her daughter's happiness for a lifetime. However, Shu Yanan didn't pursue it further because of her own mother, so she urged Kou Yuanjie to leave Nan Du as soon as possible. Otherwise, with Yun Xiang's intelligence, he would definitely guess that there were two forces in Ling Yuan in Nan Du.
Liu Gongquan brought Princess Mingzhu to the governor of Nan Du to search for clues about the Water Ghost robbery case. Master Shao personally arranged food and drink to entertain them. Because the theft of Gong Yin in Nan Du was a big deal, Liu Gongquan didn't bring any official documents or assignments, so he didn't have the authority to investigate. Princess Mingzhu grew up following Lord Fu, so she naturally had ways to deal with government officials. She quickly convinced Master Shao to let Liu Gongquan take the lead in the case. It was also because Master Shao had something on Princess Mingzhu, and they had to follow her orders.
To dispel Yun Xiang's suspicions, Shu Yanan went to the black market herself to find important clues. According to the information provided by Kou Yuanjie, she revealed to Yun Xiang that Zhang the blacksmith was hired by a masked man named Yuan Ye to melt the silver, and this person was Ye Xiaoxin's confidant. Yun Xiang did not doubt the information brought by Shu Yanan. Little did he know that Kou Yuanjie's real plan was to use him to completely solve Nangong Fang by investigating Ye Xiaoxin.
Yun Xiang comforted Shu Yanan and asked her to close her eyes, taking out a hairpin he had carefully prepared. Shu Yanan was deeply moved, and their feelings quickly warmed up, but their relationship became more complicated. Yun Xiang then analyzed that even if this group of people melted the official ingots into a hundred thousand pieces of silver, it would still be very difficult to transport them. It is likely that they would have to be scattered and the only suspicious place was the Tang family's gambling house, which could be used to launder the stolen silver.
At the same time, Liu Gongquan was also analyzing the ins and outs of the matter, knowing that it involved many relationships, including those in the court and the martial world. In the outskirts of the city, a large amount of official silver was being melted in a painted boat, and then taken by others to the gambling house and other places to exchange it for old silver to cover up their tracks.
Episode 24 Recap
Yun Xiang went to discuss the whereabouts of the silver ship with Mo Bufan, but found that Mo Bufan was "using form to substitute for substance" and enjoying various hoof meat dishes. Mo Bufan was not on guard against being tricked by Yun Xiang, and admitted to using shadows to monitor the Tang Family Gambling House. He was confident that Lord Shao would not be able to find out anything.
For the next period of time, Kang Qiao sent someone to follow those who often went in and out of the Tang Family Gambling House. Unexpectedly, they were discovered by Kou Yuanjie, and the female assassin, Yue Wu, was ordered to kill them. Mo Bufan was saddened and angry to see his hard-trained shadow killed and vowed to capture these people as soon as possible.
Although this lead seemed to be cut off, Yun Xiang thought of a new lead, which was that smelting official ingots required a large supply of charcoal. If they started investigating from the charcoal, perhaps they could also find the location of the lair. Just as Yun Xiang was about to leave the Mo Mansion, Kang Qiao suddenly chased after him, saying that all of Mo's shadows were born and raised in Nan Du, so why did Shu Yanan know about the black market lead first? Her true identity must not be simple.
With the reminder from Kang Qiao and Mo Bufan, Yun Xiang became suspicious of Shu Yanan. After returning to Liansheng Lane, Yun Xiang intentionally drank with Shu Yanan and tested her multiple times, saying that he had found another force in Nandu City besides Ling Yuan, which made Shu Yanan immediately serious and alert. She asked him how to deal with Ling Yuan.
That night, Yun Xiang thought back to his acquaintance with Shu Yanan and became more and more suspicious of her. He had asked Mo Bufan to investigate the orphan of the Shu family, but later received news that all members of the Shu family's escort bureau were killed, and there were no survivors left, meaning that Shu Yanan's orphan identity could not be confirmed.
Combining these details, Yun Xiang believed that Shu Yanan was likely from Ling Yuan. Later, Yun Xiang went to Shu Yanan's room to find her, but the room was lit but empty, and a strand of hair fell from the door frame when he pushed the door. As someone from Yun Tai, Yun Xiang was familiar with these methods, and he became even more convinced of Shu Yanan's identity.
Shu Yanan personally went to pass on the message to Kou Yuanjie, saying that Yun Xiang had already been watching the source of the charcoal and was only waiting for Ye Xiao to appear to buy it, so he should resolve this matter quickly. But when Shu Yanan returned to Liansheng Lane, she found broken hair on the floor of her room and realized that Yun Xiang had been there and suspected her, causing her inner pain and conflict.
As Tang's gambling house did not need further investigation, Yun Xiang and Mo Bufan teamed up to squat near a charcoal seller's house. They soon discovered that someone was buying large amounts of charcoal, so they decided to follow the charcoal carts to find the hiding place of the silver. Shu Yanan volunteered to go with them, and Yun Xiang intentionally brought her along to see what she would do. Surprisingly, Shu Yanan gave Mo Bufan ideas and strategies throughout the journey, and helped him to blockade the charcoal carts.
The charcoal carts were very cunning during their journey, and there were even several carts that were disguised. Yun Xiang accurately judged the direction, and assigned Kang Qiao to follow the caravan while entrusting Shu Yanan with an important task. Meanwhile, Liu Gongquan and Princess Mingzhu were also observing nearby. Bored with nothing to do, Princess Mingzhu disguised herself as a man and entered Liansheng Lane, only to be stopped by the Heavenly Tigers who said that the curfew was about to start.
Both groups closely monitored the caravan at night. Shu Yanan noticed Liu Gongquan and his group and immediately informed Yun Xiang. Mo Bufan was ready to seize the painting boat before those useless people did, but Shu Yanan believed that Liu Gongquan was a famous detective in Jiangnan and they should not act recklessly against him.
Similarly, Liu Gongquan also noticed that Shu Yanan had discovered them. The reason why he did not capture her was mainly because he was waiting for the right opportunity. If he did not have a full grasp of the situation, he would not have risked startling the snake. In the next moment, Liu Gongquan arranged a large number of people to use civilian boats and headed straight for the painting boat. Anyone who tried to obstruct them or spread the news was mercilessly killed.
Episode 25 Recap
Ye Xiao heard the sound coming from the painting boat and realized that the current situation was not favorable to him. He immediately ordered his subordinates to sink all the silver into the river. Just then, Liu Gongquan and his men boarded the boat, and they caught Ye Xiao with the stolen goods. Ye Xiao struggled hard and managed to escape by diving into the water. After reaching the shore, he hid in the marketplace, disguising himself.
Princess Mingzhu was also clever. Although she knew it was difficult to distinguish the leader of the gang in the busy streets, she intentionally shouted to attract Ye Xiao's attention, which ultimately exposed him. The officials and soldiers chased after him relentlessly, and Liu Gongquan was responsible for interrogating him. Ye Xiao knew he had nowhere to run and bit the poison to commit suicide on the spot. This was the style of Ling Yuan people.
