Liu Yu and the Third Prince saw Liu Yan approaching. Liu Yu asked if he had come to pass judgment on him. Liu Yan told him that he hadn't sent him to the dungeons yet because he didn't want some people to resort to private punishment. He told the Second Prince, Liu Yu, that he knew deep down that Liu Ju had never favored him, and he was just holding onto some resentment. The Second Prince asked him why, if Liu Ju favored Liu Chen, he hadn't been crowned as the heir yet. Liu Yan explained that it was because the late emperor wanted to test and refine Liu Chen's character. Liu Yan felt that he, as the uncle, had not done well enough, leading to disharmony among the three princes. He advised the Second and Third Princes to return to their respective fiefdoms and live their lives peacefully.

After saying this, Liu Yan collapsed, and Zhi Jian and Zhi Mo quickly helped him up. Zhao, the palace physician, diagnosed Liu Yan and informed him that his condition had reached a point of no return. Zhi Jian couldn't believe it and asked if Zhao had made a mistake, but Zhao himself wished he had. Mu Zhuohua happened to come looking for Liu Yan, and Zhi Jian thought her medical skills were excellent, so he suggested she take a look at Liu Yan. Liu Yan stopped them and insisted that Mu Zhuohua should not be informed of this matter. Mu Zhuohua looked at Liu Yan with worry, but he pretended to be fine and urged her to leave because he had to attend the morning court session the next day. It would be great if she could accompany Liu Yan for the rest of his journey. Liu Yan believed that hating someone was better than missing them. Zhi Jian told him that Mu Zhuohua was waiting for him in the study, and she had come several times, only to miss him each time. Liu Yan took one last look at the sleeping Mu Zhuohua and left. Zhi Mo brought many delicious dishes to Guo Juli, but she didn't know that Zhi Mo intended to leave with the prince. Mu Zhuohua hadn't seen Liu Yan attend the morning court for several days. When she left the court, she overheard courtiers discussing the Second Prince's decision to tour the neighboring states. When she returned home, Guo Juli told her that there was a letter in the courtyard. She found a farewell letter from Liu Yan and walked through every corner of the courtyard, reminiscing about her time with Liu Yan. Zhi Jian, watching Liu Yan in this state, felt that it would be better to bring Mu Zhuohua over. Liu Yan felt that he was already a withered tree and didn't want to burden Mu Zhuohua further.
