Kang Qiao has died, still falling victim to Yun Tai's fellow disciples. Mo Bufan is utterly devastated and carries Kang Qiao's corpse back to the room. Lord Fu tries to extract information from Mo Bufan, but fails to get any clues. After Lord Fu leaves, Mo Bufan cleans Kang Qiao's body and hangs a white silk between the rafters, preparing to end his own miserable life.

Yun Xiang arrived in time after hearing the news. Mo Bufan, mindful of their past friendship, personally pours a cup of wine for Yun Xiang, expressing how he once regarded Yun Tai as his refuge. Little did he know that it would turn out to be a den of tigers and wolves, with no hope in sight. Yun Xiang asks Mo Bufan if he has considered saving the people from distress and urges him to join forces to stop Lord Fu's rebellion. Indeed, Yun Xiang's words change Mo Bufan's mind. He knows that Lord Fu is suspicious and won't trust Yun Xiang, so he decides to grant Yun Xiang a few more days to live.

As Mo Bufan had anticipated, Lord Fu had already grown suspicious of Yun Xiang and even sent Princess Mingzhu to test him. She reminded him that if he were to receive an assignment to go to the Southern Capital, he must find ways to refuse it. Yun Xiang deduced the purpose of Princess Mingzhu's visit and deliberately proclaimed his unwavering loyalty to Lord Fu, emphasizing his commitment as a disciple of Yun Tai.

Su Mingyu suddenly received news from Lord Fu, confirming that the Su family would become the imperial merchants. Soon after, Liu Gongquan personally visited the Su family and revealed to Su Mingyu the difficulties Yun Xiang faced in Yun Tai, as well as Lord Fu's plan to rebel. Su Mingyu was concerned for Yun Xiang's safety and unwilling to compromise with Lord Fu. He discussed with Ke Menglan a plan to strike at the root and joined forces with Liu Gongquan to confront Lord Fu.

Several days passed in the blink of an eye, and Kou Yan had yet to express his stance to Lord Fu. Lord Fu directly summoned Kou Yuanjie and inquired about Ling Yuan's true intentions. Kou Yuanjie was eager to form an alliance, considering that Lord Fu's power and support could be advantageous. Nangong Fang suggested that Kou Yuanjie should be straightforward and open in his approach. Kou Yuanjie candidly stated that he aspired to succeed as the head of Ling Yuan Pavilion.

As soon as the words were spoken, Mo Bufan pretended to be insane and foolishly rushed in, publicly berating Lord Fu for his cunning and exposing Yun Xiang and Nangong Fang's disloyalty to Lord Fu. Since Mo Bufan had been loyal to Yun Tai for over a decade, Lord Fu couldn't bring himself to take action against him directly and instead ordered him to be confined to his room. Yun Xiang realized that Mo Bufan was seeking death and secretly discussed a plan with Shu Yanan. Shu Yanan gave him a potent poison that, when consumed, would induce a fake death for three days, providing an opportunity to rescue him.

Sure enough, not long after, Lord Fu summoned Yun Xiang to meet him. To test his loyalty, Lord Fu deliberately instructed him to bring a poisoned wine to kill Mo Bufan. Subsequently, Yun Xiang went to Mo Bufan's room and took out the hidden poison he had kept in his bosom, stating that this poison could make a person fake their death for three days, and then it would be sent out of Yun Tai.

Mo Bufan knew well that it would be difficult to deceive Lord Fu. In order to ensure Yun Xiang's safety, he directly picked up the poisoned wine and drank it all.
