Fangs of Fortune Episode 23 Recap
> Fangs of Fortune Recap
Wen Xiao speculated that Li Lun hadn’t actually died but had instead possessed Zhuo Yichen, which would explain why Ao Yin was allowed to escape. The group remembered how Li Lun, when burned by the Unfading Wood, had claimed he was immortal. Likely, it was then that Li Lun had taken control of Zhuo Yichen’s body. With this in mind, Wen Xiao and the others hurried to Peach Blossom Residence.
Zhuo Yichen had already broken through the barrier and entered Zhao Yuanzhou’s courtyard, placing the two jars of wine from Ying Lei on the table. Zhao Yuanzhou immediately sensed Li Lun’s presence and began to fight him. When Wen Xiao’s group arrived, they saw the two forces evenly matched and prepared to intervene. Pei Sijing stopped them, saying their priority should be to restore the Bai Ze Amulet to help Zhao Yuanzhou.
Wen Xiao took out the Yaoshui Sacred Wood, which rose into the air and slowly transformed into the Bai Ze Amulet. Just then, Ao Yin appeared and snatched the amulet mid-air. Pei Sijing and Ying Lei fought to retrieve it, but Ao Yin targeted Bai Jiu, pushing him far away. Suddenly, Ao Yin switched the appearances of Pei Sijing and Ying Lei, confusing the Demon-Hunting Team.
Luckily, Ying Lei managed to strike Ao Yin with his machete, revealing Ao Yin’s true form. In the chaos, the Bai Ze Amulet fell near Bai Jiu. He quickly picked it up and stood beside Ao Yin, making everyone realize that Bai Jiu had also been possessed by Li Lun. Li Lun explained that back in the Demon-Hunting Bureau illusion, he had implanted his inner core into Bai Jiu’s body, preparing to possess him at any time.
Just as he was boasting about his plan, Wen Xiao played a tune, causing the Bai Ze Amulet to break free from Bai Jiu’s hand. Wen Xiao explained that during the three hundred years she’d been trapped in the sundial, she played that same tune daily, creating a strong bond with the Bai Ze Amulet. Ying Lei urged Wen Xiao to go save Zhao Yuanzhou while he stayed behind to fend off Li Lun.
After Wen Xiao left, Ying Lei was severely injured, and Pei Sijing narrowly avoided a strike. Pei Siheng suddenly appeared to protect her. Wen Xiao saw that Zhuo Yichen had already been injured by Zhao Yuanzhou and informed him that Bai Jiu had been possessed. She asked Zhuo Yichen to help Bai Jiu while she stayed to revive Zhao Yuanzhou. Seeing that Wen Xiao had restored the Bai Ze Amulet, Zhuo Yichen left with relief.
Pei Siheng noticed the Hunter’s Shadow Bow was missing and recalled that Ao Yin had snatched it during his fight with Pei Sijing. Anxious to recover it, he gave chase. Meanwhile, Zhuo Yichen finally realized Li Lun’s scheme and confronted him with the Yunguang Sword. Wen Xiao sounded the Bai Ze Amulet, gradually dispelling Zhao Yuanzhou’s hostility. However, Zhao Yuanzhou, upon seeing Wen Xiao, felt as if he were still dreaming and not entirely grounded in reality.
Wen Xiao gave him a playful knock on the head, bringing him back to his senses. Zhao Yuanzhou noticed a significant change in Wen Xiao, though he couldn’t pinpoint exactly what was different. Wen Xiao chose not to tell him about the loneliness she endured while spending three hundred years at the Kunlun Gate, accompanying the Sacred Tree’s growth. For her, as long as Zhao Yuanzhou could recover, it was all worth it.
Pei Siheng retrieved the Hunter’s Shadow Bow and returned it to Pei Sijing, remarking that he found it ironic to be fighting so desperately over something he’d despised since childhood. Zhuo Yichen, focused on defeating Li Lun, was instead overpowered by him, with Li Lun shattering the Yunguang Sword and weakening Zhuo Yichen, leaving him at Li Lun’s mercy. Bai Jiu’s consciousness, trapped inside a wooden box, could do nothing despite his desperate shouts.
Li Lun taunted that it wouldn’t be long before Bai Jiu’s consciousness faded away entirely. Remembering Bai Jiu’s reliance on him, Zhuo Yichen slashed his own palm to release Bingyi Clan blood to strengthen the Yunguang Sword, but it only slightly wounded Li Lun, who then struck Zhuo Yichen heavily, nearly killing him. Zhao Yuanzhou and Wen Xiao arrived at Li Lun’s side. Li Lun expressed admiration for Zhao Yuanzhou’s resilience in continually escaping control.
Zhao Yuanzhou warned him about Wen Zongyu’s ruthlessness, even using his own disciple. But Li Lun retorted that it was mutually beneficial—he needed a body, and Wen Zongyu wanted to restore Chongwu Camp’s former glory and power, which Li Lun was fully aware of. Zhao Yuanzhou further revealed that Li Lun, too, was just a pawn in Wen Zongyu’s experiment with demonized humans. Li Lun, unwilling to believe it, was urged by Zhao Yuanzhou to visit the dungeon and see for himself.
