The Legend of Taotie Episode 39 Recap
> The Legend of Taotie Recap
Zhu Chengbi returned to Tianxiang Tower, lost and despondent, speculating that Chang Qing would never forgive her. At that moment, Bai Ze arrogantly arrived at Tianxiang Tower. Zhu Chengbi, upon seeing him, was filled with rage and was about to engage him in combat. However, Bai Ze had come prepared this time. He took out a magical artifact he had crafted and completely bound Zhu Chengbi. Zhu Chengbi realized that the creatures binding her were demon beasts she had once saved.
It turned out that all the demon beasts she had encountered over the years had been orchestrated by Bai Ze. His goal was to gather the power of these beasts to break the seal Lian Deng had placed on her. Bai Ze claimed that human sins like greed, anger, and delusion, as well as arrogance and doubt, were the root causes of suffering. Taking advantage of Zhu Chengbi's weakest moment, Bai Ze poisoned her with a venomous curse.
Soon, the poison would take effect, causing her to die in unbearable agony. Meanwhile, Chang Qing burned paper offerings at his sister’s grave. Cui Yan and Ying Tao overheard him claim that Zhu Chengbi had killed Xiaoli. They were deeply puzzled—since Xiaoli’s arrival at Tianxiang Tower, Zhu Chengbi had treated her with care and even personally cooked delicious meals for her.
Even if Xiaoli had committed serious mistakes, Zhu Chengbi would have spared her life out of consideration for Chang Qing. How could she possibly kill her? Chang Qing began to recall various details from the past. Zhu Chengbi had always said that the blade she carried was incredibly sharp but was only meant for cooking and could never take a life. Moreover, when he held his gravely injured sister, Zhu Chengbi’s expression was one of deep sorrow.
Clearly, she had no motive for murder. Zhu Chengbi, weakened by Bai Ze's poison, began to lose her clarity of mind. Her thoughts were plagued by violent images and visions of Xiaoli, bleeding endlessly and asking her why. Outside Tianxiang Tower, the people of Wuxia were once again living in despair. Zhu Chengbi felt profound sadness, not only physically but also emotionally and mentally.
Realizing the truth, Chang Qing immediately returned to Tianxiang Tower with Cui Yan and Ying Tao, but they could not find any trace of Zhu Chengbi. Desperate, Zhu Chengbi called out for them, but they could not hear her. Chang Qing went to her room and caught a familiar scent. He sensed that Zhu Chengbi hadn’t left, but he couldn’t see her.
With no other option, he went to Bai Ze to ask if there was a way to defeat Zhu Chengbi. Bai Ze admitted that Zhu Chengbi had been cursed by his five-poison seal. Her life was now on a countdown, and with every passing moment, she would experience the amplified suffering of the human world. Living had become an unbearable burden for her.
Yet if she stepped outside Tianxiang Tower, she would die even faster because the worries and sorrows of the outside world would flood into her mind mercilessly. Chang Qing, desperate to save Zhu Chengbi, asked Bai Ze for a cure. Bai Ze mentioned a herb called Xianxing Grass that could detoxify her. Determined to find it, Chang Qing began devising a way to leave. Sensing Chang Qing’s intentions, Bai Ze urged him to return quickly.
Taking advantage of a brief moment of rest, Chang Qing sent a message using a Xuanceng bee, informing Zhu Chengbi about Xianxing Grass. Receiving the message at Tianxiang Tower, Zhu Chengbi, despite her frail state, dragged herself downstairs. Though she knew leaving Tianxiang Tower could mean her death, she realized there was no one else to help her. Summoning her strong willpower, Zhu Chengbi ran out. Traveling through harsh conditions, Zhu Chengbi endured excruciating pain with every step.
Yet her determination paid off when she finally discovered Xianxing Grass in an isolated clearing. The grass appeared to be a withered leaf, but under Zhu Chengbi’s care, it immediately came to life. Excited, she tried to pull it out, but her efforts were futile. It seemed as though her reality and the physical world were misaligned—she could see the grass but not touch it.
Collapsing beside the Xianxing Grass, Zhu Chengbi wept in despair, believing she would never see Chang Qing again. She even sent a final blessing to him through the wind, bidding him farewell. Back at Bai Ze’s side, Chang Qing felt a sharp pain in his chest, sensing Zhu Chengbi’s suffering. His heart was in turmoil, and he silently urged Zhu Chengbi to hold on and persevere. It was as if Zhu Chengbi heard Chang Qing’s voice.
Determined to see her beloved again, she gathered all her strength, abandoning all desires, including greed, anger, and attachment. To her surprise, this allowed her to finally grasp the Xianxing Grass.