Kang Qiao reported the news to Yun Xiang, and thanks to Shu Yanan's reminder, they were able to catch Ye Xiao. However, Yun Xiang's face became serious. He suddenly suggested that Kang Qiao should order the shadow to monitor Shu Yanan's movements. The two of them went to Guanghui Village and saw that Mo Bufan was still drowning his sorrows in alcohol, feeling sorry for the loss of his hard-earned silver. Yun Xiang could understand Mo Bufan's pain, so he revealed his plan to him. Only by cooperating with Liu Gongquan could they draw the snake out of its hole.
When Shu Yanan saw that Yun Xiang had left Liansheng Alley, she went alone to Jishan Hall. During this time, Mo Bufan and Yun Xiang had rescued more and more children. With the help of Su Mingyu and others, they repaired Jishan Hall and entrusted Jin Biao and Tian Hu to take care of the children. Occasionally, Su Mingyu would come in person to teach the children.
Because all the children have found their homes and are no longer living a nomadic life, Shu Yanan feels particularly pleased. Shu Yanan personally combs Ling'er's hair and listens to her say that when her hair grows longer, she will let Shu Yanan comb it again. This makes Shu Yanan feel a little sad because he has already prepared to leave.
In a conversation between Princess Mingzhu and Liu Gongquan, they discuss the century-old enmity between Ling Yuan and Yun Tai, two major martial arts factions with very different styles. Ling Yuan has always carried the name of a rebel. Later, in order to meet Yun Xiang, Princess Mingzhu intentionally gambles one thousand taels of gold at the Liansheng Inn, only to lose. This finally attracts the attention of Yun Xiang.
At first, Yun Xiang found Princess Mingzhu to be quite strange, but when he saw the jade pendant she used for gambling, he instantly understood her identity and respectfully took her to a private room. Princess Mingzhu, who is extremely confident in her intelligence, directly asked Yun Xiang why he was staring at the tribute silver on the boat last night. Yun Xiang deliberately avoided the topic and circumvented the question, showing his skill in conversation.
Just as Princess Mingzhu was at a loss as to how to get Yun Xiang to speak, Liu Gongquan suddenly appeared and insisted on speaking with Yun Xiang alone. Knowing that Liu Gongquan's late visit meant that he must have full confidence in his ability to clear himself of guilt, Yun Xiang took the initiative to propose a business deal, offering to assist him in completely cracking the Water Ghost Robbery case with all his might.
At present, Liu Gongquan has not obtained any valuable clues, but Yun Xiang provided him with advice and promised that the culprit could be caught within three days. Although Liu Gongquan was skeptical, he saw the look of confidence and sincerity in Yun Xiang's eyes, so he agreed to cooperate with him to face Ling Yuan who was lurking in the dark.
Meanwhile, Jin Biao noticed something unusual about Shu Yanan and felt that her visit to Jishan Hall today was more like a final arrangement. Shu Yanan did not confirm or deny it and suddenly saw Liu Gongquan and others coming out of Liansheng Lane. She instinctively pulled Jin Biao behind a tree. Liu Gongquan sternly warned Princess Mingzhu not to meet Yun Xiang privately in the future, even though her princess status was highly regarded in the palace, her noble identity could bring danger in the market. Jin Biao realized that these people were not friendly, and Shu Yanan revealed that this person was the famous Jiangnan Divine Constable.
Episode 26 Recap
Jin Biao was somewhat surprised when he heard the name Liu Gongquan. After all, anyone who roamed the rivers and lakes knew how formidable Liu Gongquan was, and he was even more worried that Yun Xiang would be in danger because of this. Although Jin Biao loved money, he had principles when it came to it. He would not follow Yun Xiang's plan to offend Liu Gongquan. Yun Xiang reassured Jin Biao not to worry and promised to prepare a small gift for him. Later, Jin Biao returned to his room and saw a brand new big knife on the table, which made him very happy.
Shu Yanan was concerned about Yun Xiang's situation and worried that Liu Gongquan would make things difficult for him. Because of Shu Yanan's anxious appearance, Yun Xiang felt particularly touched in his heart. He took the initiative to hold Shu Yanan's hand and lead her back to the room, revealing to her that he had already solved the crisis and had information that Liu Gongquan wanted to know.
When Yun Xiang revealed this, Shu Yanan was somewhat stunned. Yun Xiang stated that he had found the hiding place of Ling Yuan's remnants in the southern capital, which was the condition for his alliance with Liu Gongquan. Shu Yanan was shocked to hear this and was afraid that Kou Yuanjie would be targeted by Yun Xiang. Little did she know that Yun Xiang was looking at her with a pained and struggling gaze from behind.
On that night, Yun Xiang anxiously sat in his room, wondering if Shu Yanan would go and betray him. Similarly, Shu Yanan was also struggling, as Yun Xiang was very meticulous and must have made comprehensive preparations if he could reveal the entire plan. If she were to directly give information to Kou Yuanjie, she feared that it would only expose herself. In the end, Shu Yanan stuffed her night clothes into the cabinet and went to the tavern alone, with memories of their past flashing through her mind, feeling heartbroken and unable to express herself.
The next day, Kang Qiao reported to Yun Xiang about Shu Yanan's whereabouts and said that there was currently nothing unusual. On the other hand, Yuan Ye personally came to find Nangong Fang, wanting to avenge Ye Xiao. Nangong Fang asked Yuan Ye to take his waist badge and report the matter truthfully to the sect leader Kou Yan. It was believed that Kou Yan would handle it personally. Yuan Ye believed it to be true, not realizing that it was Nangong Fang's two-pronged plan.
Yun Xiang brought Liu Gongquan and Princess Mingzhu to the nearby riverbank of the painting boat, ready to start with the tribute cloth. When Ye Xiao escaped, a large amount of tribute silver was already recovered by the government, leaving only tribute cloth with some value. These people would definitely be in a hurry to escape and dispose of the tribute cloth. Liu Gongquan greatly appreciated Yun Xiang's analysis, and even Princess Mingzhu felt that the people from Yun Tai were good at scheming.
On the way back, Princess Mingzhu asked Yun Xiang what reward he wanted. Yun Xiang said that after finding out the whereabouts of the missing soldiers, he hoped to take over Tang Xiao's industry. Liu Gongquan readily agreed to this request. Yun Xiang told Liu Gongquan that there were two Ling Yuan forces in the southern capital city, which caused today's situation. The two of them negotiated another deal, with Yun Xiang assisting Liu Gongquan to investigate the other Ling Yuan force, and Liu Gongquan going to the original site of Luo's Manor to uncover the truth of the past.
Shu Yanan hurriedly arrived at Kou Yuanjie's residence, asking them to leave Nan Du quickly and revealing the fact that Yun Xiang had teamed up with Liu Gongquan. Kou Yuanjie was very angry when he heard this and couldn't understand how she knew about his plans. He suspected that Shu Yanan had betrayed him. Because Kou Yan instructed Kou Yuanjie to bring Yun Xiang back to Ling Yuan, Kou Yuanjie wanted to take Shu Yanan with him.
Kou Yuanjie reminded Shu Yanan to be aware of Yun Xiang's deep scheming and feared that she had already plotted against her. If she refused to return to Ling Yuan, there would be someone to deal with Yun Xiang. Shu Yanan immediately grabbed Kou Yuanjie's neck and warned him not to harm Yun Xiang. Kang Qiao and Yingzi were hiding nearby and witnessed Shu Yanan's meeting with Kou Yuanjie, revealing Shu Yanan's true identity.
