The pieces carved by Yue Yunxiu were known for their lifelike precision and extraordinary craftsmanship. After disembarking, Yan Zijing personally visited her residence. That day, the Yue household was bustling with visitors—it turned out they were hosting a groom-selection event. Yan Zijing, intrigued, joined the excitement by claiming he had come to propose. Inside the hall, many men stared intently at the woman seated in the center, calmly working on her carving.

This woman had delicate features, smooth skin, and a face like a peach blossom; not only was she stunning, but her skill was also remarkable. Despite the crowd’s distractions, she remained fully focused. Yan Zijing, who had traveled far and met countless people, immediately noticed her belt accessory, and his expression changed.

The string of fish beads was a gift he’d carved himself as a birthday present for his sister years ago, but she had been missing for a long time. Now, seeing someone who resembled her so closely, Yan Zijing was determined not to let this chance slip by. Along with this statue, there were also many completed works based on designs from the paintings. Upon returning, Duan Wu reported to Yan Zijing that Yue Yunxiu had a strong preference for white jade.

Yan Zijing immediately ordered his men to deliver all the white jade from the ship to Yue Yunxiu. During a subsequent visit, Duan Wu discovered an issue with the milk Yue Yunxiu was using to soak her hands. Yue Yunxiu explained that her father had brought her the milk, but after soaking her hands in it for several days, she experienced weakness and pain in her hands.

Although Yue Yunxiu was reluctant to use the milk, she felt pressured by her father. To ensure these items became rare, he devised a cruel plan: if something tragic happened to the Jade Guanyin, her works would immediately increase in worth. Around this time, Zhang Jinran also arrived in Shaozhou and happened to spot Duan Wu near the Yue residence. Reunited, Zhang Jinran shared with her the clues he’d uncovered there.

Seeing the statue of the flying deity had already raised Duan Wu’s suspicions about Yan Zijing’s true identity, and now she learned from Zhang Jinran that the Yan family of Yangzhou had once owned the famous He Pu territory. The Yan family had been a prominent treasure-trading family in Yangzhou, known for their iconic court gifts—the lotus platform with a flying deity statue.

Had it been presented to the imperial court, it would have secured their place as the foremost jewelry merchants in the country. However, during a palace banquet, the national treasure suddenly shattered, and palace attendants discovered all the jewelry pieces were fakes. Just as the emperor prepared to punish the Yan family and investigate, the entire family was wiped out, and the case was left unresolved.

The perceptive Duan Wu pieced everything together and realized that Yan Zijing’s true identity was likely that of the Yan family. The woman he was so willing to give up his fortune to marry must be his long-lost sister.
