The Story of Pearl Girl Episode 15 Recap
> The Story of Pearl Girl Recap
Old Yue and Cui Bagong had a longstanding acquaintance, allowing them to settle temporarily at the Octagonal Tower. Observing the high levels of miasma in Wuling, Duan Wu immediately instructed her subordinates to prepare some herbal repellents and to strengthen the guards. Any suspicious activity was to be reported immediately.
Cao Tou gathered information, learning that the people of Wuling had been impoverished until about half a month ago, when someone suddenly started distributing porridge, somewhat alleviating the hardship for the poor. Old Yue took Yan Zijing to meet Cui Bagong. Meanwhile, Cui Shijiu had already noticed Yan Zijing's caravan’s arrival and felt a secret thrill; she had been worried about finding a chance for revenge, and now the opportunity had come to her.
Cui Shijiu arranged for someone to disguise themselves as Cui Bagong, drawing the curtains around the room to prevent outsiders from seeing Cui Bagong’s true appearance. Yan Zijing stated his purpose, requesting Cui Bagong to help Old Yue repay his jewelry debt. Following Cui Shijiu’s instructions, the impersonator promptly promised that the ten thousand coins would be repaid within the next few days. Then he ordered his men to pour wine for Yan Zijing.
Though Yan Zijing found this strange, he noticed the green tint in his wine, hesitated briefly, but drank it. Kang Ju, observing Yan Zijing’s vomit, discovered that the poison originated from Li Longdao’s group, suggesting that the Cui family had been closely linked with them over the years. The poison severely weakened Yan Zijing, prompting Kang Ju to blame him for taking such a reckless risk.
Yan Zijing, however, had no choice; ever since arriving at the Octagonal Tower, he had sensed something eerie. It was now clear that not only was Li Longdao’s group involved but also another force. Gaining the enemy's trust was the only way to uncover the truth. Yan Zijing instructed Kang Ju to immediately hide the caravan’s jewels, as their adversaries were likely after their valuables and wouldn’t hesitate to poison them to seize them.
When Duan Wu heard Cao Tou’s report that the caravan’s jewels had vanished, her suspicions deepened, and she went to Yan Zijing for answers. Yan Zijing, pale-faced yet calm, hinted at Kang Ju’s efforts to hide the jewels, prompting Duan Wu to discreetly lead the caravan members out of the Octagonal Tower. Duan Wu then asked Old Yue to investigate the situation, but he, being as cunning as an old fox, had no desire to get involved.
Left with no other option, Duan Wu bluffed, claiming he had just been poisoned and could only survive with her antidote. She convinced him to fully comply with her orders if he wanted to stay alive. Reluctantly, Old Yue went to negotiate with Hei Shan, Cui Bagong’s bodyguard. Upon learning that Old Yue knew the location of Yan Zijing’s buried treasure, Cui Shiqi immediately sent people to dig it up.
Although Cui Shijiu had been monitoring Cui Bagong’s medication daily, believing him to be in a state of perpetual coma, in reality, Cui Bagong had long since regained consciousness and instructed his maid to change the prescription. For days, he pretended to be comatose, using this as a strategy.
Upon hearing that Cui Shiqi had excavated Yan Zijing’s buried jewels, he immediately ordered his men to release poisonous gas, knocking out Duan Wu, Kang Ju, and even Cui Shijiu, and then locked them in a prison cell. Duan Wu and Cui Shiqi were now reduced to Cui Bagong’s slaves, confined in a dark, underground passage where they were forced into grueling labor, mining and breaking rocks. Before her imprisonment, Duan Wu had noticed Yan Zijing’s disappearance.
Now locked away, Duan Wu and Kang Ju secretly agreed to pretend to submit for the time being and immediately work to find out where Yan Zijing had been taken.