Later, Yun Xiang came to find Mo Bufan and offered to exchange all of the Tang family's industries to get his help in investigating Ling Yuan. Mo Bufan readily agreed. Kang Qiao informed Yun Xiang of the clues that day. Although Yun Xiang remained calm on the surface, he was actually stirred up inside. He returned to Lian Sheng Fang and stood opposite Shu Yanan's room, waiting until the sun was almost setting. Just when he thought Shu Yanan had really left without saying goodbye, he suddenly heard the familiar footsteps on the stairs. Looking at the familiar sound, his eyes turned red in an instant.
Episode 27 Recap
Shu Yanan left without saying goodbye and came alone to the place where she met Yun Xiang, but unfortunately it was no longer the same as before. Yun Xiang was heartbroken and wrote a poem to console himself after getting drunk, but ultimately burned it, and could only send his longing through tears as they parted ways, fearing they may never see each other again.
Liu Gongquan urged Princess Mingzhu to return to Yangzhou as soon as possible, as Lord Fu was still in court and had not yet attended to her. If someone were to investigate, they would soon discover that she had come to the Southern Capital. However, Princess Mingzhu disagreed, lamenting that everyone wants to be born into the royal family and enjoy honor and respect, but little did they know the complexity and intrigue within the imperial family, where a slight mistake could lead to disastrous consequences.
It was precisely because Princess Mingzhu grew up in the deep palace since childhood and had not completely seen through this layer of complexity, that she wanted to follow Liu Gongquan to learn and broaden her horizons. Liu Gongquan was in a dilemma, on one hand he had the order of the emperor, on the other hand he had a debt of gratitude to repay. At this moment, Yun Xiang suddenly came to find Liu Gongquan and said that their plans had changed, so they would temporarily suspend the first transaction, but the second one could be completed tonight, and he needed to mobilize his troops immediately.
Soon, the soldiers surrounded Kou Yuanjie's hiding place. In order to ensure his safety, Yue Wu decided to risk it alone and draw the soldiers away. Before leaving, she tearfully hugged him. Shadow appeared and followed Yue Wu, threatening to make her pay with her own blood. He then used a whistle to reveal her location, successfully luring Liu Gongquan. Yue Wu had planned to bite the poison and commit suicide, but Liu Gongquan quickly knocked her unconscious.
That night, Yun Xiang went to Shu Yanan's room and missed her. Since he couldn't explain the situation to the people in Liansheng Alley, he decided to vent his anger by dividing Shu Yanan's belongings and having Ke Menglan move into the room. The next day, Ke Menglan passed on a message from Yun Xiang to Su Mingyu, asking him to meet with Mo Bufan. Mo Bufan was sighing and complaining that all the small secrets he had saved up in his life had been exposed by Yun Xiang.
The two pretended to come to buy Gongbu, but just as they were about to question the source of the Gongbu, a group of people rushed in and surrounded them, with Guan Hai as the leader. After a conversation, Guan Hai truthfully revealed that Gongbu came from the hands of the Japanese. Su Mingyu promised to provide him with five thousand horses at a low price within a year, and cleverly dispelled Guan Hai's idea of turning them into slaves.
Since Shu Yanan left, Yun Xiang had been drinking every day, with his longing becoming a disease. Even the sobering soup cooked by Ke Menglan was sent away by him. Su Mingyu, as someone who had experienced similar feelings, comforted Yun Xiang. He reminded him that it was he who had originally helped him to wake up, and yet today, he was still stubbornly holding on. Later, Su Mingyu revealed to Yun Xiang that the soldiers had used Gongbu as a challenge to pledge allegiance to Guan Hai and become pirates, and that he had already negotiated a deal with Guan Hai to get him to hand over the people.
Upon hearing this, Yun Xiang stood up and drank the sobering soup alone before heading to the Mo family alone. At this moment, Mo Bufan learned that Shu Yanan came from Ling Yuan Ge and was immediately filled with uncontrollable anger, feeling upset for so long. Just as he was speaking, Yun Xiang stepped forward to defend Kang Qiao and explained the general situation. He felt that the style of the Lingyun faction was different from before and that their methods were somewhat similar to those of Yuntai.
After learning about this, Mo Bufan was extremely unhappy with Yun Xiang, feeling that he didn't want Shu Yanan to leave and even wished to tie her up and keep her by his side. Despite Yun Xiang's intelligence and cunning, he still couldn't predict his own emotions. Mo Bufan believed that if Shu Yanan was really from Ling Yuan, then the hundred-year-old grudges between Lingyun and Yuntai would stand in the way of their relationship.
Nevertheless, Yun Xiang still deeply loved Shu Yanan, and never hated her for concealing her identity. Even if she had deceived him, it didn't matter. Unfortunately, Shu Yanan was unaware of Yun Xiang's feelings. She met with Kou Yuanjie at the dock and was surprised to learn that Kou Yuanjie knew that Yuewu was trapped in prison but still didn't want to help her, saying that Yuewu had served him well for seven years.
Just as Shu Yanan was questioning when Kou Yuanjie had become so heartless, she suddenly saw her mother Kou Yan approaching from afar with her siblings and Nangong Fang returning to Lingyuan. With Nangong Fang by her side, Kou Yan angrily accused Kou Yuanjie of killing Ye Xiao and causing trouble in the capital city, warning her children with chopsticks.
To everyone's surprise, Nangong Fang took the initiative to speak up for his niece and nephew, believing that Shu Yanan was getting close to the Yun Tai disciples to understand their strengths and weaknesses, and punishing them was not appropriate. As for Kou Yuanjie's embezzlement of official funds, it was for the benefit of the family and not a big deal. However, Kou Yuanjie was completely unappreciative of Nangong Fang's defense and Kou Yan immediately ordered Kou Yuanjie to stop using a few of his seals and return to the north bank of the river without permission to cross.
After Nangong Fang and Kou Yuanjie left, Kou Yan spoke to Shu Yanan alone, curious if she had found a way to restrain Nangong Fang during her three-year absence. Shu Yanan admitted that she currently had no plan, and she knew that Lingyuan had been fighting against Yun Tai for nearly half a year for the restoration of the orthodox rule, and it was probably on its last legs before her mother inherited the position of the sect leader.
Therefore, Shu Yanan understood that Kou Yan was making good use of Nangong Fang for the sake of Lingyuan, and this person had indeed made great contributions, but his ambition was too great, gradually expanding and becoming difficult to control. Kou Yan could see that her son's intelligence and tactics were far inferior to her daughter's, and she hoped that Shu Yanan could stay by Nangong Fang's side, ostensibly to assist him in his work, but actually to secretly monitor his every move.
Episode 28 Recap
Yun Xiang spent his days drowning his sorrows in alcohol. When he woke up one morning, he discovered that he had damaged a model, leaving him feeling frustrated and disappointed. Liu Gongquan heard rumors that the official escort had found Yun Xiang and was about to inquire about his whereabouts. However, Yun Xiang suddenly changed the subject and said that the Tang family's old estate had been unsealed, and he hoped to be put in charge of its disposal.
