Mu Lao Ba was very grateful to Mu Zhuohua for everything she had done. Mu Zhuohua felt that it wasn't her credit; she should thank herself for living for her own sake. Mu Lao Ba took out a handkerchief with a plum blossom pattern and gave it to Mu Zhuohua. She told Mu Zhuohua that it was returning to its rightful owner. Mu Zhuohua looked at the plum blossom on the handkerchief and realized it was her mother's. She was very happy and held the handkerchief to her chest. Zhi Mo informed Mu Zhuohua that Zhuang Wenfeng and Zhuang Zixian had died, having committed suicide out of fear of punishment. Liu Chen found this suspicious and invited Shen Jinghong to drink together, expressing his dissatisfaction with the outcome.

Mu Zhuohua also told Liu Yan that the deaths of Zhuang Wenfeng and Zhuang Zixian were definitely not suicides, but their deaths were not unjust. While they were talking, a petal fell onto Mu Zhuohua's neck. Liu Yan stood up and helped her remove it. Liu Yan sent people to investigate Zhuang Wenfeng's situation in Jiangnan, as he, a mere county magistrate, dared to wield so much power. Mu Zhuohua put on her new official uniform and felt very happy looking at herself in the mirror. At her new workplace, Mu Zhuohua met Lord Ding. He told her that the Ministry of Revenue was the best department, and they needed a good temper to do good deeds. Lord Ding escorted Mu Zhuohua to her seat, and Fang Guanzheng came to apologize to her.

He felt that Mu Zhuohua's verbal sparring against Beiliang, investigating corrupt officials, was due to his narrow-mindedness. Mu Zhuohua didn't think an apology was necessary; it was just a difference of opinions. The Empress Dowager learned about Mu Zhuohua's plea for Liu Yan when she was accused, realizing that what was once just a performance for them had turned into genuine affection. The Empress Dowager decided that she wouldn't take action against Liu Yan unless he intervened against Liu Hao. But if she saw Liu Yan prospering and being successful everywhere, she couldn't just sit back and watch. Mu Zhuohua received an invitation from Princess Rou Jia to attend the Unity Festival, where young men and women exchanged gifts as a tradition.

Guo Juli didn't know what the Unity Festival was, so Mu Zhuohua explained that it was a time when young people exchanged gifts. Guo Juli suggested that Mu Zhuohua could give Liu Yan a gift, given that he had saved her. Mu Zhuohua wondered why she should give him a gift, but Guo Juli pointed out that he had saved her. When Shen Jinghong was about to find Princess Rou Jia, he saw her caressing a portrait of Xue Xiaotang with great care. Shen Jinghong turned to leave but accidentally cut his hand on a tree branch. Despite the injury, he returned home and drank alone. The emotional pain was far worse than the physical wound.

Mu Zhuohua went to the streets to find a flute to give to Liu Yan. Guo Juli found out from Zhi Mo that Liu Yan liked playing the flute. Mu Zhuohua and Guo Juli stood in front of a shop selling flutes. Sun Yunyun walked by them, and Guo Juli noticed a pleasant fragrance on her, presumably from expensive spices. When they entered the shop, Sun Yunyun joined them. Interestingly, both Mu Zhuohua and Sun Yunyun liked the same flute. Sun Yunyun offered a high price, but the shopkeeper refused to sell, even for ten thousand coins, believing she came from a prestigious family. The shopkeeper then told Mu Zhuohua that she could exchange something if she couldn't pay, and Mu Zhuohua realized her talent was her most valuable asset. The shopkeeper recognized Mu Zhuohua's identity and asked her to write a poem.

At the Unity Festival, many women started gossiping when they saw Mu Zhuohua. The Empress Dowager appeared with Princess Rou Jia, Liu Chen, and Liu Yan. Seeing the Empress Dowager, Mu Zhuohua felt fear again. Liu Chen greeted Mu Zhuohua, but she pretended not to see him. Liu Chen was puzzled by Mu Zhuohua's behavior, and Liu Yan explained that if he acknowledged her, he would become unpopular among the women. As the legitimate granddaughter of the Sun family, Sun Yunyun received attention from the Empress Dowager. She brought a flute named "Lingxi" to give to Liu Yan, but he declined, stating that he doesn't accept gifts. Mu Zhuohua gave Liu Yan the flute "Du You" as a gift, and he happily accepted it.
