The Legend of Taotie Episode 2 Recap
> The Legend of Taotie Recap
The Langya King, Zhao Heng, visited Zhu Chengbi, bringing along two small sea turtles and requesting her to cook them. Zhu Chengbi took one glance at the turtles and refused immediately, pointing out that these had been dried for so long they were no better than ham and not worth her effort in cooking. She suggested that Zhao Heng have his household chef prepare them instead. Despite being politely shown the door, Zhao Heng had no intention of leaving.
He even ordered his guards to search Tianxiang Tower. Fortunately, Zhu Chengbi’s two clever maidservants quickly hid the mermaid in a fish tank, preventing her from being discovered. Zhao Heng left empty-handed. Upon returning, he consulted Xu Shuying, a scholar known for his knowledge of mythical beasts. When Zhao Heng inquired about the origin of the Lotus Heart Tower, Xu Shuying explained that the fall of the tower marked the emergence of the Black Ridge King, signaling great danger.
Xu also recounted the story of how Lian Deng had sacrificed his body and blood to seal the tower. Additionally, rumors circulated that the proprietress of Tianxiang Tower, Zhu Chengbi, was the reincarnation of Taotie. Two days later, Gao Zong, consumed by guilt and longing for his wife, returned to Tianxiang Tower to reclaim the mermaid.
Tearfully, he confessed to Zhu Chengbi his deep regret for bringing his wife there and declared that he now understood she was an irreplaceable treasure. The mermaid, overhearing his heartfelt words, believed him and willingly followed him back home. Meanwhile, Jia Lian, who had been plagued by recurring nightmares, heard that consuming a mermaid could alleviate his suffering. Determined to acquire mermaid flesh, he began scheming and reaching out to anyone who could help him achieve his goal.
Zhao Heng returned to Tianxiang Tower once again, bringing two pieces of prime meat. Zhu Chengbi personally cooked the meat into a dish so exquisite it melted in the mouth. Both being connoisseurs of fine cuisine, Zhao Heng and Zhu Chengbi shared a deep appreciation for the art of cooking. Zhao Heng then proposed that Zhu Chengbi prepare the mermaid for him, and this time, she did not refuse.
After Zhao Heng left, Chang Qing immediately warned Zhu Chengbi against harboring murderous intentions. He reminded her that while she could consume mythical beasts, the mermaid A Jiao now possessed human emotions and should not be treated as food. Though Chang Qing’s reasoning was sound, Zhu Chengbi, driven by hunger, was unwilling to listen. The two argued fiercely, and in frustration, Zhu Chengbi stormed off to the Lotus Heart Tower.
Whenever Zhu Chengbi had something on her mind, she would visit the Lotus Heart Tower, speaking as though Lian Deng were still there to listen. This time, she chastised the monk for leaving her to guard the tower while depriving her of the pleasures of fine cuisine. However, her solitude was interrupted by Zhao Heng’s arrival. Weakened from days without food, Zhu Chengbi nearly fainted, and Zhao Heng carried her back to Tianxiang Tower.
Meanwhile, the city was abuzz with guards searching for the mermaid. It wasn’t just Zhao Heng’s men; even the mermaid clan had begun searching for A Jiao. Since the mermaid clan’s weapons were no match for human tools, they soon gave up on A Jiao, allowing Gao Zong and her to reunite once more. Time passed, and the Mid-Autumn Festival arrived. Once again, Zhu Chengbi and Chang Qing quarreled over food, refusing to speak to each other.
While the tension lingered, Zhao Heng suddenly appeared, inviting Zhu Chengbi to a Mid-Autumn feast. He brought along luxurious, glowing white silk, which immediately caught Zhu Chengbi’s attention. Delighted by the fine fabric, she agreed to join Zhao Heng for moon-viewing, completely ignoring Chang Qing’s objections.