However, Liu Gongquan was skeptical of what Yun Xiang said, as he appeared drunk and incoherent. Princess Mingzhu stepped in and pretended to scold Yun Xiang, saying that he was acting like a drunkard despite being a member of Yun Tai. Yun Xiang understood what Princess Mingzhu meant and revealed that the official escort had been tied up in the eastern suburbs of Nan Du City, not far from Yun Port.
Yun Xiang then called on Su Mingyu and others to discuss the situation. Mo Bufan discovered that Yun Xiang's antics were all part of a scheme to gain control of the Tang family's assets. Su Mingyu praised Yun Xiang for being clever enough to plan ahead and counterattack against Tang Xiao in their earlier gambling match. The situation had only escalated due to government interference.
However, Su Mingyu and Mo Bufan were both members of the Chamber of Commerce. They feared that if they openly seized the Tang family's assets, they would invite criticism from the public. Yun Xiang proposed a solution, requiring Su Mingyu and Mo Bufan to work together to put on a show. Just then, Ke Menglan brought over a pot of sweet soup that she had personally cooked. Knowing that Yun Xiang was heartbroken, Mo Bufan purposely praised the soup's sweetness to make Yun Xiang uncomfortable.
Liu Gongquan captured and interrogated the officials who were transporting the goods, asking one of them to confess the truth of the case. The person claimed that they were ambushed and drugged, and when they woke up, they found that the official silver was missing. They had no choice but to join the pirates with their cargo. According to the officials, there was a toxic gas with a fishy smell on the day of the incident. Liu Gongquan suspected that it was Ling Yuan's Dragon Scale Fragrance.
Under Yun Xiang's plan, Su Mingyu held a meeting to list Tang Xiao's numerous crimes. She mentioned that he was missing and worried that his assets would be idle if they were not unsealed. Mo Bufan took the opportunity to propose accepting the Tang family business. Anyone interested could join him in purchasing the assets. Everyone thought it was a losing deal, but in the end, Mo Bufan and Su Mingyu teamed up to legally transfer the Tang family assets to Mo Bufan's name.
Through this incident, Mo Bufan thought that Su Mingyu had improved a lot. He had learned from Yun Xiang's essence: to be worldly-wise and hold virtuous thoughts. However, Mo Bufan had some suspicions about the Qian Men. He approached Yun Xiang and revealed that he was sent by his master to monitor Yun Xiang's movements. But because of their close relationship, he did not disclose the truth. Later, he never received any reply from Yun Tai, and he was afraid that the master had already discovered everything.
Moreover, Mo Bufan felt that Yun Tai was not the same as before. In the past, the court regarded Yun Tai as a big threat and chased and cleansed him all the way. But at that time, the previous heads of the Qian Men did not hide their true identities from their people. In contrast, now that the relationship between the court and the Qian Men has eased, the current head of the Qian Men is more secretive in his actions, which makes people uneasy. Mo Bufan suspected that Ling Yuan was not stealing the Qian Men's techniques but was secretly taught by someone from within the Qian Men, intentionally blurring the boundaries between the two schools. Yun Xiang seemed to be deep in thought upon hearing this.
Kou Yan knew that Kou Yuanjie wanted to become the leader of the sect and promised him that he could step down if he could get close to him within a few moves. Kou Yuanjie's martial arts skills were clearly no match for Kou Yan, and because she had made him lose face in front of Nan Gongfang, he harbored resentment and killed a confidant who had followed Kou Yan for many years for no reason.
At this time, Shu Yanan and Nan Gongfang were riding in the same carriage back to the capital. Through conversation, she learned that his target this time was to deal with the three most powerful families in the capital, which were the Su family, Guanghui Village, and Yun Tai Yun Xiang. Nan Gongfang deliberately inquired about Yun Xiang's style of doing things from Shu Yanan to analyze his next move. For the sake of the interests of the sect, Shu Yanan had no choice but to cooperate fully.
Yun Xiang was still decadent, often getting drunk, and asked why Liu Gongquan had not yet carried out their third deal. Liu Gongquan did not understand why Yun Xiang wanted to use the power of the government to deal with Ling Yuan. Yun Xiang took out a model of the Luo Family Village gate plaque he had made himself and talked about the bloody case at Luo Family Village. This made Liu Gongquan somewhat moved and lamented that Yun Xiang's talent was a waste not being used by the government.
Therefore, Liu Gongquan took on the third deal and was willing to thoroughly investigate the truth of the Luo Family Village case on behalf of Yun Xiang. He also expressed that if he ever needed Yun Xiang's help in the future, he hoped that Yun Xiang would have to give his full support. Later, the two arrived at the government dungeon and happened to see the officials stopping Yue Wu from biting his tongue to commit suicide.
Jin Biao and Tian Hu continued to take care of the children at Jishan Hall. Tian Hu noticed that Jin Biao's wrist was injured and took the initiative to apply medicine for him. They both had affection for each other. That night, Jin Biao returned to Liansheng Lane and saw Yun Xiang heavily drunk. Although he did not understand what had happened between him and Shu Yanan, he still tried to persuade him to take care of himself. Jin Biao confided in Yun Xiang and expressed that he no longer wanted to live the life of a swordsman and only wanted to cherish the present.
Episode 29 Recap
Princess Mingzhu was curious about what Yun Xiang meant by the bait, and he replied that it was the female bandit from Ling Yuan, and he had a plan. Later, Yun Xiang met with Shu Yanan alone, hoping that they could start over and not pursue what had happened in the past. However, Shu Yanan confessed that she was behind Ling Yuan's century-old business and was destined to always obey her mother.
Therefore, in Shu Yanan's view, she and Yun Xiang were destined to go their separate ways, standing on their own positions and becoming opponents. She also hoped that Yun Xiang would forget about her completely. Yun Xiang asked Shu Yanan why she still wore the hairpin he gave her if she was really heartless. Shu Yanan suppressed her inner sadness, pushed Yun Xiang away, and turned to leave.
Episode 30 Recap
Yun Xiang traced the bigger person behind the scenes and found out that it was the emperor's own younger brother, Lord Fu. It was because of this that Yun Xiang took the initiative to find Kou Yuanjie and admired how much Ling Yuan had changed. Even the prince could be won over. In fact, the Kou family had no idea that Nangong Fang was in cahoots with Lord Fu. Yun Xiang speculated that it was Lord Fu who requested two imperial edicts to suppress the Su family in order to pave the way for Nangong Fang, whose power in the entire Jiangnan region was mostly based on Lord Fu.
However, Yun Xiang couldn't understand what benefit Lord Fu, as a prince, had in colluding with Ling Yuan. Kou Yuanjie thought that Lord Fu might not know Nangong Fang's true identity. In order to completely overthrow Nangong Fang, Yun Xiang suggested teaming up with Kou Yuanjie and waiting for the right time to plan their next move. Meanwhile, Mo Bufan's Guanghui Manor was suddenly destroyed.
Episode 31 Recap
Nangong Fang originally wanted to buy the silk fabric from the Su family, but Su Mingyu refused to sell it to him. So Nangong Fang went to Lord Fu to borrow money, intending to bribe the weavers of the Su family with a large sum. Yun Xiang had already anticipated this and secretly discussed a plan with Lord Fu. Once Nangong Fang came to borrow money, Yun Xiang would make him use his own funds first. Princess Mingzhu admired Yun Xiang's previous strategy, and now with Nangong Fang's ambiguous identity, she instructed her father to follow Yun Xiang's advice.
