Liu Yan accompanied Mu Zhuohua back home, and now they no longer had to hide their relationship. They walked openly down the street, holding hands. He finally understood that Mu Zhuohua had been avoiding him these past few days to prepare all of this. Mu Zhuohua gave Liu Yan a purse she had embroidered herself as their engagement gift. Liu Yan was delighted and quickly fastened it to his waist. Mu Zhuohua felt her embroidery skills weren't good enough, but Liu Yan didn't mind. He felt that if he had known Mu Zhuohua would give him a proper status, he wouldn't have admitted to being her concubine. Mu Zhuohua asked if he regretted it, and Liu Yan replied that he had already given himself to her, so what use was there in regretting it.

Liu Yan said that now everyone in the capital knew he belonged to her. Mu Zhuohua thought he was being arrogant, but Liu Yan assured her that she could also be dominant. Holding Mu Zhuohua, Liu Yan led her to the bed. They shared a passionate night together. The next day, Liu Chen summoned Mu Zhuohua to discuss the household accounts. Ma'er reminded Princess Rou Jia that Shen Jinghong hadn't visited for a long time. Princess Rou Jia found Shen Jinghong and tried to seduce him, but he rejected her.

The ministers, considering Princess Rou Jia's advice to support Liu Yan's proposal, believed it would reveal Liu Chen's true nature when he was confronted by Liu Yan's aggressive stance.

The ministers agreed with Liu Yan's proposal, making Liu Chen feel embarrassed in front of them. He accused Liu Yan of being disrespectful in the court and fined him three years' salary. Princess Rou Jia, upon learning of this, commented that Liu Chen had a fiery temper, and Liu Yan had brought this upon himself. Ma'er also told Princess Rou Jia that Ye Muzhen had been frequently meeting with Shen Jinghong, who had been going to the Small Qin Palace to get drunk and returning home late at night. Princess Rou Jia went to the Small Qin Palace and invited many men to join her for drinks, intending to provoke Shen Jinghong. Shen Jinghong left immediately upon seeing this, and Princess Rou Jia lost interest in drinking further.

Ye Muzhen came to find Shen Jinghong with wine from Northern Liang. Shen Jinghong told her that he had once wanted her heart, but she had told him she had no heart. Now, his heart had no room for anyone else. Ye Muzhen told him that Northern Liang women were like that—bold and unapologetic in pursuing what they wanted. She admired Mu Zhuohua and Liu Yan's courage. Ye Muzhen informed Shen Jinghong that Princess Rou Jia was a ruthless woman, and if she were him, she would keep her distance. She also revealed that Princess Rou Jia was responsible for the deaths of thirty thousand soldiers in the Battle of Jumah River. Liu Chen disagreed with allocating military funds to Liu Yan, leading to another argument between them.
