Mu Zhuohua asked Zhi Jian if he realized that his impulsive actions would only cause Zhi Mo to lose her only family. Zhi Jian believed he already knew who his enemy was and couldn't wait any longer. Mu Zhuohua told him that in Liu Yan's heart, their relationship was more important than seeking revenge. She reminded him that it was easy for one person to die, but living was much more challenging. Zhi Jian remembered when Zhi Mo celebrated his birthday and he had been angry, thinking there was no point in celebrating when their parents were gone. Zhi Mo had told him that even if she were gone someday, he should still celebrate his birthday. Zhi Jian approached Guo Juli and asked her to take care of Zhi Mo while he looked after her. He couldn't help but feel guilty, thinking he was making his younger brother bleed for him.

When Shen Jinghong heard that Princess Rou Jia had been assassinated, he rushed to visit her. Princess Rou Jia already knew that someone from Liu Yan's side, Zhi Jian, was suspected of the assassination. However, she felt that without evidence, nothing could be done to her. She believed that since Liu Yan already suspected her, they couldn't afford to wait idly. They needed to take proactive action. Princess Rou Jia told Shen Jinghong that the close relationship between Liu Chen and Liu Yan was highly disadvantageous for them, so she instructed Shen Jinghong to find a suitable opportunity to sow discord between them. The Empress Dowager, feeling that she had no place left in the world, chose to end her life.

Liu Yan advised Princess Rou Jia to take care of her health, as it had been the Empress Dowager's last concern. Shen Jinghong began spreading rumors among the common people that Liu Yan was planning to leave Dingjing. Liu Yan realized that Shen Jinghong had indeed been manipulated by Princess Rou Jia. One was the so-called "Goddess" Princess Rou Jia, and the other was a respected scholar from a humble background. Their partnership seemed perfect, and they were trying to force Liu Yan out of Dingjing. Shen Jinghong, in front of Liu Chen, mentioned that Liu Yan had been staying in the capital for too long, implying he might be meddling in politics. Liu Chen told them that these allegations had been made since the late Emperor's time, and they had heard enough of them. He believed in Liu Yan's character and appointed him as the King of Policy, allowing him to sit in front of the court to discuss policies. Upon hearing this news, Princess Rou Jia congratulated Liu Yan, and he humbly remarked that he had benefited from adversity.

Liu Yan shared some of Princess Rou Jia's childhood stories, hoping to awaken her conscience. He told her that her late father's greatest wish was for them to live in harmony as a family. Princess Rou Jia couldn't hold back anymore and asked Liu Yan why he didn't return to Fengdi. Liu Yan explained that the time was not right yet. Mu Zhuohua asked Shen Jinghong if he remembered his initial aspirations when he first started serving in the government. Shen Jinghong replied that he remembered and wished for a peaceful and prosperous country. Mu Zhuohua hoped that he wouldn't forget the words he had just spoken. Shen Jinghong asked why she mentioned it, but Mu Zhuohua remained silent and left. Mu Zhuohua and Liu Yan found evidence of Sun Ru colluding with Zhuang Wenfeng and reported Sun Ru to the court. Liu Yan believed that Sun Ru was being falsely accused. However, Shen Jinghong disagreed with Liu Yan's viewpoint and, during a court session, spoke firmly about the need for a thorough investigation. He also suggested abolishing the system that favored prominent families. After the court session, Sun Yunyun confronted her father, Sun Ru, about his involvement with Zhuang Wenfeng. Sun Ru became furious and ordered her to stay out of it.