Yun Xiang wanted to pay a visit to Ling Yuan's stronghold, which was extremely dangerous. He first thought of seeking help from Kou Yanjie. Kou Yanjie had some martial arts skills and was known for his meticulous thinking. Initially, Kou Yanjie was reluctant to venture into the dangerous territory. However, Yun Xiang offered an enticing proposition, guaranteeing him a smooth succession to the position of Ling Yuan's leader. Kou Yanjie had long coveted the position of the leader and immediately agreed to accompany Yun Xiang on this journey.
Having Kou Yanjie alone is not safe enough. This person is cunning and crafty, likely to be distracted. So, of course, Yun Xiang will bring Jin Biao along. This time, he still offered a reward of ten taels of gold per day. Jin Biao insisted that Yun Xiang reveal his entire plan, or else he would not take the job. Yun Xiang and Jin Biao shared a deep trust, so Yun Xiang disclosed all the details of his journey to him. Jin Biao finally understood Yun Xiang. Strictly speaking, he was not a member of Yun Tai. Yun Xiang's real name was Luo Wenjia. He had been concealing his true identity within Yun Tai for fifteen years, all with the purpose of one day uncovering the truth behind the massacre at Luo Village.
Princess Mingzhu secretly went to the Su family and provided them with substantial financial support. Ke Menglan and Su Mingyu were hesitant to accept, expressing that their current situation was all thanks to Lord Fu. Impressed by their integrity, Princess Mingzhu insisted that they accept the support and advised them to rest assured. As for Lord Fu's ultimate goal, it was currently inconvenient to disclose.

Impressed by their integrity, Princess Mingzhu insisted that they accept the support and advised them to rest assured. As for Lord Fu's ultimate goal, it was currently inconvenient to disclose.
Shu Yanan's undercover agent, who was sent out, learned that Princess Mingzhu had visited the Su family and brought a large amount of silver notes. The agent immediately informed Nangong Fang about this news. It seemed that Lord Fu was making hidden moves, first suppressing the Su family and then secretly supporting them. It was possible that he had other motives and might have already suspected something about them. Nangong Fang pretended to be surprised and claimed that he had already gathered all the silver and transferred it to a foreign boat. It would be troublesome if Yun Xiang's people found out. Shu Yanan was also anxious, so Nangong Fang handed his jade pendant to her and urged her to immediately go to Yangzhou and destroy those important pieces of information. With the situation urgent, Shu Yanan hurriedly left.
In the previous moment, Nangong Fang appeared restless, but as soon as Shu Yanan left, he regained his composure. Indeed, he had been planning to get rid of Shu Yanan, and this was a perfect opportunity. Besides the undercover agent, he needed to come up with another plan.
Yun Xiang helped Kou Yan find all of Nangong Fang's businesses and assets, listing over twenty commercial enterprises on paper. With his scheme in place, Kou Yan's sinister nature emerged. He had already given Jin Biao a potion called "Hearts' Desire," similar to the poison used during the Tian Hu incident. Kou Yan ordered Jin Biao to kill Yun Xiang and then commit suicide. Jin Biao was about to act, but fortunately, Yun Xiang had secretly hidden a pill for Jin Biao to take, which temporarily helped stabilize his mental state.
Episode 32 Recap
Yun Xiang had previously heard Shu Yanan talk about the medicinal ingredients required for the antidote to the Heart-Devouring Powder. He quickly went to the pharmacy to obtain the ingredients. However, it took an hour to decoct the medicine. Yun Xiang took the ingredients and hurriedly went to find Jin Biao. Jin Biao was being controlled by Kou Yan's men. After killing a wave of pursuers, another wave came. Jin Biao did his best to lead Yun Xiang and escape, while trying to stay alert. There were still pursuers behind them, and Yun Xiang himself was poisoned by the Heart-Devouring Powder. His mind alternated between clarity and confusion.
When Jin Biao's mind was unclear, he constantly heard Kou Yan's words echoing in his ears, telling him to kill Yun Xiang and then commit suicide. Jin Biao's body gradually lost control, and the knife in his hand would always want to swing towards Yun Xiang beside him. However, the remaining trace of his will in his mind repeatedly reminded him not to harm Yun Xiang. Yun Xiang watched Jin Biao's agony, feeling heartbroken. He was determined to save Jin Biao no matter what. However, the pursuers kept coming from behind, and if they delayed any longer, none of them would be able to escape. Jin Biao pushed Yun Xiang onto the boat and urged him to leave quickly. He made it clear that only if Yun Xiang left, would everyone have a chance to survive.
The process of the fierce battle was exceptionally bloody. Jin Biao was already critically ill, but he fought with all his might, risking his life, to protect Yun Xiang and buy him time to escape. Finally, when he saw Yun Xiang's boat getting far away, he collapsed exhausted on the ground. The pursuers behind him thrust their knives into Jin Biao's chest, and wave after wave of pursuers closed in on him. Jin Biao couldn't defend himself at all.
When Yun Xiang went to fetch reinforcements and returned, he couldn't find Jin Biao, only picking up a sheath. Seeing the bloodstains on it, it was evident how brutal the fighting had been. The people who came back with Yun Xiang said that the scene was filled with blood, and the bodies had been cleared away. Yun Xiang, holding onto the sole sheath, returned to Liansheng Alley in a dazed and lost state.
Yun Xiang locked the door to the room. He placed the sheath on the opposite side of the table and poured two cups of wine. He recalled Jin Biao's former boldness and cheerfulness, now sacrificed to save him. Yun Xiang felt deeply remorseful. Though others saw him as someone with compassion and righteousness, Yun Xiang knew that his heart was only filled with the pursuit of personal gain. It was because of him that Jin Biao had lost his life. Yun Xiang felt immense guilt and made the decision to become sworn brothers with Jin Biao. Even though Jin Biao was no longer present, Yun Xiang resolved to regard him as an elder brother.
Yun Xiang meticulously rewrote a list of all the properties owned by Nangong Fang from his memory and immediately sent it to Lord Fu. However, the place was already deserted. Liu Gongquan personally summoned Yun Xiang. He had investigated the truth behind the massacre at Luo Family Village, as he had promised Yun Xiang before. He had now uncovered the facts. It turned out that it wasn't just Luo Family Village that had been wiped out. Eight imperial officials were involved in a dispute and suffered collective punishment. Luo Family Village was one of them. It was an act carried out by the Court of Imperial Censors, not solely by Nangong Fang.
Finally, Yun Xiang understood why Wen Cong had opposed his investigation into the truth. Reality was not as Yun Xiang had imagined. According to their initial agreement, Yun Xiang still needed to assist Liu Gongquan with something. Liu Gongquan revealed that the emperor had started to fear Lord Fu's rebellious ambitions. He asked Yun Xiang to discreetly investigate Lord Fu's weaknesses. Lord Fu harbored sinister intentions and had been plotting for many years. His influence was deeply rooted and complex. Once provoked, it would undoubtedly lead to a bloody turmoil within the court. Liu Gongquan didn't believe he could succeed alone and sought Yun Xiang's help in planning. The turmoil in the court was not the most frightening aspect; the people would suffer greatly amidst the chaos.
