Zhang Ruoxi began taking on more and more advertisements, often accompanied by Xia Mi. During a photoshoot on a grassy field, Xia Mi imagined herself as the female lead and daydreamed a bit. Suddenly, a cat approached her, startling her and causing her to run away. During a break, Zhang Ruoxi rushed to find Xia Mi and explained that the assistant director’s cat had recently undergone a neutering procedure, which made it seem a bit aggressive.
He then confided in her that working with an unfamiliar female lead made it hard for him to relax. To encourage him, Xia Mi gave him a heart-shaped sticker, telling him he would quickly adapt. On their way home, they passed an old neighborhood and stopped at a small shop to buy drinks. Xia Mi noticed Lin Ruolei posting photos of a "vacation in Hainan" on social media and excitedly left a comment.
However, when she looked up, she saw Lin Ruolei right in front of her, throwing out trash. It turned out that the "Hainan trip" was just a façade to maintain an image of wealth. The encounter was incredibly awkward for all of them. Xia Mi remarked that Lin Ruolei must have her reasons for keeping up appearances. At Lin Ruolei’s house, her older brother, Lin Jinlong, was demanding money from their parents.
When they refused, he barged into Lin Ruolei’s room and grabbed her piggy bank. Lin Ruolei cried, accusing her parents of favoritism, but her drunken stepfather scolded her harshly. Her mother hurried to cook a meal for him, leaving both her and Lin Ruolei voiceless in their own home. When summer break ended, Zhang Ruoxi waited downstairs at Xia Mi’s building to walk her to school on the first day.
The two entered the school gate, chatting and laughing, which did not go unnoticed by Fan Yuan and Lin Ruolei, who both felt a pang of unhappiness. Later, Lin Ruolei handed out shell souvenirs, pretending they were from her "Hainan vacation," as gifts to her friends. Xia Mi chose not to expose her, while Zhang Ruoxi, seemingly indifferent, stayed glued to his phone. Xia Mi quickly stepped in to accept the gift on Zhang Ruoxi’s behalf.
Meanwhile, Fan Yuan and Zhao Rui were assigned to a different class. Zhang Ruoxi and Xia Mi ended up as desk mates. Sitting at her new seat, Xia Mi noticed Lin Ruolei’s gloomy expression and grew concerned. Qiao Yun continued as the homeroom teacher and announced that Zhang Ruoxi and Tian Jiarong would be the new class monitors, with Xiao Junyi and Tian Xiaoyu retaining their previous positions.
At lunchtime, Xia Mi invited Lin Ruolei to eat together, but Lin Ruolei claimed she had a cold and wasn’t hungry. Instead, she went alone to the playground. Seeing her unhappiness, Xia Mi followed her and comforted her, suggesting she try out for the school’s broadcasting station, which was recruiting new members. During lunch, Fan Yuan came by to deliver notes to Xia Mi.
Seeing she wasn’t in the classroom, Zhang Ruoxi offered to pass them on, but Fan Yuan said there was still a chapter left to finish and promised to give them to her directly later. The next day, Zhang Ruoxi gave his math notes to Xia Mi. Seeing this, Lin Ruolei also came over to borrow the notes. Xia Mi, not wanting to keep them to herself, lent them to Lin Ruolei first.
Fan Yuan then arrived from Class 6 to deliver another set of notes to Xia Mi and even explained important points in detail. Taking advantage of the moment, Lin Ruolei asked Zhang Ruoxi to help her with some problems, and although he couldn’t refuse, his eyes stayed on Xia Mi the entire time. The school was preparing for an upcoming social dance party, and Teacher Yang was in charge of assigning dance partners.
When Lin Ruolei handed in her English assignment, she volunteered to help with the groupings and made sure to pair herself with Zhang Ruoxi. During the dance class, Teacher Yang instructed everyone to exchange partners freely after a few moments. Zhang Ruoxi immediately pulled Xia Mi to his side, leaving Lin Ruolei to pair with Fan Yuan. When the partners changed again, Zhang Ruoxi twirled his female partner and deliberately pulled Xia Mi back to his side.
Meanwhile, Xie Yuhan took the opportunity to move to Fan Yuan’s side, leaving Lin Ruolei standing alone. When Zhao Rui tried to partner with Lin Ruolei, she pretended to twist her ankle and fall. However, Zhang Ruoxi didn’t even glance in her direction. After class, Xia Mi treated Lin Ruolei to ice cream, and Lin Ruolei asked Xia Mi to help arrange a dance practice session with Zhang Ruoxi.
Xia Mi found Zhang Ruoxi in the reading room and conveyed Lin Ruolei’s request. Seeing Lin Ruolei peeking in through the door, Zhang Ruoxi flatly refused. Later, Xia Mi received a payment for one of her submissions and, on her way upstairs, ran into Fan Yuan. She shared the good news with him and mentioned how she wasn’t used to being in a different class from him.
