Chu Kong and Xiangyun celebrated their birthdays and stargazed at the Morning Star Pavilion. Xiangyun made a wish to always be with Chu Kong. As a result, Jin Luo regained her human form.

Xiangyun and Chu Kong discovered that King Li had gone missing for no apparent reason. Worried about his safety, Xiangyun found the Book of Life left behind by King Li and decided to search for clues within it. However, Chu Kong was concerned about Xiangyun's well-being and disagreed. Despite Chu Kong's objections, Xiangyun was still worried about King Li's safety and decided to descend to the mortal realm. Bound by their connection, Chu Kong followed her.

This time, their genders were swapped. Xiangyun became a male general, while Chu Kong became a princess. They discovered that the Emperor and the Empress Dowager each possessed a half of the Jade Pendants of Chasing Waves Nine Peaks. When combined, these pendants could lead them to the clues left by King Li. However, the Emperor disliked the Empress Dowager's influence in politics, and their longstanding grievances escalated. With Xiangyun as Princess and Chu Kong as General, they balanced each other out under the orders of the Emperor and the Empress Dowager.

Chu Kong followed the trail to discover that Princess's miscarriage was orchestrated by Xinran, a spy from a hostile country. They decided to use strategy against her.