Kou Yuanjie obtained Nangong Fang's list of properties and immediately handed it over to Kou Yan to claim credit. Kou Yan was afraid that Yun Tai's people would get hold of the list and seize Nangong Fang's properties in advance, so he decided to take action first. Shu Yanan believed that Nangong Fang was highly cunning and wouldn't let them easily obtain the list. She advised her mother to wait a little longer, but Kou Yan was already consumed by greed and couldn't wait for even a moment.
Yun Xiang discerned the truth behind the tragic incident at Luo's Manor, so he entrusted the properties of Liansheng Lane to Menglan and Su Mingyu, hoping they would help manage Jishan Hall. Su Mingyu had been following Yun Xiang all the way, and in several crises, it was Yun Xiang who remained calm and made all the strategic decisions, contrary to what he claimed as "solely for personal gain." Together, they saw Yun Xiang off outside the door, and he sat alone in the carriage, watching the signboard of Liansheng Lane grow distant.
Recently, the Sect Master of Yuntai has summoned influential individuals from various places back to the sect, including Yun Xiang and Mo Bufan. Mo Bufan quietly informed Yun Xiang that it seems there is going to be a change, as the Sect Master seems prepared to reveal his true identity.
Episode 33 Recap
Initially, Kou Yan disregarded Shu Yanan's advice and stubbornly engaged in actions that nearly brought disaster upon the clan. The consecutive failures have depleted Ling Yuan's resources, and supplies from various branches have been cut off. Kou Yan decided to form an alliance with Yun Tai, which could bring a glimmer of hope. Kou Yan's malicious deeds have made him somewhat uneasy, so he intentionally instigated Kou Yan to let Shu Yanan investigate the truth before making any plans. However, the journey to Yun Tai is fraught with danger, and Kou Yan naturally doesn't want to see his daughter risking her life. Therefore, he immediately led dozens of loyal warriors to embark on the journey.
At this moment, everyone in Yun Tai gathered in the main hall, awaiting the appearance of the sect leader, only to discover that it was Lord Fu. Yun Tai had a rule prohibiting any interaction with the imperial court, so when a royal prince became the sect leader, it caused everyone to have doubts in their hearts. Senior member of Yun Tai, Zhong Beidou, angrily questioned Lord Fu about his true intentions. Upon hearing that he had intentions of usurping the throne, Zhong Beidou, who had always been upright and uncompromising, immediately turned and left in a huff.
After Lord Fu announced the plan, he privately met with Yun Xiang and subtly inquired whether he would be willing to follow along. In fact, Yun Xiang had already anticipated this. When Lord Fu ordered Wen Cong's death and instructed Nangong Fang to gather the account books, it was all a ploy to lure the enemy out into the open. Cleverly, it resulted in transferring a majority of Ling Yuan's assets under the name of Yun Tai.
Due to the intricate and clever arrangement, Yun Xiang no longer appeared as confident as before, so he pretended to be pleased and genuinely convinced. Similarly, when Lord Fu heard Yun Xiang's thorough analysis of his plan, he couldn't help but sigh inwardly. This person possessed extraordinary talent, and if he could truly be used for his own purposes, even the throne of the emperor, the highest authority, would be within easy reach.
Nowadays, there is an undercurrent of turmoil within the imperial court. Many prominent officials in the southern capital have either gone missing or lost their lives, all at the hands of Lord Fu. In addition to that, Lord Fu ordered the assassination of Lord Shao in the southern capital and designated the Su family as the imperial merchants. Upon hearing this news, Liu Gonggong hastily wrote a letter to Empress Guo, unaware that there were people plotting to assassinate him from behind.
Fortunately, at a critical moment, Liu Gongquan stepped forward to save Liu Gonggong and accompanied him back to report to Empress Guo, revealing that Yun Tai's leader was actually Lord Fu in disguise. Yun Xiang particularly reminded Liu Gongquan that Lord Fu was about to take action and that he had been involved with pirates before. Strengthening maritime defense would undoubtedly be of utmost importance.
When Kou Yan arrived at Yun Tai with Shu Yanan and Kou Yuanjie, Nangong Fang personally greeted them at the entrance. As Kou Yan's identity as a disciple of Yun Tai was now revealed, he had to endure humiliation due to Lord Fu's status and power. At the alliance meeting in Yun Tai, Lord Fu persuaded Kou Yan to join the official affairs of Yun Tai, but his true intention was to leverage their influence in the maritime industry and gain control over the entire shipping business. Kou Yan had no choice but to promise loyalty to Lord Fu.
That night, Yun Xiang met with Shu Yanan and asked for her opinion on the alliance. They both agreed that they didn't want to see more suffering and casualties. Yun Xiang invited Shu Yanan to the riverside to admire the moon and feel the breeze, deliberately avoiding any mention of past events. Instead, he revealed that his long-sought enemy was Nangong Fang. He explained that Ling Yuan had the option to cooperate with Lord Fu or with him, and by doing so, they could prevent Lord Fu's rebellion.
After this period of time, Yun Xiang had fully realized his feelings for Shu Yanan. He pulled her into his embrace, and as Shu Yanan recalled the past grievances, tears streamed down her face. Eventually, the misunderstanding between them was resolved, and Shu Yanan returned to Yun Xiang's side, vowing never to leave or abandon him. The next morning, Shu Yanan took out the hairpin that Yun Xiang had given her. Kou Yan, knowing about her feelings for Yun Xiang, sincerely hoped that his daughter would find happiness.
As Kou Yan delayed making a decision on whether to form an alliance, Nangong Fang privately approached Kou Yan and instigated him to seize power by killing his mother, with the assistance of Yun Tai to secure the position of sect leader. Meanwhile, Zhong Beidou intended to take his disciples and leave Yun Tai, but unexpectedly, his most trusted disciple, Gu Yuechen, betrayed him, inflicting several fatal wounds that led to his demise.
Kang Qiao, filled with anger, intervened, and Kou Yan gradually found himself at a disadvantage. Sensing the unfavorable situation, he resorted to holding a dagger against Mo Bufan's neck, using his life as a bargaining chip, and forced Kang Qiao to surrender. Unable to bear seeing Mo Bufan harmed, Kang Qiao eventually lowered his sword. Lord Fu's followers, witnessing this, launched a surprise attack on Kang Qiao and subsequently killed him. Mo Bufan watched in despair as Kang Qiao was pierced to death by random swords. He rushed forward, embracing Kang Qiao's lifeless body in deep grief, while Nangong Fang observed the entire scene without interference until Lord Fu stepped in to stop Kou Yan from attacking Mo Bufan.
Episode 34 Recap
Kang Qiao has died, still falling victim to Yun Tai's fellow disciples. Mo Bufan is utterly devastated and carries Kang Qiao's corpse back to the room. Lord Fu tries to extract information from Mo Bufan, but fails to get any clues. After Lord Fu leaves, Mo Bufan cleans Kang Qiao's body and hangs a white silk between the rafters, preparing to end his own miserable life.
