Liu Yan came to know that Mu Zhuohua had been avoiding him because she had developed feelings for him. Mu Zhuohua denied it, but she admitted that she was afraid of becoming too outstanding as that might lead her to fall in love with him. Hearing this, Liu Yan turned Mu Zhuohua to face him and asked why her face had turned red. Mu Zhuohua, unsure how to respond, quickly fled the scene. Mu Zhuohua's father, Mu Rong, was discussing the men that Mu Zhuohua had brought back with his wives. They joked that she hadn't brought back just one man and her skills were evident. Some of them even teased her, which angered Mu Rong, who ordered them to leave.

The nineteen wives of Mu Rong were curious about the men Mu Zhuohua had brought back and approached her home. They saw Zhi Jian and Zhi Mo at the entrance and didn't find them attractive. They also expressed less than favorable opinions about Mu Zhuohua. When they were about to enter to see Liu Yan, Zhi Mo yelled at them, scaring them away. Liu Yan overheard their comments from his room and found them amusing. He felt their observations weren't entirely baseless. Liu Yan stayed at Mu Zhuohua's house, and they enjoyed happy days together. He painted a kite for her, and Mu Zhuohua thought the woman he drew on the kite was as beautiful as herself. Liu Yan teased her for inflating his ego.

Seeing Mu Zhuohua and Liu Yan flying kites together, Mu Rong rushed over. He advised Mu Zhuohua not to spoil a man and reminded Liu Yan that as the man behind Mu Zhuohua, he should support her instead of letting her indulge in kite-flying. During their conversation, Mu Rong inadvertently mentioned Mu Zhuohua's mother, which saddened her. Liu Yan intervened and took Mu Zhuohua away. Mu Rong thought Liu Yan was just a young dandy and not worthy of his daughter. Mu Zhuohua informed Liu Yan that her recovery was nearly complete, and they were planning to leave. However, before departing, she wanted to retrieve her mother's ashes.

Mu Rong refused her request, stating that her mother had already enjoyed wealth and glory in life and didn't need an extravagant funeral. Mu Zhuohua was incensed by his response and was about to say something when Mu Rong raised his hand to strike her. Fortunately, Liu Yan arrived in time to prevent it. Upon seeing Liu Yan, Mu Zhuohua exclaimed, "Your Highness." Confused, Mu Rong asked who this "Your Highness" was. Mu Zhuohua asked him how many lords there were in Dingjing and, realizing his mistake, Mu Rong quickly knelt to greet the prince.

Seeing Mu Rong kneel, the wives of Mu Rong were astonished. Mu Rong explained that the person before them was Lord Ding. Zhou informed a few thugs that they must use Princess Rou Jia as bait to lure Xue Xiaotang out before Liu Yan found him. Holding her mother's ashes, Mu Zhuohua wondered if her mother regretted marrying into the Mu family. Liu Yan comforted her, assuring her that her mother had her. Zhi Jian reported a riot among the refugees, and Princess Rou Jia had gone missing. They rushed to find her. Meanwhile, Liu Chen and Shen Jinghong also got wind of the situation. Just as they were about to confront Princess Rou Jia, Xue Xiaotang appeared. He saved the princess but fell off a cliff himself. Seeing Xue Xiaotang die before her, Princess Rou Jia fainted from the shock. Shen Jinghong stayed by her side to care for her.

When Princess Rou Jia woke up, her first words were about Xue Xiaotang. This left Shen Jinghong, who had been by her side day and night, feeling a bit disheartened. The refugees outside were rejoicing as the relief grain from the court had arrived, ending their hunger. Mu Rong's mother learned that her son had been arrested. In her anger, she vented on Mu Zhuohua's younger sister, physically abusing her. Mu Zhuohua arrived in time to save her. Due to her sister's ordeal, she blamed everything on Mu Zhuohua. Mu Zhuohua intended to visit her teacher, Mr. Shang, and Liu Yan wanted to accompany her. Startled, she quickly said she didn't want to go anymore. Unable to resist Liu Yan, they visited Mr. Shang together.
