At dawn, Master Yang was nowhere to be found in the inn. Everyone started searching, eventually tracing their way to the restaurant's storage room. With caution, Chang Qing and Tan Yilu, the covert agent, carefully opened the door. A foul stench hit them instantly. Inside, they found Master Yang barely alive, gasping for breath. Though still clinging to life, Master Yang’s condition was dire.

Tan Yilu seemed drawn to the atmosphere in the room, as if he saw Zhao Heng asking him whether he had obtained what he desired. His face betrayed a mix of emotions. Zhu Chengbi closely observed Tan Yilu's reaction, trying to discern his true intentions in coming to this place. Just as it seemed the enigmatic agent might get entangled in the events, Chang Qing pulled him outside. The moment Tan Yilu crossed the threshold, his senses returned.

As the door closed, Master Yang succumbed to his injuries and died. With two deaths now—first the Taoist and now Master Yang—everyone was terrified, haunted by the events they had witnessed. Discussions turned to how they could escape. Zhu Chengbi, however, urged everyone to remain calm. She explained that this demon beast was clearly intelligent and that anyone harboring guilt in their hearts would be irresistibly drawn to it, leading to their demise. Liu Zhongxian’s wife broke down in tears.

She had seen her husband willingly enter Ji Hairu’s room the previous night, confirming her fears that her deep affection had been misplaced. This betrayal brought back memories of the three-year-old child she had abandoned long ago. When Liu Zhongxian began courting her, she had seen him as someone she could rely on. Desperate to hide her past, she left her sick child to die without even saying a proper goodbye.

Consumed by guilt over this act, she soon became the demon beast’s next victim. The demon beast’s power was growing stronger, and Chang Qing’s pen, once a useful tool, had lost its effectiveness. The group brainstormed ways to counter the demon. They understood the beast’s methods and decided to set a trap, using ropes to bind it when it appeared again. To lure the beast out, they needed bait. All eyes turned to Mr.

Liu, but he cowered in a corner, utterly useless. In a crucial moment, Chang Qing volunteered to be the bait. Zhu Chengbi immediately objected, pointing out his frail health and lack of physical strength. He wasn’t fit to face the demon. Zhu Chengbi urged him not to act recklessly, offering instead to prepare a meal for everyone to replenish their energy after the exhausting ordeal. Zhu Chengbi, skilled in cooking, quickly whipped up a meal and invited everyone to eat.

Tan Yilu had only eaten a few bites when he felt an excruciating headache. Visions of his past flooded his mind—he saw himself being dragged to the execution ground, about to be beheaded. Then Zhao Heng arrived and saved him. From that moment, Tan Yilu donned a mask and willingly became Zhao Heng’s covert agent, his An Yi. This time, his mission was to kill the demon beast and obtain its essence as medicine for Zhao Heng's treatment.

Suddenly, a pink poisonous mist rose into the air, throwing everyone into panic. Each person suffered severe headaches. Through the haze, Chang Qing saw Zhu Chengbi injured, blood staining her chest. She looked at him helplessly, calling his name. Terrified for Zhu Chengbi’s safety and blaming himself for her condition, Chang Qing was overwhelmed with guilt. The demon beast seized this opportunity to drain his spirit, forcing him to confess the secrets buried deep in his heart.

Zhu Chengbi, witnessing Chang Qing’s torment, tried desperately to bring him back to his senses. A sharp slap jolted him out of his daze. Regaining clarity, Chang Qing embraced Zhu Chengbi tightly, no longer consumed by madness. Meanwhile, Liu Zhongxian saw Ji Hairong’s spirit appear before him. Trembling with fear, he insisted that he hadn’t killed her. Years ago, he had been captivated by the sisters' talent, falling for Ji Hairu at first sight.

But with Ji Hairong’s presence, he feared he would always come second to her. Driven by jealousy, he devised a sinister plan. He deceived Ji Hairu, claiming he wanted to elope with her sister. Unable to bear what she saw as her sister’s betrayal, Ji Hairu pushed Ji Hairong into the sea.