Yun Xiang arrived in time after hearing the news. Mo Bufan, mindful of their past friendship, personally pours a cup of wine for Yun Xiang, expressing how he once regarded Yun Tai as his refuge. Little did he know that it would turn out to be a den of tigers and wolves, with no hope in sight. Yun Xiang asks Mo Bufan if he has considered saving the people from distress and urges him to join forces to stop Lord Fu's rebellion. Indeed, Yun Xiang's words change Mo Bufan's mind. He knows that Lord Fu is suspicious and won't trust Yun Xiang, so he decides to grant Yun Xiang a few more days to live.
As Mo Bufan had anticipated, Lord Fu had already grown suspicious of Yun Xiang and even sent Princess Mingzhu to test him. She reminded him that if he were to receive an assignment to go to the Southern Capital, he must find ways to refuse it. Yun Xiang deduced the purpose of Princess Mingzhu's visit and deliberately proclaimed his unwavering loyalty to Lord Fu, emphasizing his commitment as a disciple of Yun Tai.
Su Mingyu suddenly received news from Lord Fu, confirming that the Su family would become the imperial merchants. Soon after, Liu Gongquan personally visited the Su family and revealed to Su Mingyu the difficulties Yun Xiang faced in Yun Tai, as well as Lord Fu's plan to rebel. Su Mingyu was concerned for Yun Xiang's safety and unwilling to compromise with Lord Fu. He discussed with Ke Menglan a plan to strike at the root and joined forces with Liu Gongquan to confront Lord Fu.
Several days passed in the blink of an eye, and Kou Yan had yet to express his stance to Lord Fu. Lord Fu directly summoned Kou Yuanjie and inquired about Ling Yuan's true intentions. Kou Yuanjie was eager to form an alliance, considering that Lord Fu's power and support could be advantageous. Nangong Fang suggested that Kou Yuanjie should be straightforward and open in his approach. Kou Yuanjie candidly stated that he aspired to succeed as the head of Ling Yuan Pavilion.
As soon as the words were spoken, Mo Bufan pretended to be insane and foolishly rushed in, publicly berating Lord Fu for his cunning and exposing Yun Xiang and Nangong Fang's disloyalty to Lord Fu. Since Mo Bufan had been loyal to Yun Tai for over a decade, Lord Fu couldn't bring himself to take action against him directly and instead ordered him to be confined to his room. Yun Xiang realized that Mo Bufan was seeking death and secretly discussed a plan with Shu Yanan. Shu Yanan gave him a potent poison that, when consumed, would induce a fake death for three days, providing an opportunity to rescue him.
Sure enough, not long after, Lord Fu summoned Yun Xiang to meet him. To test his loyalty, Lord Fu deliberately instructed him to bring a poisoned wine to kill Mo Bufan. Subsequently, Yun Xiang went to Mo Bufan's room and took out the hidden poison he had kept in his bosom, stating that this poison could make a person fake their death for three days, and then it would be sent out of Yun Tai.
Mo Bufan knew well that it would be difficult to deceive Lord Fu. In order to ensure Yun Xiang's safety, he directly picked up the poisoned wine and drank it all. Upon hearing the sound of the cup shattering, Yun Xiang turned back in shock and saw Mo Bufan bleeding from seven orifices, causing great sorrow in his heart. Soon, his subordinates reported the news of Mo Bufan's death to Lord Fu, and for the time being, Lord Fu eased his vigilance towards Yun Xiang.
Shu Yanan persuaded her mother to form an alliance with Yun Xiang. Considering that Yun Xiang needed to learn about the coastal defense deployment from Nangong Fang, she decided to personally deal with Nangong Fang. Kou Yanjie discovered that Kou Yan had already entrusted the signet to Shu Yanan. Under the instigation of Nangong Fang, Kou Yanjie gradually developed a desire to kill Kou Yan.
Nangong Fang intentionally used a strategy of luring the tiger out of the mountain to distract Shu Yanan. In return for Nangong Fang's assistance and to eliminate the troublesome Shu Yanan, Kou Yanjie decided to give him the "Heart-Devouring Powder." Unaware of the abnormality in the drink, Shu Yanan fell into a coma after being poisoned by the "Heart-Devouring Powder." Nangong Fang had no intention towards Shu Yanan, but harbored long-standing hatred towards Yun Xiang. Since Shu Yanan was the woman Yun Xiang loved, Nangong Fang wanted Yun Xiang to see his beloved being possessed by himself. At the same time, a large group of assassins surrounded Kou Yan's room.
Episode 35 Recap
Kou Yan heard movement outside the room and thought it was Yun Tai's people trying to coerce her into submission. There were many assassins, and the attacks were relentless. Kou Yan used all his skills to defeat them. Suddenly, Kou Yuanjie arrived. Kou Yan was grateful to see his son dutifully protecting her at every turn. However, when Kou Yuanjie found her off guard, he personally plunged a dagger deep into Kou Yan's chest.
Throughout her life, Kou Yan had killed countless people and faced numerous dangers alone. She never imagined that she would meet her end at the hands of her own son. Looking at her disappointing child, Kou Yan felt immense guilt for not taking better care of him. She blamed herself for inadequate guidance. As her life slipped away, she gently caressed Kou Yuanjie's cheek one last time before slowly falling to the ground.
Shu Yanan drank the poisoned wine provided by Nangong Fang. However, she had already taken the antidote beforehand, so she didn't fall into Nangong Fang's trap. Hearing Nangong Fang's lewd words, Shu Yanan swiftly struck him down and castrated him, administering a fake death poison to ensure his demise. After completing everything, as Shu Yanan left Nangong Fang's room, she realized that the aphrodisiac powder found on him was given by her younger brother. Worried that her brother might harm their mother, she immediately rushed to see her, only to discover that their mother had already been killed, with her brother's dagger still lodged in her chest.
New grudges and old resentments surged forth. In the face of the current major situation, Shu Yanan, besides harboring resentment, displayed a calm and composed demeanor. Lord Fu still hadn't dispelled his suspicions about Yun Xiang, so he called him over to interrogate him about his next plans. Yun Xiang deliberately revealed only partial information and claimed ignorance about the rest. As a result, Lord Fu had no reason to eliminate him completely.
While Lord Fu was conversing with Yun Xiang, his subordinate suddenly reported that both Kou Yan and Nangong Fang had died. Lord Fu personally inspected their bodies. Kou Yan's death was naturally within his expectations, but Nangong Fang's demise was rather suspicious. Although Shu Yanan provided truthful information, it was not enough to dispel Lord Fu's doubts.
The people around had already withdrawn, and Yun Xiang knew what Lord Fu was suspicious about. He revealed the incident of the Luo family's extermination and claimed to be a member of the Luo family. He explained that his primary purpose for going to the Southern Capital was to secretly investigate the truth behind the massacre of the Luo family. In the end, he discovered the true culprit, Nangong Fang. It was revealed that Nangong Fang had committed many wicked deeds in order to seize their family's assets, which led to Yun Xiang harboring a deep grudge for the murder of his father. Naturally, he couldn't sit idly by. Yun Xiang's explanation completely eased Lord Fu's vigilance. With his family's vengeance weighing heavily on his heart, Yun Xiang had endured humiliation and swallowed his pride in order to one day seek revenge and settle the score.
