Princess Rou Jia's maternal grandmother came to visit her and noticed that Shen Jinghong had visited her late at night. She felt that there was something special between the two of them. However, Princess Rou Jia told her that Shen Jinghong was just a teacher and student whom she had helped out of poverty. The maternal grandmother advised her to cherish the people around her, and Princess Rou Jia assured her that she understood. She then asked about the "Zhuxie Sword," which immediately made the maternal grandmother alert. She believed that Princess Rou Jia, being clever, should know what to ask and what not to.

Shen Jinghong approached Sun Yunqian, hoping for his assistance. While Sun Yunqian wanted to help, he couldn't go against his father's wishes. Shen Jinghong promised to protect the Sun family and asked for Sun Yunqian's support to bring prosperity to the people. Sun Yunqian expressed his desire not to bear the Sun surname, as he, too, was inspired by the idea of serving the people. However, his surname tied him to the family. He then showed Shen Jinghong a ledger, where everything he wanted was documented. He reminded Shen Jinghong not to forget his promise, and Shen Jinghong assured him that he would keep his word. Shen Jinghong presented the Tianxing ledger to Liu Chen in the court, and Liu Chen asked if there was any additional evidence.

Shen Jinghong believed that the Sun family's crimes were numerous, but the ledger he possessed was given to him by Sun Yunqian, hoping for leniency. Liu Chen was ready to spare Sun Yunqian's life, but Lord Zhou accused Sun Ru of treason and collaboration with the Northern Liang. Liu Chen, upon hearing this, became furious and immediately ordered the execution of Sun Ru. All male members of the Sun family were banished, and the female members were reduced to servitude. Shen Jinghong wanted to plead with Liu Chen to reconsider, but Liu Chen's mind was set, and he wouldn't listen to anyone.

Sun Yunqian found Shen Jinghong and beat him up, feeling that he had been used despite considering Shen Jinghong a confidant. He agreed with his father's assessment that he was foolish and called Shen Jinghong "Lord Shen" instead of his former nickname.

Princess Rou Jia approached Lord Zhou and told him that the Sun family had been destroyed, and since the Zhou family was the most prominent in the court, they could now cooperate. Shen Jinghong sought out Princess Rou Jia and inquired about the Sun family's involvement. She pretended not to know anything, so Shen Jinghong asked her directly when she began cooperating with the Zhou family. Princess Rou Jia thought that it was pointless to discuss this at this stage. Shen Jinghong, feeling that he had already promised to protect Sun Yunqian, questioned why he should protect him. Princess Rou Jia pointed out that he had spared Sun Yunqian's life already. Shen Jinghong left in anger, and Ruoer reminded Princess Rou Jia that Shen Jinghong was furious, but she didn't seem to care.

In the court, Mu Zhuohua delivered her speech, advocating for a more just and practical approach, pushing for both rewards and benefits. Liu Yan listened to her speech and nodded in agreement. After Mu Zhuohua finished speaking, the other ministers in the court also expressed their agreement. Mu Zhuohua realized the true intention of her teacher, Mr. Shang, only after reading the second volume of his work. Mr. Shang didn't entirely reject the favoritism system. Liu Yan also informed her that before Mr. Shang's death, two groups of people had approached him, with the second group being the ones who had killed him. After analyzing the situation, Mu Zhuohua believed that Princess Rou Jia was the only one capable of achieving their goals, but Liu Yan warned her not to fall into someone else's trap.

Mu Zhuohua understood that she had narrowly escaped falling into Princess Rou Jia's trap and decided to work with Liu Yan to find a better way for reform. Liu Chen also felt that Mu Zhuohua's arguments were well-founded, and he believed that her proposed method was worth trying. Liu Yan told Liu Chen that the favoritism system had always been a poison within the prominent families and needed to be eradicated. He viewed the current implementation as a transitional phase. Liu Chen agreed with this perspective. As Liu Yan looked at Princess Rou Jia, he felt that Liu Jusheng had entrusted his children to him, and he now had to live up to that trust. Princess Rou Jia rescued Sun Yunyun from a pit and indirectly revealed to her that their family's downfall was because of Mu Zhuohua.

After drinking, Sun Yunqian felt responsible for the family's situation and committed suicide with a sword. Sun Yunyun witnessed this and blamed Mu Zhuohua for everything.
