Before the end, Chu Kong and Xiangyun, having learned the whole truth, decided to temporarily avoid the situation as Canghai's power still existed in the boundless void. Haoxuan manipulated Xiuming's hatred towards Chu Kong and had Xiuming attempt to assassinate him. However, Chu Kong didn't actually die. He chose to go to the boundless void to reclaim Canghai's power from there. Chu Kong knew that Haoxuan had long suspected their identities, so he and Xiuming staged a fake death. Chu Kong went alone to the enigmatic forest in the demon realm.

Xiangyun never truly believed that Chu Kong had died. She saw through the ruse of the fake death orchestrated by Chu Kong and Xiuming. Unable to bear it, Xiuming eventually allowed Xiangyun to go in search of Chu Kong. Using the connection from the "牵丝引" spell, Xiangyun sensed Chu Kong's presence in the enigmatic forest. There, Chu Kong defeated the former demon king and, according to the forest's rules, became the new ruler of the enigmatic forest.