After a few days, Lord Fu instructed Yun Xiang to return to the Southern Capital to prepare for the rebellion. Now that Nangong Fang was dead, there was no one to help organize the uprising in the Southern Capital. Lord Fu arranged for Kou Yanjie to lead the various factions in the uprising. With his reputation as the leader of the Ling Yuan faction, Kou Yanjie seemed indifferent and uninterested in the rebellion.
One day, someone brought him an unidentified liquid found in Shu Yanan's room. Kou Yanjie opened the bottle and discovered that it was actually Hanlin Drink, a poison from their Ling Yuan faction. Consuming it would result in a three-day period of fake death. Kou Yanjie suddenly suspected that Nangong Fang might have been poisoned. He immediately ordered his men to dig up Nangong Fang's grave, only to find it empty. This further confirmed that Shu Yanan had kidnapped Nangong Fang. Kou Yanjie swiftly gathered some men and rode in the direction where Shu Yanan was heading, chasing after her.
Su Mingyu sold all of his belongings and began selling property deeds at the trading firm. Lord Fu's spy was unclear about what he was doing, so Su Mingyu showed them the military supplies he had purchased. The spy thought that Su Mingyu was selling his assets to win Lord Fu's favor and gain a minor official position, thus relaxing their vigilance.
Ke Menglan quietly handed over the accumulated silver to Tianhu, a member of the Ji Shan Tang. She instructed Tianhu to take good care of the children and advised him not to visit or inquire about the Su family, regardless of any future events. Tianhu understood from Ke Menglan's eyes that something was about to happen. With Jin Biao's sudden death, Tianhu matured overnight. He nodded, promising to prioritize the overall situation.
Shu Yanan and Yun Xiang escorted Kou Yan's coffin towards the direction of Nan Du. When they reached the riverside, they ordered the team to halt. Before long, Kou Yanjie caught up with them. He showed no mercy and insisted that Shu Yanan open Kou Yan's coffin to see if Nangong Fang was inside. Kou Yanjie engaged in a fierce battle with Shu Yanan but was unable to gain the upper hand. He resorted to threatening Yun Xiang's life, but Liu Gongquan intervened in time and saved Yun Xiang. Shu Yanan personally dealt with Kou Yanjie.
Finally, after taking care of Kou Yan's affairs, night fell. Shu Yanan stood by her mother's grave, feeling a sense of peace and tranquility. After so many days, she had grown tired of the deceitful life and decided to disband the branch the next day and retreat to a peaceful life. Seeing that she had made up her mind, Yun Xiang handed a silk pouch to Shu Yanan and told her to keep it safe.
Episode 36 (Ending) Recap
Lord Fu learned that Su Mingyu set fire to the entire Su family's warehouse. Not only that, all the military supplies in Nandu were destroyed overnight. Lord Fu sighed, recognizing this as a typical trick used by Yun Tai. He naturally guessed that it must be Yun Xiang who was behind this mischief. The original plan was to station in Nandu, but now it was no longer possible. Lord Fu had no choice but to go to a more distant place to procure military weapons and replenish provisions.
Three days later, Lord Nangong finally regained consciousness. He was well aware that his body was already in a frail state. He instructed someone to bring Shu Yanan to him, with Yun Xiang by his side, reminding him whether he knew the whereabouts of the pirate leader Guan. Lord Nangong remained silent. Yun Xiang devised a plan and explained the current situation to the Empress, proposing that she collaborate with him to stage a play.
The Empress personally promised that as long as Lord Nangong could make the pirates retreat and dissolve the alliance with Lord Fu, she would naturally guarantee his lifelong honor and wealth. Lord Nangong understood the current situation well and finally proposed to personally meet with the pirate leader, Guan.
Princess Mingzhu secretly went to meet Liu Gongquan, hoping that he would show mercy considering their past friendship. Liu Gongquan was loyal to the Empress, and he admitted that he had no grudge or hatred towards Lord Fu. At present, his intentions were also for the sake of peace and prosperity in the world. Mingzhu chose her father. He was her only family, and although Liu Gongquan tried to persuade her to stay for her safety, she insisted on risking her life and eventually returned home.
Lord Fu executed the inefficient officials in the government office of Nandu, closed the city gates, and has now completely rebelled. He is relentlessly pursuing Su Mingyu and Menglan. Finally, Su Mingyu and Menglan found themselves surrounded by rebel forces, with no way out. Just as they were on the verge of being trapped, Jin Biao suddenly appeared. He first had his subordinates rescue Menglan and then joined forces with Su Mingyu to eliminate the pursuers. Not only did they have the assistance of Jin Biao, but Qian Rong also arrived. With his exceptional martial arts skills, victory for Su Mingyu was undoubtedly certain.
Yun Xiang was confident that it would be difficult for Lord Nangong to persuade the pirate leader Guan to retreat. Lord Nangong was clever enough to see through the recent collaboration between Yun Xiang and the Empress, so Yun Xiang decided to employ the strategy of an empty city. Lord Nangong became worried that Yun Xiang and the Empress had already come up with countermeasures and were planning to trap him. As a result, he dared not act recklessly and refrain from urging Guan, the pirate leader, to rebel.
Yun Xiang went alone to meet Lord Fu, and the two sat face-to-face. Lord Fu sensed that Yun Xiang had the upper hand, and indeed, they made a bet on whether Guan, the pirate leader, would form an alliance and initiate an attack. Yun Xiang won the bet. Based on his understanding of human nature, Yun Xiang spared Lord Nangong's life in the first place, intending to use him as a pawn to turn the losing situation into a winning one. Lord Fu, admitting his defeat, was impressed by Yun Xiang's mastery of strategy, which had reached a remarkable level.
That night, Lord Fu's palace was engulfed in a raging fire. Following his final request, Yun Xiang promised to ensure the safety of Princess Mingzhu and had Jin Biao secretly rescue her from the flames. With the rebels eliminated, Nandu regained its former tranquility. The Empress was naturally overjoyed and prepared to reward the meritorious individuals. She inquired about Liu Gongquan and Yun Xiang's future plans. Liu Gongquan expressed his continued dedication to serving the country, while Yun Xiang affirmed his commitment to being Liu Gongquan's right-hand man, steadfastly guarding the borders of the kingdom. The Empress was delighted to hear this.
Finally, the Empress returned to the Northern Capital, and Yun Xiang bid farewell to Liu Gongquan. Knowing that Yun Xiang was not one to be confined, Liu Gongquan granted him his freedom. At last, Yun Xiang reunited with Jin Biao and Su Mingyu. The three of them became sworn brothers. Tian Hu also arrived, and when Jin Biao saw Tian Hu, their eyes met and tears welled up.
Su Mingyu asked about Yun Xiang's plans, and he openly admitted that there would no longer be a person named "Yun Xiang" in the martial world. Reflecting on the memories and moments shared with Shu Yanan, Yun Xiang had come to a profound understanding. He was ready to spend his life with Shu Yanan.
In a tranquil bamboo forest, with the melodious chirping of birds in her ears, Shu Yanan savored the serenity of the moment. She gently removed a hairpin and examined it closely. Suddenly, she heard familiar footsteps behind her. The person she had been waiting for had finally arrived!
